If you are using a file hosting service to store all your Linux distros, you might have to find a different way to pay if you are using PayPal.

In recent weeks, PayPal has cut off many of the world’s largest filehosting sites from its service including MediaFire, Putlocker and DepositFiles. Growing concern over copyright infringement has resulted in an extremely strict and in some cases privacy-violating set of requirements being laid down by the payment processing company. Cyberlocker owners are disappointed with the apparent witch-hunt which in some cases is paralyzing their business.

.... make money the old fashioned way.... sue for tortuous interference.

I don't know why anyone would use paypal any more, the costs and fees and restrictions have made them not worth bothering with. Of course, this is ebay finishing its assimilation into mediocrity.

Still seems easier than setting up a traditional merchant account to accept credit cards.

Not to mention having to worry about whether an unknown merchant knows how to secure his shopping cart or not. In most uncommonly used sites, I use Paypal.

I refuse to use PayPal after having nothing but problems with those clowns. Those guys do some of the shadiest crap I've ever seen a company do and get away with it. Taking a bit off the top for every transactions is one thing, but completely withholding peoples entire account for months on end with little reason as to why they're doing it? Unacceptable. Most people I know are afraid to use them for small time donations for Internet services because of similar crap and because there policy is set up where basically, you have money in your PayPal account, it's PayPal's.

Most the people I know only use it because either A) They have to for some services on-line and don't want to give out there CC info on some shady sites and B) People giving customers the option of PayPal to broaden there customer base.

It's a catch 22 with little in the way of moving forward and giving PayPal some true competition if not eliminating them altogether with a better system and Company. Definitely should be on the Top 10 Worst Internet Companies.

Amazon has also done the same thing Paypal has, withholding monies earned for months on end. I can't trust these companies with my money any more than I would a conventional banking establishment

Our company had $18k locked away in our Paypal account while they earned interest off it for 6 months before unfreezing it and letting us withdraw all the money. We do nothing illegal at all (game company). But they dicked around so we refused to use them after that incident.

My former boss had $12k locked up by them for over a month.

It's almost like they have funds tied up elsewhere so they have to do this to a certain amount of accounts in-order to cover withdraw requests.

Paypal really isn't any easier to use than something like authorize.net. At least for our accountants, they like it better than paypal.

They've been doing this for a while. Since a lot of the popular file hosts are foreign based, taking away paypal can make payment options weird in the US.

*tinfoil hat*

Great, so now if they manage to control credit card companies too, they effectively now control YOU and what you can and cannot buy.

Until they fall under banking regulations as they should, I'll have nothing to do with them.

And I'll probably still not have anything to do with them afterward.

I found their customer service to be useless. Not good when it involves your money.

Dotcom gets the sledgehammer of doom upside his head.

Primary objective, squash his business. - Achieved
Secondary objective, put the fear of Angry Jeebus into the hearts of other companies. - Achieved.

Totally not surprised PayPal is doing this. They need to make sure their business does not have questionable ties to places known for enabling piracy. If they assist in funding businesses that are questionable, then puts them at risk for litigation too. They really don't have much of a choice. Besides, there are other ways to share Linux ISOs that don't involve sites like PutLocker.

For the year or so I mined Bitcoins and transferred USD from MTGox to Dwolla to my bank account, I had zero issues.

But I have also not had any issues with paypal. I had to file a dispute once with an eBay seller, but rightfully got a refund without issue. I guess I am the minority.

I'd say you're the silent majority, actually. I've never had issues with PayPal either. They've always been very easy to use for purchases off the Internet.

Same here, no problems with paypal... Though I only use them as a consumer, with purchases and a sale here and there. Don't keep a balance etc.

I would be hesitant to use them on a more professional level with all the horror stories from people that depend on it, freezing accounts... little communication why etc.

As a business, I guess I'd not want to mess with PayPal either, but with profits are small and easy payment options are important for sales, most companies don't really have a great deal of choice. They lose sales without PayPal so they have to endure some of the hassles concerning money. But I wonder if those problems are unique to PayPal or of major credit card companies and banks have some of the same sorts of issues.

Just keep your money buried in a coffee can in the back yard.

Coffee can comments from someone named Starrbuck...the humor doesn't escape me. :p

So true don't have personal experience in this, really good point to bring up.
