Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

For the of all that is holy... I cannot express how much I wish they had used the graphics engine they had originally built.

Guy should run for president. There's not much there, though there are some thinly veiled acknowledgement sthat things aren't right.
I'm just nto sure I would categorize the launch as "not positive."

I don't know about that, I thought it was a pretty reasonable and well said post.

I haven't seen this posted, but Bliz President Mike Morhaime posted over on the Bliz foums about the state of DIII:

I would be skeptical about this. It seems kind of fishy, like its a hacked blue post. Some other forums are also theorizing this idea. I mean, why such a long explanatory post on the EU forums. They hardly if ever post there afaik, especially from the CEO?? Just something seems off from the usual blue posts that I tend to read.

I mean wtf, even the beginning "Dear Diablo Players" What is this a Dear Abby letter?

It's gotten too much circulation on the major websites for it to be hacked. Bliz would have caught wind and deleted it LONG ago.

tldr: <insert bs vague statement here to justify RMAH failure> We will try to fix some balance and legendary items issue in the next patch... also pvp is coming.. please don't stop playing our shitty game.

Yeah maybe, I've been poking around and maybe it is legit. I saw it first on jsp like minutes after it was posted and didn't really look into it after that. But I guess it has circulated and has been up for 6 hours so it must be legit I guess. Its on Mike's wikipedia page lol

Just thought that was amusing. Like its his big public apology in his illustrious career.

Not only that, but someone added a little gem to the end:
On July 19, 2012, Morhaime publicly apologized for Diablo 3's poor reception by the Diablo brand's diehard followers. He stated that his team were actively working on improving it through patch 1.0.4. Later that day, Michael Morhaime the CEO of Blizzard fired Jay Wilson, who was Diablo 3 Game Director.
lolsauce

LOLZ, i love wikipedia sometimes.

Game is just way more of a failure in Europe then NA, thats probably why he posted on EU forums.

Are you guys trolling me??? Did it really say that about Jay Wilson? LOL

Now his wikipedia page says nothing, even about the public apology? Man some heads must be flying at Blizz today.

I guess the wiki page was reverted. It didn't fit on there, especially the firing of Jay Wilson part lol.

Here's the forum post: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6080663481

CMs act as proxies when statements from Mike are given. I'm not even sure if he wrote it himself.

So I've been curious about this for awhile and just never bothered looking into it. Do any of you get disconnected when you have the game paused? It doesn't happen right away but say like 15 min or so.

Someone tested it... it's 30 minutes I believe.

Oh so it's designed that way? That's retarded. I only do that if I have a 5 stack and have to do something else.

But I've also just alt tabbed when I was in town and when I come back I see the connection lost box also.

It's not retarded, it's so that people who aren't actively playing the game aren't using up server resources while they're not even playing.

Yeah because that is certainly the biggest fish in the sea. Hmm cough botters cough. Get real!

Well, the 5-stack expire in 30 mins if you didn't kill the next elite/champion pack so it's a moot point. The 30-min before dropping the connection is a good measure to avoid tying up resources for nothing.

If you press esc it pauses the game so thats not true at all but okay

Only in SP. So, half true. And most people play multi one they get to farming time, I think, to decrease the time it takes to do runs.

Most people farm in SP... and the original question was about "when paused" - which implies SP. I think you can AFK for as long as you want in a MP game. Someone AFK'd an entire act while the other party members did the quests etc. This was in HC and they ended up dragging monsters to town to kill him.

I love the statement from Blizz, just more bullshit justification for the piss poor decisions they've made. How a company can be so tone deaf to the complaints about this joke of a game is just staggering. It sucks because you made a greedy cash grab, developed everything around the RMAH, and destroyed what made Diablo so fun and addictive, THE LOOT! It sucks, plain and simple. You never feel powerful, you never get that rush of finding a cool item or finding an awesome new build to use. Theres nothing they can do to fix it, short of scrapping nearly everything and building it the right way, but that's not going to happen.

I have to agree with ^^^^^^^^

The Loot is the biggest let down ever.

Also, the Legendarys are getting a buff, Big Deal since they drop less than 0.1% of the time in my experience.

Diablo 3...

After sinking hours into it out of the sheer fact that I dropped $60 on CareBear 3, I mean, Diablo 3, it ended up disappointing me as much as paying $1k for a hooker without a single fuckable hole, and the playing of which made me feel so dirty and ashamed that I had to shower and scrub myself with steel wool just to feel clean and unsoiled by it's pestilent pustules of stinking viscous mediocrity...

...and after removing the leash that was so deeply shoved up my ass with the always-on connection that I could taste the wretched digested remains of what I ate the night before, I had to read the dictionary to feel vindicated from the insult to my intelligence to prove to myself that I wasn't half-retarded.

I believe that D3 actually kills brain cells due to the infectious nature of it's own stupidity, which it exudes in more ways than I can count... probably due to not being able to count as high I used to, because I now haz the stupedz.

How many hours did it take for you to realize you did not like it?

ive been hoarding llegendarys wondering if the upgrades will be retroactive... Its all being held server side so no xcuse for not being able to make changes really.

online games have buffed already dropped gear after the fact for over a decade.

Seriously, I had played for 4 weeks on my Barbarian just to realize this was a Virtual Farming to RMAH Application under the disguise of a once popular game. And as I gotten flamed/trolled on the D3 forums from the brainless fanbois.. one poster told me if I didn't like it delete the game. So I did and enjoyment of playing other games not D3 resumed. Best advice eva.

It's not retroactive. Have to re-farm cause Blizzard say so.

it wouldnt surprise me but it shouldnt be that way seeing as they insist on controllign everything server side with always on connection they can make the corrections if they wanted.

Does anyone remember how well received Diablo 2 was AT LAUNCH? I only started playing it after LoD...

The improvements stated in the blue post should have been implemented day one... The server load issue is excusable; the game issues are not. They got cocky and did not sufficiently beta test this game.

Intriguing proposition... Blizz has done it in WoW, even. Tier 2 set stats were modified before many people had them ===> retroactively modified for the few who did.

Changes aren't retroactive. The announcement about buffing legendary items always had that foot note, which made it near impossible to miss. Unless you haven't read it yourself, I'm confused by how many people keep asking about it.

I think it is a big deal...

~230 hours played

22+ legendary drops, (the + because i salvaged some number of items, i don't remember)
4 out of the 22+ are set items
sittin' in my legendary mule

would advise you to dump those asap. you can keep them if you want, but the changes won't be retroactive. especially now that you can see the items stats without actually ID'ing them (if the ones you have are UNID)

I wonder why you guys all hate the RMAH so much, when you could essentially use that to pay for your game purchases during the Steam summer sale.

The first reply has a TL;DR:

If someone doesnt want to read this wall of text this is short version:

"Yes we know that we launched this game atleast 1 year to soon. Yes we know that this game is still in beta. Thanks for feedback beta players".

Rest is unimportant.

I have noticed an increase of 'good' drops these past couple days. I don't know if it just random - but I have gotten 4-5 legendary and a set item in the last couple days. Also have gotten gear that has sold for more than 16m gold in just the past couple days in addition to the other stuff.

Literally from getting no good drops to getting 1 or 2 every couple runs is a large change (my gear hasn't changed).
