Want some High End Headphones

Was thinking about getting some high end headphones, I listen to a lot of Trance and some Dubstep. Tried on a couple different pairs of Beats by Dr. Dre, and fell in love with the expensive ones, but thought I would ask opinions of you guys and see what your recommendations are.

Beats by Dre are in no way high-end headphones except for the price. After they come back to the market with new headphones there is rumor they are going to try to produce quality headphones since they already dropped Monster as a manufacturer, but that's only conjecture. As it stands right now every single thing they make is complete shit compared to most offerings in their respective price ranges.

If you want something good for EDM type stuff you should look at the Denon D2000/D5000, Beyerdynamic DT 770 and Ultrasone Pro 900 or HFI 780 for full-size cans.

x2 on all this, and if you just want to whet your appetite with something VERY good for the price that also kicks butt with EDM, check out the Audio Technica ATH-M50's. You can get them for $100-150, and they are a VERY good value for that price.

EDIT: post above me linked to review of the same headphones I am suggesting. I have a pair of them and they really are great. They are keeping me satisfied for the time being... ;)

You don't give any price range, high end is a very relative term. To some people anything better than the junk you buy from a $2 shop is high end, to someone else $100 might he high end, to someone else it might be $500 or $1000.

Meh, anything that isn't the Orpheus or priced similarly is mid-fi. ;)

Fair enough, $300-400.

Good god... Orpheus... ffffffuuuuuuuu

Do you already have an amp and/or DAC? If so, which? If not, is that part of the budget?

The M50s are good headphones, but they're overrated. Their price has inflated to around $150 in the past year and as of now it's not the best value for the money. Besides, I don't think they would be satisfactory if the OP is looking for high end stuff.

My recommendation? Either the Denon D2000/D5000 or the AKG K/Q701 - spend the extra money on a decent amp, maybe O2+ODAC? And you should be covered under $400.

This is true, also the M50s are another headphone that has been changed since it's original and somewhat legendary configuration. It's now a much more neutral headphone and the OP looks to be after a basshead can.

AKGs will be pretty bass light so I wouldn't bother with them for EDM stuff.

Would concider buying this over and above the cost of the headphones.

Any issues related to it being USB2.0 feed? Is the processor going to be a quality bottleneck for the price of the headphones I'm buying?

Don't bother with that, I mean it may be OK, but you can get way better stuff. Check out the iBasso line, specifically the D6 and D7. Also the Fiio stuff, and the O2 amp/DAC is very good also.
