Missing Operating System

Nothing was changed but it seems like when I was at work today my computer rebooted perhaps to finish installing windows updates?

Restarting it did nothing, I unplugged my 2 drives in raid 0/1 (not the bootup drive, crucial m4 is bootup win 7) still nothing, so I moved the drive to a different SATA connection and it booted up and said windows didn't shut down properly, I did safe mode then restarted normally just fine...and extremely fast of course.

So my 2 questions are why might this have happened? I'm going to do a couple virus / spyware scans but I didn't change anything at all.

The 2nd question is...how do I get into setup? I couldn't enter bios setup / boot menu no matter how often and when I pressed del / f11 keys to enter like the bios screen says...issue being there isn't a delay for it to register I believe. Do I have to reset bios to remove the overclock to be able to register the button pressing to enter bios since it boots too fast?

alright, it's more serious I guess

chrome had an error and crashed and had trouble reopening then the computer just had the background and I wasn't able to do anything

restart brought it to not know where bootup was, I turned computer off for a few minutes then back on and it seems fine, ran windows memory diagnostic and it had 0 errors

perhaps my crucial m4 is dying? Is there a scan I can do to check it?

will be running AVG scan next

edit: scan done, no threats

hmm what else should I try?

ran chkdsk, error found, trying to figure out how to fix it now

edit: put in win 7 cd, went to repair the installation, it found no errors so nothing was changed

will have to try other things tomorrow

completed tests on the drive, no errors found, did extended test too

did the repair in gparted...took .5 secs to do though so I don't think it did anything

perhaps it's a motherboard issue? sata going out randomly?

still happening, computer freezes up and I have to reset and upon reset it's not detecting the SSD, but when I power down and back up it will boot fine

what else should I check / look into? Power supply going bad? corsair 520hx

edit: removed one videocard to see if PSU was problem, issue still happened

I think psu is fine, so still unsure what's going on here. Possibly bad sata on the mobo? but I did try multiple ports

anyone have any more ideas? I'm thinking of doing a clean install next but everything I've done hard drive wise says it's fine

fixing OS with windows 7 disc didn't do anything
disk has no errors with Parted Magic

You mentioned a possibility of your SATA going out randomly, but far as I can tell you didn't follow that line of thought anywhere?

Try replacing your SATA cable, plugging into a new port on the motherboard, different power lead off your power supply (different line than what you currently use if possible). One at a time of course, rather than all at once. As Snowknight26 said, checking the SMART status is also a good idea.

EDIT: Reading comprehension ftw, I saw after I hit post that you did try multiple ports. I'd still suggest trying a different cable as well as a different power lead.

already tried different sata cable as well, will try different power connector next

SMART status all says Ok for health

firmware was just updated form 0009 to 000f
still had issues on startup

Have you tried getting a different HDD and installing a fresh installation of Windows to rule out any software/driver issues?

If it still continues, could be a defective motherboard or CPU.

Aside from replacing components individually, if you've checked the HDD, RAM and GPU and their connections, that's all I can think of.
