UT 3 !!

I dunno...

Playing low gravity at 155% game speed and 55% air control in big bathrooms/livingrooms/kitchens/etc.. and shooting someone's translocator with the enhanced shock rifle as it flies through the air in the original Unreal Tournament, then waiting for them to translocate to that location is pretty epic. Especially when the translocator is smaller than the crosshair you're aiming with because it's so far away.

The big house maps were perhaps my favorite custom maps to play on for some reason. It just felt ridiculous.

if youre still playing ut3 what servers are you playing on?

is it full of foul mouth kids or people interested in having as much fun as possible..

I play on Team_Stealth (=TS=) or (RIIP) servers. Tons of new maps out all the time. The Gdawg maps (not me) are prolific and the originals are still around too.

I play mostly team deathmatch now, deathmatch if no teams available. Never played the campaign.

Mostly a good crowd looking to have fun, rarely are there any offensive type people, and they usually get the hint to not hang around too long lol

I've played Quake, Doom to death, but just can't get too much of UT3.

So I'm weird, what of it lol

Never liked the big room maps, like it more up close and personal buwahahaha

All the games are okay. Since they are so different from one another, you should try all three just to see which one you like the best. Personally, I like UT more than the other two.

Shock Rifle & Enhanced Shock Rifle or the Pulse/Link Gun?

Apparently the game is so good is requires an arrow to the knee to stop you from playing.

NO ARROWS in UT3.. think someone was confused :p

Too bad Cliffy B & co didn't listen to the thousands of posts of feedback during the open beta, maybe the game would have survived more than a couple of months after release.

UT3 was developed by Epic's "B-Team". Bleszinski and Co were too busy developing Gears of War 2 in between sessions of rolling around in MS's money.

LOL, so true.

I miss UT99. I still play it and UT2k4 from time to time on my own. I use the DX10 driver for UT99.

Yep, that would be me :D

official team name is =TS=MaadDaawg :D

oh man, just saw you're DazedandConfused !! You're a really good player Bro :)

Thanks :) You're pretty good too. Honestly I should be good I was practically playing since day 1 , played 2 years quit and just started playing again in January out of curiosity. Really though the best players quit the game, even ones that could own "JesusofUT3". elix1 was an amazing player and being in a DM with him was not fun. Kotex or just Tex from team checksix in UT 2004 played regularly too and that guy was incredible. I actually played against stryfe once one of the top UT 2004 duelers.. he called me a noob and left :D granted I was pretty bad back then.

I really hope epic releases a new Unreal Tournament but it does not look good.. At this rate I give UT 3 1 more year until playing on North American servers will not be feasible. Europe on the other hand still has a strong little community.

The gameplay mechanics were fine. What was not were the murky graphics and shitty server browser. One has been somewhat fixed at least. A bright UT3 with a much better browser and less bugs woud have probably succeded.

The problem with the Unreal community is players of 99 or 2k4 are always partial to their versions of the game and want the new one to be like their respective preferences. What happened mostly is 2k4 players did not appreciate the way movement was in UT3 ie. removal of dodge jump. UT3 was closer to 99 then 2k4. The 99 community is.. well the 99 community, very dedicated and a lot had old PCs at the time (and still do).

If Epic were to make a UT4 (somewhat unlikely) it would have to be dead on to succeed because of the divided fanbase.

I just played the game 3 times and now I'm on this forum letting you guys know that I just played it 3 times. I looked back and broke my neck...

I think the problem with me was I honestly never tried it due to a lot of people telling me Epic consolized UT3 and it wasn't worth it if I enjoyed the first two. So it was my own fault for not trying it.
The dodging thing had no bearing on it since I always turned that function off in the first two anyway. Never liked it and it would happen by accident too many times.

Well really the only consolized part was the server browser and the game/graphics settings. Both were pretty much fixed and UTcomp is available for UT3 now too. As for turning off dodge jumping.. I'm guessing you didn't play competitively or online :p

Oh and another reason the game will never ever take off no matter how cheap it is is the extreme learning curve. I've seen tons of new guys come when they do a steam sale and just quit because they get demolished. The player base is so old now that even a bad experienced player will totally demolish a newbie.

Actually I did play competitively. I also used to run a computer gaming center around the St. Louis area. We had a guy from Europe visit the investors and they stated he was some kind of EU Gamespy champion or something or other. They said he will "test my skills" when he arrives. Needless to say, the matched ended with him in a -2 kills to my 25 before he quit and complained.
I came from a competitive quake community so the dodging just felt out of place and I played better without. It also did not stop me from fragging someone that did use it. The time you are dodging out of the way is a space in time where you can not make another movement, may be miniscule, but it is there, where as not dodging you do not have to worry about it.

So you mean to tell me when I am in the middle of a dodge, I can't shoot?

No, that is not what I am saying. When you are in a middle of a dodge, you can not move back or forward without any control.

My apologies for assuming. However at least in UT3 (never played 2k4 much) if you do not dodge better players will run circles around as it speeds up movement. No matter how good your aim is if a guy is controlling the map and getting all the armor and udamage you will not win.

Yeah, that has been the primary goal of almost all fantasy fps'. Get the armor/extras and correct weapon areas controlled and you have the game. That and good ol fashion skills with kb/m.

I love how a game that had such a general consensus of "sucking" generates a 4 page thread.

I love this game. But I'm also a casual UT player.

Our generation of dm is dying, we're getting older. They need to release at least one more quake and unreal to satisfy this old gamer.

I used to play the original UT 99 way too much. Then I went on to UT2K3 but 2K4 was an absolute blast. I remember them as being like a 6 disc installation. I still have UT3 on steam I just haven't installed it in a few years. Me and my next door neighbor were talking about looking for UT99 or above servers I would love to play again. I feel it's time for a serious re-boot of that franchise.

Still a solid user base of UT players and servers.

I used to play 2k4 way too much for my own good. Sniper freestyle was the most fun i've ever had in any game ever, period, end. And damn was i good at it back then. Makes me wonder if anyone here played that regularly back then, you'd certainly know me (Not by this name) if you did, pm me about it, kinda curious who still lurks from that area.

Yeah that was back in 2009, Plaque.

Pretty sure coming up on 4 years constitutes several, though I'd imagine they will probably wait a little longer than that seeing as how it was 4 years apart when they released 2003.

Yeah, they are probably just working on more GoW and waiting until the next gen consoles come out before they make a new UT.

Not really if you play at 6-10pm maybe but try finding a game any other time. The most I've seen on a server in 3 months is 12 people which is like a miracle and lasts for like a total of 5 minutes. I work nights and from 8am-1pm often all North American servers are empty, ALL of them. Sometimes you'll get the odd noob or some foreigner with a high ping but that's it. I guess if you play greed you'll find more players but personally I hate that shit (titan vehicles.. lame!) And to think I remember a time when I'd have to spectate games and wait for people to drop out to play often 16 player DMs and 20+ TDMs.. not anymore.

There aren't too many people more die hard than me and I'm seriously thinking about going back to playing Starcraft 2. At least I can find a game on my schedule.
