Tech Glitch Causes Huge Fireworks FAIL

Hope no one was hurt but it probably scared the crap out of them. (The ones running the fireworks, I mean.)

Did someone forget to convert seconds to minutes?

FWIW, I agree with Asacolips. Sure, it wasn't the intent, but it sure was awesome.

That poor kid at the end of the video :( - I sure hope the fireworks company and the city reschedules this (at the fireworks company's expense) if for no other reason than to make it up to that little guy...

Seems like San Diego would be the last place you would want to set off fireworks :/ Or anywhere in CA for that matter.

lol @ everyone cheering, "woo hoo! That was, uhh, awesome! I guess. Where's the rest?"

I dunno if im the minority or not but 15,30,45 minute firework displays get boring to me. That was pretty awesome right there. What I think would be awesome, especially for those bay area cities, is to setup launch areas that stretch for half a mile or more and have a display that lasts 5 minutes or maybe 10 minutes. Could also probably work for river towns like St. Louis or Chicago and maybe some towns could set up multiple launch sites around the town.

just my .2 cents.

From the look of it in some other videos, they did have 3 separate locations all going off at once.

Not just a failure in 1 location, but all 3 of them. That's an impressive failure.

hehe, if you ever wanted to see an IT epic fail..... All you little IT dudes: let this be a reminder to have rendundancy and backups at all times on all things.

Did someone forget to convert seconds to minutes?

Actually sounds plausible. 1000 = 1 second, may have forgotten it was set to ms and used s. And it took 15 seconds to cycle through the suddenly overloaded job queue.

Hey guys, sorry we were in a hurry, had to wrap up really quick....
k, by... San Diego Fireworks Co.

Fail or no, that was fricking awesome! Reminded me of volcano eruption!

since it was before the show was supposed to start, I wonder if it was a circuity test failure. Launch controllers send low voltage to all the igniters to test for continuity, wonder if it sent to much voltage, but that wouldn't explain the staggered launch. Still impressive though.

It couldnt have been a wiring failure, there were 4 barges spread all over the bay and they all failed the same way. All I can say is the barges must all be tied together with a wireless lan of some sort, I hope that shit was secure, and not by abc123 or something stupid.

Somebody didn't set their clocks to include that extra second from leap second.

I dunno, I thought that was badass myself, everyone REALLY wants to see the finale where they launch everything they have left and lets be honest most firework shows never last that long anyways like what a few minutes at most? so they cut it down to 30 seconds, you spend all the time driving there, finding parking 2 miles away, walking to a hell of crowded area, to see 5 minutes of booms... instead you get to see 30 second a MEGABOOM.

Only way that could have been a bit better is if some of the launchers were angled so it spread it out over a larger area.

I was there to see this last night... was wondering what the heck happened.

But I got to walk from where I lived to see the "show." I feel bad for everyone who paid for parking and camped out. I'll bet SD made a killing on the parking alone, and those folks feel ripped off.

since it happened in Kalifornistan I'm sure someone will sue everyone involved.
