Steam 2012 Summer Sale 7/12-22!

Yea so far this sale (for me) has been a huge bust.

it's been almost only older titles and games that have been on sale over and over and over.

I wanted newer games, like Endless space, but it never went on sale or even got a discount.

Yeah that sucks. I was about to get it also, and then I realized I already had ARMA II, so if anything I'll grab Operation Arrowhead.

If I'm not mistaken, when you buy a pack like that, you'll only be able to gift a copy of what you already have if it's a stuff like HL or L4D and perhaps the DoW franchise

Decided to buy the Dawn of War 2 pack. Anyone know which one of these I need to install to get playing? All 3 of them?

you only need retribution for MP.

the earlier two were MP via GFWL so not very many people play them online anymore. Retribution was a reboot to transfer from GFWL to SteamWorks.

Install the first two to play in sequence for SP Campaign. When you're ready to play Chaos Rising I'll co-op with you if you want to earn the Battle Brother achievement.

Someone would actually bother Gabe for 6 f'ing dollars? I admit I am cheap with games too but I would never waste to time of someone like Gabe for pocket change... if I felt I had an important billing issue I would at least contact regular customer service first.. but shit he already had the original game but was too hasty to check his library before pulling the trigger so it's really no ones fault but his own..

i played through the first two so i felt like i had to slog through the third. it also ended rather abruptly. i had no idea i was fighting the last boss until i killed him.
 
Man this warhammer stuff is confusing! so many packs.

If I just wanted Dawn of war 2: Retribution and the dlc for just it (not warhammer 2, or chaos rising) what do I buy?

Do I need to buy both the base game + the "Buy Dawn of War II: Retribution - Tau Commander and All Wargear Bundle?"

What is the wargear stuff? I am mainly looking to get it for the multiplayer (but not the co op/wave stuff, just player vs player mp) so is there any dlc I wouldn't need/want then?
 
I am a little disappointed in how this sale went. I saw quite a few items that were up for vote that never actually were listed as a daily/flash deal at the price advertised when up for the vote. The two I saw were Sim City 4(which was a community choice but I missed it) and Test Drive Unlimited 2.

Now, I bought a ton of games and have been very happy overall, it's just I wish a few more of the games that were listed got their own days, not just flash deals. Maybe this will change tomorrow, but if the final days follows past steam sales it will just be an encore.
 
Well I thought I was all done with this sale but then I saw Sniper Ghost Warrior is only $5 so I think ill have to pick that up and add it to the backlog.
 
Is any of the DLC for Arkham City worth the cost? I beat it on PS3, but am wanting to really delve in and work at finding all secrets and stuff.
 
I just fell victim to the Civilization Collection. Before the sale, I wanted Arma II for DayZ, but I can't bring myself to pay $18 to play a mod in the alpha stage.
 
I've been pretty conservative in my purchases this time around because of my massive backlog. I refused to purchase a game unless it was < $5 with Alan Wake Bundle being the only exception. My damage so far:

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

Total wallet damage: about $25. But I'm bummed that I missed the sale on Risen :( I did not think I would like it until I downloaded the demo this morning at which point I thought I must get it. Hopefully it is featured tomorrow but that does not seem likely. It was not one of the top sellers...

Ssd's are getting there. We have seen top quality ssd's in te 240-256gb range for under $180, maybe even under $170. But I'm looking forward to being able to get an awesome 512 for under $200. That would make an awesome Steam drive. Til then my 256 830 will have to do.

I was thinking the same thing last night.

Sniper Elite is tempting too...might pick that up as well to tide me over until I can pick up the sequel to both titles.

Also, FYI if you visit your wishlist enough the prices will occasionally show up so you can scroll through and see the deeper discounts. :D Be sure that if you get it to show up, you open any links on that page in a new tab...when you refresh it or navigate away from the page it takes several more refreshes before the prices show up again. Guess it's a glitch but I was able to quickly see what was on sale for >50% off in my wishlist.

It hasn't been less than $15 from anywhere since DayZ got popular. If you want it for $10, you'll probably have to wait until all the buzz around it dries up (or ArmA III comes out).
 
And this is why I fucking hate relying on internet content/connection. I buy a game and can't even play it until I get a key. Back to pirating...

You may have seen this already, but Sniper Elite v2 on Amazon for $14.99, activates in Steam. I bought this one since Steam's sale was only marked down to $25

I picked that game up. I played for about 10 minutes before I walked through a doorway and fell through the earth into nothingness. And to top it off, it saved automatically in the doorway. So when I reload I'm just falling again, lol. Pissed me off, but I'll give it a try again later.

It wasn't bad. The first few minutes are a kind of tutorial. I never got to shoot anyone, so can't comment on how satisfying that part of the game is. Probably about to try again.

I had to wait a hour for a key for a $5 game. Well I guess that gives me the right to pirate $50 games at release. :rolleyes:

Most of the game I purchased earlier in the sale were ones I had been wanting prior to the Steam sale anyway...but after looking at so many new games this time, tonight I took a chance on a couple of titles:

Crysis 2 Maximum Edition (finally at a price I'm willing to digest)
Deep Black: Reloaded (no demo; a total blind leap...I know nothing about this game but the underwater gameplay mechanic sounds cool. It's something different. Not that different always means good. :D)
F.E.A.R. 2 (most say it's somewhere in between the greatness of F1 and the fail of F3)
F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn DLC
Hydrophobia: Prophecy (another blind leap...cheap as heck and I thought it could be a very interesting game for $1.24; then again there could be a reason it's so cheap)
NightSky (like many indie games, it was cheap. easy on the eyes and had an interesting gameplay premise. This is the kind of game whose entertainment value could easily exceed its price.)
Sniper Elite (craving a sniper game and this one had a decent metascore; the second one looks good too. Not sure how I missed this one when it came out.)
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Gold (yes I'm aware of the metascore and I've heard "meh" things about the game but I didn't have any sniper games until tonight and it has to provide $5 of enjoyment)
Velvet Assassin (I've been eyeing this game for a while; it sounded interesting but flawed enough that I wasn't willing to pay >$5. $2.49 was enough to make me bite and satisfy my curiosity. A female spy who expertly kills her foes in a variety of ways? Sign me up!)

Yeah thats how i noticed Sniper Ghost Warrior was on sale for 75% off. I was just randomly looking at my wishlist and i was like hey its showing prices now.
 
Trying to find a working Day Z server is like trying to find someone on hardforum that has a bulldozer rig.

I think I need to come to terms with the fact my gaming days are over. Can't even find anything I want to play anymore.
