*** before 3d, had a range of tseng labs cards
Then...

3DFX Voodoo
Matrox Millenium (wow.. they could have been soooooo good in today's market !!!)
3DFX Voodoo 2 (in glorious SLI, before it was SLI)
3DFX Voodoo 3
Nvidia Riva TNT
Nvidia Geoforce 2 Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 pro
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
ATI Radeon 4890
Nvidia Geforce 4 ti4800
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2
Nvidia GTX285
Nvidia GTX580
Nvidia GTX680

I'm almost positive I missed one or two cards at least..think I had an 8800 something too.

Always been a Nvidia boy really, though the ATI 9700 pro was just so far ahead of everything when it came out it was just ridiculous.

I always try to keep a decent gaming rig, and a few other PCs for the wife/kids, hence the lower end cards.
I'm tired of Radeon cards, figure my next move will be to team green. Need to get a IPS screen first though.

I'll just do the desktops I've owned.

For computers I have personally owned. Not family computers, etc.

ATI Riva 64? Seriously sucked... Whatever was just prior to the TNT. I returned it for the...
Matrox G200 (1998)
Gerfoce 2 GTS (2000)
Geforce 6600 (2005)
ATI Radeon x850 (???)
ATI Radeon HD 3850 (2007? - Present)

Is there anything I need better than a 3850 to play @ 1680x1050 resolution? I'm a year or two behind on games still, but catching up to modern games fairly quickly at present.

1. Cardex VL-Bus card
2. PCI card done by a company acquired by Philips in the mid 90s
3. ATI 3D Expression PC2TV
4. Voodoo 1
5. Riva TNT
6. Voodoo 3 2000
7. Voodoo 3 3000

9. Geforce 3 Ti
10. Geforce 6600
11. Geforce 8600
12. Geforce 9600
13. Radeon 5700

Updating this fall, Still leaning towards AMD but it depends on the mid range of Nvidia by then.

Late to the game + pretty tame.

First card ever was a 6600GT, then I bought a 7800GT when my nan gave me some cash, then a second hand 8800GTX and then finally a ATI HD5770.

Looking to upgrade to a 7970 when they come down to around £240.

I don't have a good memory on this...
most recently:
7800 GTX SLI
HD 6850
GTX 570
GTX 560 Ti
GTX 680
GTX 670

Currently all the way down to a HD 7770 Vapor X OC edition, but only because I've been playing less graphically intense games recently. Probably going to go back to a 670.

Voodoo 3
GeForce 5200
MSI 6600GT
EVGA 7900GTX
EVGA 8800GTS (Step up, still used in a different computer)

HD 7970 Crossfire

Back in the 90's i played on my parents Pentium 166mmx with a Voodoo1 4mb, good old days :D (Still have that card)

Have also gamed alot on my brother's MX440 and FX5200 back in the days.

ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 - 2004
ATI Radeon X800XL AGP - 2005
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 - 2006
Nvidia 7600GS AGP - 2008
ATI Radeon HD 3450 AGP - 2009
AMD Radeon HD 7750 - 2012

Yeah, as you can see, I'm a bit of an ATI/AMD dude, but I'm not opposed to Nvidia. And also, as you can see I sat on the same computer from 2003 - 2012. Yep! Next GPU purchase will probably be a mid-range Kepler if Nvidia gets their heads out of their butts and give us some new damn midrange GPUs!

Let me think...

EVGA 8500GT
PNY 9800GTX
(bought at launch, ewww)
EVGA 9800GTX
PNY GTX280
(Added an Accelero Cooler) <- Last card I've purchased new
ASUS HD5870
XFX HD6950 (reference - 6970 BIOS mod)
XFX HD7970 Double D BE

All since 2007.

Does the STB Lightspeed 128 count as a GPU?
or the Antic and CTIA chips in an old Atari 800XL?
Or the Enhanced Chip Set of the Amiga computer (4096 colors...woot!).

Other than that ancient stuff, my first true graphics card was the 3dfx Voodoo card...still have in my basement just recently found it...After that, it gets fuzzy...
I know I had a
Radeon 9700 Pro
Geforce 6800GT

Radeon HD 4870
HD 6950
and latest is Nvidia GTX670 FTW

Not a graphics card, but just found a Yamaha DB50XG Waveblaster sound daughter-card. found it with that STB card and the Voodoo card. I need to go thru boxes more often :D

1998 - Canopus Pure 3D (3Dfx) 6MB (first discrete purchase)
2000 - ATI Mach 3D (integrated in first laptop)
2003 - GeForce MX 440 - 128MB (came with a Gateway)
2004 - ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB (returned as defective)
2004 - ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB (flashed to XT)
2006 - EVGA GeForce 7800GT 256 MB
2006 - EVGA GeForce 7900GT SSC 256MB (step-up from previous card)
2006 - ATI Radeon X1900XTX 256 MB (card was DOA and returned)
2006 - EVGA GeForce 7900GTO 512MB (free upgrade due to defects in the previous line)
2008 - EVGA GeForce 9600GT 512MB
2012 - AMD Radeon 6850 (card was DOA and returned)
2012 - EVGA GeForce GTX 560

In terms of modern cards I don't really favor one company over another. I made an ATI purchase that was defective, exchanged it and some more cash for a higher end card and flashed that. Then I made an NV purchase, which I stepped up to a defective series, and while arguing with EVGA I tried another ATI product that was DOA. Ended up getting a nice upgrade from EVGA to fix their screwup. Went EVGA again for 4 years on a 9600GT before trying ATI/AMD again. Another DOA card so I went with EVGA yet again.

The main reason for the string NV cards was Linux drivers. Feb. '94, kernel 0.99pl14 - present. I've put a fair number of ATI boards into Windows-only builds for friends & family.

My first video card was an original 3DFX Voodoo and now I have a GTX 670. I started my PC gaming with Quake, but it was the original Unreal was the first game that made my jaw drop graphically.
