Planetside 2

I got a 3rd beta key for Guildwars 2 in a matter of 2 minutes of searching, but still can't get one from PS2 after creating a Twitter account to beg, scouring the city for a fucking magazine and even resorting to searching Ebay...yeah, fuck this beta. I'll wait until the game comes out.

Nuts, I wish I had registered my key earlier... I just did it now, but I may have had a chance at the tech test if I had done it a few days ago :(. /kicks-self.

I seriously doubt that..... I registered my beta key back in February (PC Gamer) and still haven't received an email from SOE about the tech-test. Oh well, this coming week is going to be ridiculously busy anyways...

They were only letting a small amount into the first test (I heard less than 1000 people)

More will be added later

so I went to Twitter for one last beg, and sure as shit I got a key this time! I'm so happy now, and you'll see me playing on team purple!

I said I would have had a chance at the tech test, which I would have. I didn't say I would have gotten in for sure. What is your post saying exactly? This also was one of the first public invite waves, so I don't get what your mention of how long you were registered has to do with my post either.

I think everyone was chosen for this tech test late last week if I'm not mistaken. This was hand picked depending on what you had for hardware. It wasn't a total random beta invite with a push of a button last night. Potentially more invites going out on Monday. No idea when those were chosen though.

I got into the technical test. Downloading now, but it's very slow because I'm also downloading 3 Steam purchases (including Batman AC - 16gb). I'm actually a little bit surprised I was chosen because of course the game is going to work on my machine, but it looks they are more concerned about things on their end.

:D

Shhh! There's an NDA and you aren't supposed to even mention you are invited to the technical test. ;)

They mentioned specifically that revealing you're in the Tech Test/Beta is OK (i.e. they're not going to go after you), even though the legal language said it's not.

Looks like I missed out on Tech Test fun...if anyone gets an invite and doesn't need it (or, they give you the chance to invite someone), please toss it my way.

On the good side, they are on schedule to start true beta next week according to the SOE president!

Beta starts Monday 5 PM EST for those wondering. Original PS vets will only take about a month to get all in and the PC Gamer/FB/Twitter will all be getting in after.

If you haven't already check this game out!

Link to the epic trailer if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41QFL4QB3NE

Thats only part 1 of 3 that has been released. Other two will show off the TR and VS.

Can't believe I missed out on the beta keys for this! Super excited about it either way..but if someone wants to toss me an extra....just saying. ;)

I thought the point of getting a beta key was that you'd get in when it started.....not a month+ after, where'd you get this info?

Never was the case. There is always been four tiers. 1st subbed vets to PS1, 2nd non currently subbed vets, 3rd PC Gamer/FB/Twitter/Priority keys, and 4th people without any key/vet status.

The keys you get from PC Gamer, Facebook, Twitter, or at some SOE event are only priority. As in you are ahead in the line. If SOE invited in the vets and priority keys at once you would be looking at over a 100K invites. Company needs a lot more servers before it can accommodate that many people at one time.

The info itself has been stated, since the beginning of the year and been made clear by Smedley (SOE CEO) over twitter in recent weeks.

I've been following this game, since Jan 2011.

Should be worth the wait : )

I'm curious as to the F2P model, how long it will take to level etc, I read one article that said months for decent progression. Though i'm sure they'll sell * upgrades * to speed that up.

gah... I still have my PS disks / key, but my SOE has long been lost for years.

Guess i'll have to wait for public beta :(

I haven't logged into Planetside since...July 20, 2003....wonder where I rank in beta invites..

Trust me, it isn't worth getting into right now. In a month or so with some updates it should be much more playable. You aren't missing a thing but frustration at the moment.

Game looks good, I will probalby play it upon actual release... but...

how are they supposed to make money, and what will we need to buy/how much?

But why would anybody ever pay for anything, and how would the developers make money??????????

*Head explodes*

I predict we'll see something similar to TF2 and Tribes Ascend, they will boast that you only have to pay for cosmetic items in order to show how fair their combat system is, but in reality gaining the in game currency to buy upgrades will take an impossibly long time. But there will be booster packs available to help you level.

If the game is good and I play regularly then I'll spend money regardless, we don't deserve to get the entire game free if we like playing it, I'll spend at least the amount of money I would have spent on a monthly sub.

lol you'd be surprised, look at league of legends.. they make 80% of their money off skin purchases for champs and making money hand over fist from it. there are a lot of people in the mmo genre that like doing roll playing stuff so thats where developers make a lot of their money from.

I feel if I really really like the game and play it a lot, I should at least pay the regular purchasing fee of a regular game.

Yeah I had a similar feeling but you also have realise that MMO servers cost a lot to maintain and that they need a steady income for that as well, if it was just a game like CoD with small servers that the community pay for and maintain then I'd do the same and pay a regular purchasing fee worth of microtransactions.

If they really manage to get thousands of players in each server that'll be worth the "sub" IMO.

I havn't logged into planet side 1 since planet side 1 beta. Does that give me PS2 beta?

No. You had to actually subscribe.

The above information is mostly correct. PS1 vets had priority for beta, and then they will add the other beta keys as needed. Active PS1 vets have highest priority, the cut off being yesterday afternoon.

That being said, some non PS1 vets got in to both the tech test and the closed beta which was supposed to start last night, but they had issues and it will supposedly start tonight.

like somebody said a few posts up this is kind of like a valve / league of legends situation. you'd be suprised how big cosmetics are. and how inclined people are to spend a few dollars every now and then. I love buying stuff for Dota 2 heroes. and cosmetics for planetside 2 have huge potential. I have a feeling that you can make your infantry uniforms look insane with some money.

I may be wrong, but I think you'll have to buy the actual basic game, then F2P covers what would normally be a subscription to access their servers on a monthly basis.

it is entirely free to play. no initial cost, no subscription
