Hi all, I,m looking to upgrade my computers sound with a soundcard or usb DAC. I'd also like to be able to play my guitar through my PC speakers. Does a soundcard of DAC exist with a dedicted guitar pre amp with zero latency?

you want to look at USB audio interfaces over "sound cards" or "DACs" even though they do, do both things.

Old X-Fi Elite Pro has Hi-Z input for guitar on its breakout box. Thats what I use for my guitar. However none of the new PCIe soundcards has Hi-Z input to my knowledge, but you may find it in so called studio soundcards.

For guitar only easier and cheaper way would be to use device like this:

or this

Basically cables with small DAC device and Hi-Z instrument input, nothing else.

I do not know how above devices handle lag, but in case of soundcards you have lag with Windows 7 unless you use ASIO drivers. May require a software (like Amplitube is similar guitar software) to get it working as Windows 7 "Listen to this device" does not use ASIO. I heard XP is fine when it comes to lag even without ASIO, but dont quote me on this.
