Just great, this is going to give the "video games cause violence" crowd more ammunition. Good job Canada. ;)

“I was telling him, there is no need for you to be freaking out about World of Warcraft. It’s just a game,” Osborne said, while his neighbour fought with a friend who was visiting. “He said, ‘It’s not just a game, it’s my life.’” That’s when the man grabbed his throat, punched him in the face and stabbed him in the chest, Osborne said.

That's as crazy as the other crap going on at the bottom of that page, Canada is just whacky, although I have seen what some of the hardcore WoW basement dwellers look like so I'm not really surprised.

The sad thing is when they realize they have nothing in their life, including any other sort of social interaction, other then Warcraft. That's when you hit rock bottom. As much as I hate people, human beings do need physical interaction with others.

the picture in that article.... that's a stab wound? I've had cat scratches worse than that.

Looks like it went through all the flesh layers, possibly the only thing that saved him was the rib cage, or the WoW player lacking any actual knowledge of where to cut someone. You get mauled by an ocelot, or mountain lion lately?

Damn, WoW a way of life? A strategy game? To get grabbed by the throat and get stabbed? He must've gotten beat in Arena. Hell I played that game from start and quit about a month ago and the only rage I let out was on a bottle of Jack Daniels. :D

Well I guess going to jail is going to cut into his raid time.

No Moar Purples!

Video games are more than just games to many people. People should learn to understand this, alot of them are very competitive and others require tons of time devotion. Mario is just a game. Getting called over the phone by your guild in the middle of the night because a dragon spawned and you wanna down it before other people do means it's more than just a game.

Well, honestly farming raid content day in and day out is jail time, at least he'll be getting some.. just not in the right sense.

Obviously you've never been incarcerated before or you'd realize that prison sex is a rare and special thing shared between two inmates who are willing to go the extra distance to share their whole selves with one another in the most meaningful way they can given the nature of where they're being forced to live. The fact that you're willing to dirty it up and make it seem like it is just angry rape shows that you haven't been in the hoosgow for long enough to form that special sort of relationship with your cell mate.

In canada we stab people over video games. In the good old US of A you eat each others face over bath salt (even tho they said he was high on canabis , munchies?)

Ah, give this one to the Americans, every other Stupid criminal/person event from America... cut them some slack. ;)

Anyways, that's pretty dumb thing to stab a person over... if he's stoled my beer, that of made sense... ;)

WoW wrecks lives. I've got a friend who's super intelligent with a degree and he lives at home and plays WoW all day. He's 32 I think.

dorks like orcs?

Never got that game. Played it a bit but always solo. That probably helped.

There seems to be some anger management issues with Canadians in a video game context. Remember that the one who called the SWAT team in Washington state to the Minecraft server's admin's house was from Canada too.

Way back in the day, I wonder what the developers of WOW would think if you told them that one day, people would be dieing during a 3 day continuous gaming experience, throwing fits because mom took away their computer, or stabbing one another over their silly game.

Look at all these stories of death by warcraft...

You know this from experience? I know enough about being a hardcore WoW player and how they would react.. but my earlier statement was just a joke. :p

Is anyone else impressed with the fact that the guy grabbed him by the throat while punching him in the face and stabbing him in the chest? That takes some sorcery, must be a high level. That or he has three hands.

Did everyone gloss over this or just didn't take the time to question if this guy is for real?

I think he have a point. While video games were meant to be just a form of entertainment, there are people out there who plays it like their life depends on it. In fact, there are people who gets paid by sponsors to play in competitive tournaments.

Among the MMO crowds, you'll find even more extreme cases. From staying up all night and day waiting for boss spawns to stabbing people in real life

I don’t think that it mattered as to whether it was about a computer game, but that it was to do with the provocation/amplification/escalation effect of the further emotional reaction to someone saying “there is no need for you to be freaking out” about it, plus the fact that a knife was handy.

Psychological blows can be just as hard-hitting as physiological ones, whatever the device of transference.

The lesson: Have the argument over a social network site.

Not ever worried about that. Violent acts over video games is a piss of a fraction compare to other act of violence.
Lets see what are the tallies to date?:

Religion wars-a few 10s of millions.
Ethics cleansing- a few what?, safe to say, in the millions(Hitler, Bosno, Russia, witch-hunts).

The paradox (or irony) is that incidents like this are rare. That is why they are controversial, which is why they are reported when they do come up. If such incidents occurred frequently, then they wouldn’t be news.

what is with all this Canadian trash talk.. a lot more retarded stuff happens in the USA

I agree. I don't know what they have against us on this friday morning. Wack things like this happens all over anyway. Every country has theirs... shooting spree, crazy dumb ass shooting or exploding themselves. Heck, how many depressed dads killed their families lately ?

This is sad.
