Had my phone at 100% overnight and decided to see if I had that weird battery drain issue I've been reading about.

Woke up 7 hours later to see 30%. 30%!!!!!!

My cell standby is 50% or so, not like the 75% that's being reported. But this is ridiculous!

Is there any way to find out the cause of this drain overnight? Without even using it?

Do you have WiFi enabled?

I can go from 8am to 7pm and still be at 70% if I don't really use the screen much.

If I go home and turn wireless on, it will drain the remaining 70% in 3-4 hours.

For now, I've just been turning off wireless until I get home and actually need/want to use it (stupid data caps!). I'm hopeful that it will be fixed with a firmware update at some point.

EDIT: A couple threads on XDA Developers mention turning auto synchronization off. You might want to try that too. If that doesn't work, a few people have said a master wipe/reset has appeared to fix it.

My battery lasts over two days with WiFi and auto sync on and mild-moderate use. What apps have you installed?

I thought wifi saved more battery life than cell data?

Only email is synced. No contacts or calendars.
The other app i have is for work, a sandboxed app to sync with my outlook
However i use it all day at work from 8 to 430 and still have like 40%.

Check out the 2nd & 3rd charts. Battery life was actually better over cell data than it was on WiFi. Not a significant amount, but there's a difference.

As far as apps installed, I've done nothing as far as removing anything yet. Upon activation, all my previous apps were downloaded & installed:

Google Reader
Google +
Newegg
IMDB
Hotmail
Amazon
Amazon Kindle
Amazon MP3
Flixter
Chrome

The first time I noticed my battery drain, Chrome was the only app showing as opened in Task Manager.

What app are you using for company email? My company uses good for enterprise, and it murders my battery.

Wifi on my gs2 also murders battery life, but I'm still on gingerbread for the moment. Should get back to ICS soon, we'll see if it improves.

Turn on power having mode. The processor kicks up to 800MHZ each time it syncs for emails iirc.

I use the app juice defender. It turns off mobile data whenever your screen is off.

Wifi does hurt the GS3 battery a lot more than other phones, e.g. galaxy nexus

With wifi off, I get amazing battery life. With 3 hrs of screen time, a fair amount of texting, listening to music, browsing web, etc etc, I usually end the day with about 40% left. I've gone a weekend without charging before, with about 4hrs total screen time.

Well that blows.

I have the 3gb data on AT&T but AT&T doesn't penetrate my into my building very well so i use wifi all day. Why does wifi hit harder than cell data? I though that was always one glaring benefit of wifi.

I cant limit mobile data because it's a work phone. Good doesnt sync very quickly but I need the connection on all the time.

I now have power saving on for CPU and I've always had haptic turned off from the getgo. I don't have the other color and browsing checked though. Still can't believe that the Good app is doing this much damage to the battery life. Something else has to be up cause I'll use my iPhone all day and it doesn't seem that bad

That chart also doesn't compare LTE which uses alot more battery than CDMA/HSPA.

I'm getting great battery life out of LTE and on WIFI.

A few days ago I installed the Amazon App Store to download some prior purchases.. I installed Quick Office Pro and My Coffee Card Pro. My battery drained in about a third of the normal time. I promptly uninstalled Amazon App Store, and I haven't had time to figure out if it was the App Store or one of the two apps installed that was the offender.

Amazon app store runs fine on mine, I don't have either of those other two so I would look at them maybe.

It's gotta be some app I left open when mine drained -- maybe an auto-refresh page in Chrome or something?

I had 4G (Verizon) on from 5:30 am to noon, and WiFi from noon to 11pm on Saturday, and it was still 45% when I went to bed. Sunday was WiFi from 8am-11pm and it was still 60%. But, I made sure all apps were closed and Chrome was parked on a page like reddit that doesn't auto refresh.

I've tried using "Battery Saver" mode on my GS3, but it makes the phone noticeably less smooth in any sort of UI manipulation.

Hopefully they get this "Cell Standby" thing resolved. On my SGS cell standby was never more than a tiny fraction of battery usage...suddenly with the SGS3 it's like 50-75%.

I have no issues with the UI smoothness and running power saver mode. No issues with power drain here.

Power save with cpu limiting seems to help battery life a bit today. There is a slight choppiness but it's probably because I'm sensitive to it. Other than that, I guess its better now.

There isn't a way to shut off 4G LTE and just have it run off 3G anywhere is there?

Get Better Battery Stats...It will tell you everything you need to know about what's killing your wake locks, what's not allowing you to go into deep sleep, etc.

I would not recommend that... I could never switch back to 4g and got a tiny fraction of 3g speeds with it installed. It actually destroyed my sim card and I had to get a new one from the nearest verizon store.

I don't know why you'd buy a LTE phone then run on CDMA but, Destroyed your sim card?
