as title states my computer has started having a strange issue where it will freeze up and upon reboot i will receive a message asking me to please connect a bootable device. if i go into bios my crucial m4 is not listed. i can get it to boot by either disconnecting the power and sata cables, reconnecting them and then rebooting or by simply waiting a few minutes and then powering on the pc. i havent had a whole lot of time to spend troubleshooting so all i have had time to do so far is run a virus scan and a spyware scan and both came up clean. anyone have any ideas or experienced this issue before?

ive already got a backup. does it sound like an issue with the ssd itself or could it be the mobo? i just switched it to a different sata port with a different sata cable and no restart since, just praying it holds up.

I've had this issue at least once (maybe twice?) with my SF-1200 drive. Exactly how you describe it. A freeze, then the disk gets locked down until a power cycle or the cables are detached.

How often does it happen for you and is it seemingly random or does it occur more often during heavy activity?

its never happened until today. it has happened 5 times so far, last time it happened i switched the sata port and cables and it went about 2 hours without having the issue. ive now updated the firmware so hopefully that will help, so far so good. im going to try a power cycle tomorrow as suggested by the crucial site (20 minutes powered on with no data cable connected, 30s off, then do it again.)

Ahhh, hopefully it was just a firmware issue then. The latest version has a stability fix. Post back tomorrow and let us know.

I have four drives that need firmware updates.

That sounds a lot like the lockup bug on the m4's that was fixed in firmware 0309.
