Any recommendations? I'm looking for something that offers reasonable drop protection, holds on to the smart cover, and is lightweight.

The incipio feather ultralight looks good, but it doesn't sound like it's strong enough to survive a drop.

Have you checked out the Smart Case from Apple? It doesn't work together with the smart cover, but it replaces it.

I just ordered one of these, will report back when it gets here Tues, looks great though as long as you dont use the apple dock

I didn't realize there was such a product as the Apple Smart Case -- but from reading some of the press releases it sounds like it's designed to protect the ipad from 'scratches'.

Depending on the height and surface, I think the Smartcase could handle a drop or two with minimal damage (and I shoudl not I dropped my iPad2 face-down from weist-height onto CEMENT, and the smart-cover prevented ANY damage to the screen! (though the bezel with get a dint in it)) If your gennerally careful with your devices and dont anticipate a lot of harsh falls, a smartcase looks like a good option, however if you expect to constantly drop it or but into things with it , you might want to look elsewhere...

Bodyguardz sells a smart case called the Garrison. Great protection. Check it out on their website?

I ended up by an otterbox. Very protective, but unfortunately I couldn't tell from the pictures that it is not a very usable stand. Only one position, and the laptop is not secure while using the stand.
