Today the start of a new build with a super case: the CaseLabs Magnum M8 Labs

Sponsored by...... CaseLabs, Lamptron, Highflow, Coolermaster and EKWB

First my thanks goes out to Jim (CaseLabs) for providing this beautiful case
Received this beautiful gift on my birthday

DSC06851.jpg

DSC06850.jpg

Offcourse unwrapping it right away

DSC06852.jpg

DSC06855.jpg

DSC06854.jpg

Once out of the box

DSC06856.jpg

DSC06858.jpg

DSC06872.jpg

DSC06873.jpg

DSC06874.jpg

One of the finest cases I've ever seen, quality is superb

DSC06867.jpg

DSC06868.jpg

DSC06870.jpg

And with an XL window on the right side

DSC06876.jpg

DSC06877.jpg

And also on the left side

DSC06878.jpg

After admiring the outside for some time, the inside

DSC06859.jpg

With 3 HDD cages

DSC06864.jpg

Attached with screws and rubbers

DSC06961.jpg

Pins to hold everything in place

DSC06964.jpg

With two vertical accessory mounts

DSC06860.jpg

DSC06861.jpg

DSC06862.jpg

Once everything is removed there is a lot of space for a nice WC setup

DSC06900.jpg

DSC06901.jpg

Other side also perfect quality

DSC06879.jpg

Place at the bottom for a 360 radiator

DSC06881.jpg

Passages for tubes and / or wiring

DSC06882.jpg

DSC06890.jpg

8 Slots is enough

DSC06885.jpg

And enough space for various purposes

DSC06884.jpg

Also with a Horizontal Accessory Mount

DSC06887.jpg

And included 2x Lamptron switches which also perfectly finished

DSC06883.jpg

Already sleeved

DSC06960.jpg

The windows also very nice and simple mounted

DSC06905.jpg

Nothing pasted or with bent strips, but with nuts

DSC06907.jpg

So always easy to exchange if necessary. After damage or any other acrylic color replacing. Clamping mechanism is also well thought

DSC06908.jpg

DSC06912.jpg

DSC06910.jpg

This is also applied to the front and top panel, which is also removable

DSC06914.jpg

DSC06897.jpg

Space for 3x 120mm fans

DSC06896.jpg

But that's not all. There was another package

DSC06917.jpg

DSC06847.jpg

Quickly unwrapping it again

DSC06918.jpg

And it is the extended pedestal, for all your radiators and other stuff

DSC06920.jpg

DSC06924.jpg

DSC06920.jpg

At the back holes for 2x 140mm fan

DSC06926.jpg

DSC06931.jpg

So much space inside, but I choose for a bracket for 2x 360 radiator

DSC06928.jpg

The front also has a removable panel. Always nice to mod

DSC06929.jpg

So the extended pedastal. Lots of extra space, a real nice addition

DSC06932.jpg

Once installed everything, I was shocked

DSC06935.jpg

Really big

DSC06946.jpg

DSC06938.jpg

DSC06950.jpg

DSC06953.jpg

Some more pictures of the beautiful extra addition

DSC06939.jpg

DSC06936.jpg

DSC06955.jpg

DSC06956.jpg

DSC06959.jpg

So a new build with a superb case from:

DSC06944.jpg

Before we even get to modding, an overview of all the accessories

One Standard HDD Cage is coming with the case

DSC06965.jpg

DSC06970.jpg

Ordered two more

DSC06967.jpg

As I mentioned earlier comes with rubber bands for installing at the front with screws

DSC06969.jpg

With gaskets and mounting bolts for the HDDs

DSC06995.jpg

DSC06999.jpg

DSC06998.jpg

The SSD Mounting Kit

DSC07006.jpg

Two Vertical Accessory Mount

DSC06972.jpg

DSC06975.jpg

And the Horizontal Accessory Mount

DSC06977.jpg

DSC06974.jpg

These will be very useful

DSC06978.jpg

A PSU Support Bracket For heavy powersupplies

DSC06990.jpg

A lot of Flex-Bay Device Mount

DSC06993.jpg

Two x 360 Radiator Side Mount For in the pedestal

DSC07008.jpg

And a Bottom Accessory Mount

DSC06985.jpg

DSC06988.jpg

To replace the standard bottom covers, consists of three sizes (picture is the longest)
A few HDD Opening Cover Plates Replacement cover plates for the HDD openings on the PSU side

DSC07000.jpg

A Large Attachment Plate for various purposes such as installing reservoirs or miscellaneous

DSC06980.jpg

DSC06981.jpg

DSC06982.jpg

And finally, all the spare parts comes with the case

DSC07003.jpg

DSC07001.jpg

DSC07002.jpg

Of course I also had time to do some modding. A little teaser ;)

DSC07033.jpg

I have owned a mountain mods U2 UFO horizon for three years. Based on the pics I have seen in the work logs the craftsmanship, customization and build quality of the case labs cases appears to be far superior. Happy modding and building!

I was looking hard at the Mountain Mods stuff. Then I stumbled across Caselabs. Yeah, complete direction change. The fact that you can remove the front, top, and both side panels toolless makes for easy custom painting of the outside.

Thank you my modding friends ;)

Yes, These removable covers are really great for modding purposes

Shown in the next update ;)

Update!!!

Ok, my friends Its modding time :)
Beneath the top cover there are holes for 120mm fans, which I dont need.
These will disappear, because I want a good view from all sides

So taped and marked

DSC07010.jpg

Always an exciting moment...the first cut-out

DSC07013.jpg

DSC07017.jpg

I also slightly modified the recesses in the bottom of the case. There were also holes for 120mm fans (3x) on both sides

DSC07015.jpg

Between the pedestal and the case I have inserted an acrylic plate, which makes the separation between the two

DSC07018.jpg

Later i am gonna use fill ports for the tubes and/ or acrylic pipes

DSC07020.jpg

DSC07022.jpg

In the top cover I also made openings with the same size as the recesses underneath

DSC07023.jpg

DSC07025.jpg

DSC07028.jpg

Piece of acrylic for the top window

DSC07030.jpg

DSC07031.jpg

DSC07033.jpg

For the front I also did some cutting, but first marking

DSC07037.jpg

DSC07038.jpg

The same dimensions as the 5.25 bays

DSC07039.jpg

DSC07041.jpg

Piece of acrylic behind

DSC07043.jpg

Going to use the exciting fanholes because of the 360 rad behind it later

DSC07044.jpg

DSC07061.jpg

DSC07046.jpg

To keep the color combination (black / silver) I have cut a piece of aluminum with the fanholes. And a hole for the switch. This is further extended to the right with displays, and more switches in the middle.

DSC07062.jpg

What's going to look like this

DSC07054.jpg

More to come ;)

The story continues......With some nice hardware and more;)

The hardware is a nice Gigabyte mobo: The Z68X-UD4-B3

DSC07494.jpg

And a great CPU: The i7-2600K

DSC07493.jpg

I've changed my mind regarding the front. For this I made the aluminum front again

DSC07698.jpg

The opening above is for 2 HDD coolers. Always fun to see how the flow is

DSC07697.jpg

DSC07696.jpg

Made it black

DSC07700.jpg

DSC07706.jpg

In order to be able to make this happen, there where some adjustments necessary

DSC07716.jpg

DSC07718.jpg

After some dremel cutting and filing

DSC07720.jpg

DSC07719.jpg

DSC07721.jpg

DSC07723.jpg

So I've slightly modified the existing hdd cages and placed it

DSC07748.jpg

DSC07747.jpg

DSC07744.jpg

And this is how the front looks for now. There also are coming two Lamptrons touch controllers in it

DSC07728.jpg

DSC07741.jpg

I also want to thank Cooler Master for providing theTurbine Master Mach 1.8 fans
And...a beautiful M2 Silent pro 1500W
He's big....really big :)

DSC07750.jpg

Nice sticker, not unimportant lol

DSC07755.jpg

After placing the PSU I've been playing with the space. And to fill this space I've cut a piece of aluminum and bent it.

DSC07763.jpg

Cut a piece of 5mm black acrylic

DSC07764.jpg

This will be the bottom

DSC07762.jpg

DSC07766.jpg

On this I will place two reservoirs, not the 150mm but 250mm

DSC07768.jpg

DSC07769.jpg

DSC07772.jpg

DSC07773.jpg

Left here and there some space for some ideas

DSC07771.jpg

DSC07775.jpg

And at the back I've made a fanhole for a nice small 80mm fan

DSC07777.jpg

More to come ;)

I love Case Labs builds. What are your thoughts as to the quality of the sleeving they use for those switches? Is it something that can be left or in your opinion is it likely that most people will cut it off and use something else?

I think the sleeved switches are great, I will use this for all the four Lamptron switches later
It's all just great quality

Sponsor update:

Lamptron is also helping me with this build, So special thanks to Maurizio
Received the first touch controllers. I asked for aluminum version (which is convenient for future builds) but for this build I'm adjusting these.

DSC07831.jpg

Nicely finished and sleeved

DSC07832.jpg

DSC07833.jpg

Couldn't resist to intall the switches

DSC07836.jpg

DSC07838.jpg

And with acrylic in front of it. Still need to cut the holes and raise the switches a little bit

DSC07839.jpg

And just one final pic to show the quality of the beautiful finished aluminum faceplate

DSC07842.jpg

Sponsor update

I also want to welcome a great sponsor for this build .... Highflow
Given the great choice of products, I have choosen some nice stuff.

DSC07843.jpg

Always nice to a Highflow package, Thank you Freddy!!!

First two beautifull reservoirs. The EK-Multioption RES X2 - 250 Advanced

DSC07846.jpg

DSC07847.jpg

Some Tygon R3603 - HighFlow - 1/2 ID - 3/4 OD - Clear tube

DSC07852.jpg

DSC07853.jpg

And nine great NorthQ 120MM 3711RL Silent Tornado fans

DSC07858.jpg

DSC07906.jpg

Also a small 80MM NorthQ 3709RL Silent Tornado

DSC07901.jpg

Playing with the fans ;)

DSC07886.jpg

DSC07874.jpg

I'm very satisfied with the fans, They will look perfect in this build

DSC07890.jpg

And last 2x Acryl Paneel - UV Rood / Transparant - 500x500mm

DSC07910.jpg

DSC07912.jpg

Once everything unpacked, it's modding time. Cut a piece of red acrylic and cut a hole in it for a tube

DSC07932.jpg

In the black acrylic I have cut 2 holes with the size of the reservoirs cut to keep them in place

DSC07934.jpg

DSC07931.jpg

And cut a little piece for a fillport

DSC07937.jpg

Two fillports for the hdd cooler with a little touch of red

DSC07935.jpg

Playing with the tubes and of course placed the fans

DSC07914.jpg

DSC07916.jpg

DSC07922.jpg

DSC07924.jpg

Also placed the reservoirs with some BP links (these will be black)

DSC07928.jpg

After a bit of measuring and other small things, made the aluminum plate black

DSC07940.jpg

And placed everything back

DSC07941.jpg

DSC07943.jpg

DSC07948.jpg

DSC07953.jpg

Again connected the tubes

DSC07955.jpg

DSC07958.jpg

DSC07961.jpg

And two pics how one side stands now .... on to the next ;)

DSC07966.jpg

DSC07963.jpg

So after some thinking and some urging of fellow modders I decided to do everything straight. It's more work ... but I'm in no hurry;)

DSC07984.jpg

DSC07985.jpg

DSC07987.jpg

Also a nice idea I have seen in another build is the tilted mobo. Made the back plate again with 2mm aluminum, and marked the shape of the backtray

DSC07975.jpg

Sawing, drilling and Filing

DSC07976.jpg

Placed the original mobo tray, pasted black vinyl again to get it black. Maybe a bit lazy but this is so easy, quick, scratch resistant, inexpensive and just the right color.

The tilted mobo

DSC07988.jpg

DSC07992.jpg

DSC07993.jpg

DSC08000.jpg

DSC08003.jpg

DSC08004.jpg

DSC08006.jpg

DSC08008.jpg

DSC08013.jpg

Missing something ... red I think. therefore entirely dismantled the backplate and cut a red plate

DSC08041.jpg

DSC08042.jpg

DSC08043.jpg

And everything reassembled, this time with countersunk m3 bolts. Rivets are unfortunately too short now

DSC08044.jpg

DSC08045.jpg

Nice touch... inside is red now :)

DSC08047.jpg

And placed it. Now with some daylight pics

DSC08049.jpg

DSC08052.jpg

Placed NorthQ fans in front instead of the Turbine masters

DSC08026.jpg

And received some nice red hardware

DSC08030.jpg

An made an additional air outlet. Will place mesh later.

DSC08055.jpg

Furthermore beeing busy with the acrylic pipe, to get this as straight as possible. Just like the other side, cut a piece of aluminum with fanhole

DSC08054.jpg

Made it black and cut and placed a piece of red acrylic. Placed a loose tube for size and see if it's straight

DSC08056.jpg

DSC08062.jpg

And fits nicely along the mobo tray

DSC08067.jpg

And the weekend is over ... unfortunately. More Next week ;)

Wow, that's beautiful. I like the genuine idea of angled MB tray even though spatially, it may not be practical. I also really like the shape of those fans. I went for GT fans because my fans won't probably be intake.

mobo tray looks awesome. well done.

Thank you :)

Jesus, even with the lower res pictures, you can still see all the crap milling marks on those blocks. At this point, I'd just be way to scared of the plating and the crap milling to put anything EK in my units.

Hope it works out for you.

The looks are good, that's what counts

Sweet mod. I still don't understand why you would want a case that big though lol

The bigger the better

This is the nicest build/PC I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did anyone else have the theme from 2001 playing in their head while scrolling through the gallery?
I have a feeling the finished product is gonna be proof positive that modding is a legitimate artform.

largest advertisement I have seen in some time

If someone gave me $500+ in water cooling gear, I think I'd give them a pretty big shout-out too. Although I'm still not sold on this whole circle design EK has come up with...

Keep up the good work Kier; I look forward to checking your build logs every Sunday morning.

yeah...sorry. I should subscribe to the "if you can't say anything nice" principle but I got burnt in the EK plating fiasco and it still smarts pretty bad.

Build looks cool and all

Thanks my modding friends. Hopefully this update will change your mind a little bit about the new EKWB design ;)

Update!!!

It has been a while, but here a big big update
First a thank you note for Sicomputers. The GPUs (GTX680) were not available, but thanks to the good and fast service from Sicomputers I got 2 beautiful cards.
And as promised an honorable mention with banner ;)

Project3-2.jpg

2 beautiful GTX cards

DSC08108.jpg

First tested on air

DSC08107.jpg

Time to give the cards a transformation
EK-FC680 GTX - Acetal + Nickel CSQ

DSC08355.jpg

DSC08359.jpg

DSC08365.jpg

DSC08354.jpg

DSC08369.jpg

DSC08368.jpg

And the great EK-FC680 GTX Backplate - Black CSQ

DSC08367.jpg

Also placed the EK-Supremacy - Nickel

DSC08374.jpg

One GPU placed

DSC08372.jpg

For now with multi link, but will not use these in this build.

DSC08376.jpg

Really like the backplate.

DSC08380.jpg

Placed 2e GPU

DSC08383.jpg

Allready installed the radiators with theNorthQ fans

DSC08493.jpg

With the EK-CoolStream 360 RAD XT

DSC08500.jpg

DSC08505.jpg

DSC08485.jpg

And then I received a great package from....van Freddy.... Highflow

DSC08509.jpg

With (hope so) the latest products that I need for this build.

Offcourse with some Fillports

DSC08511.jpg

DSC08512.jpg

And 15mm extenders

DSC08513.jpg

DSC08514.jpg

DSC08515.jpg

90 degrees adapters

DSC08516.jpg

DSC08517.jpg

DSC08520.jpg

Smaller extenders

DSC08521.jpg

DSC08522.jpg

Because I've made the angle in the mobo tray, the 45 degrees rotery's will not fit. Therefore I've ordered some 30 degrees rotery's

DSC08523.jpg

DSC08524.jpg

DSC08525.jpg

and offcourse my favorite adapter, the multi link adapter

DSC08527.jpg

DSC08528.jpg

DSC08529.jpg

I still have some other ideas for the Case labs case, but for this I'll need some more acrylic. Therefore 3mm transparent

DSC08532.jpg

And UV red acrylic

DSC08533.jpg

DSC08535.jpg

Freddy/ Highflow thank you again for the quick service and good products and ... have a great holiday.

Now the explanation why this order has taken place. I'll will make this setup with the solid tubes

DSC08452.jpg

From the CPU, 2 pipes going up. Because there's an angle in the mobo I can not use the 45 degree fitting to connect on a fillport

DSC08536.jpg

That's why I'm using the 30 degrees rotery

DSC08539.jpg

DSC08540.jpg

Ordered the extenders to lower the in- and outlet.

DSC08542.jpg

DSC08543.jpg

To create a corner with the acrylic tubes I use the 15mm extender, 2x multi link and the 90 graden adapter

DSC08574.jpg

DSC08583.jpg

DSC08578.jpg

DSC08575.jpg

Now only a multi link, later there will be added a fillport

DSC08576.jpg

More multi links

DSC08584.jpg

And connected everything

DSC08581.jpg

Chapter red acrylic :)

Previously I had a 5mm thick transparent plate between the case and the pedestal. But I want the red lines run entirely in this build, therefore changed the middle part.

The red acryl.

DSC08554.jpg

Cut it.

DSC08555.jpg

After this cut the 3 mm transparent transparant acryl "]acrylic[/URL]

DSC08556.jpg

Placed like this.

DSC08558.jpg

Removed the plastic.

DSC08559.jpg

DSC08560.jpg

DSC08565.jpg

DSC08569.jpg

DSC08570.jpg

The plate is transparent to get a free sight what happens in the pedestal.

DSC08563.jpg

I was not very happy with the front, just didn't like it. Therefore I've sawn a new piece of red acrylic

DSC08594.jpg

With the sizes of the detachable front.

DSC08595.jpg

Used some spacers.

DSC08596.jpg

Also sawn a new plate with the fanholes and the holes for the Lamptron switches

DSC08597.jpg

With illuminated edges

DSC08589.jpg

DSC08592.jpg

DSC08591.jpg

The 2 spaces above the HDD coolers are for the Lamptron controllers

DSC08598.jpg

The last thing i've did is sleeving the Coolermaster 1500w Silent pro M2

DSC08446.jpg

Finished

DSC08547.jpg

DSC08548.jpg

24 pins

DSC08549.jpg

CPU cables

DSC08550.jpg

And some GPU cables

DSC08551.jpg

Connected everything to see how it looks.

DSC08483.jpg

DSC08482.jpg

DSC08479.jpg

That's it for now...Grtz.

Looks great! I have a question about the watercooling setup, are you concerned at all about all the flow restrictions so many 90 degree bends are going to add? I know you're focusing on looks a lot, but there are 5 90 degree bends on the GPU blocks alone. That's going to add some serious restriction eventually, are you going to be running 2 pumps on that loop?
