Hi all,
Ive just returned my Dell u2711 because of the god awful anti glare coating. Was about to buy a Samsung s27a850d as a replacement, but see that theres a newer model called the s27a850t.

Anyone know for sure what the difference is?

What i read is that the S27A850d is the first version plagued with backlight bleeding while the S27A850t is the second version made with higher quality control and comes without backlight bleeding.

Ah ok, thanks for that. Hope it is, the S27a850d got some great reviews.

Problem is that the s27a850t doesnt seem to be in stock ANYWHERE in the UK :-(

Yeah, I don't see it available anywhere online or in any store. I've seen a couple of youtube unboxing videos of it from people in Australia, that's about it.

Don't forget about the S27A970 that just came out too. Updated version, glass display, etc. It's insanely expensive, but I imagine the s27a850t isn't exactly cheap either.

The 27A970 hasn't been released in all regions yet. If you can wait for a while, it may be best to see how reviews stack up. For an extra $200 or so, it may be the better deal, especially if bleed isn't a problem. And for a $1000 monitor, I'd sure hope they fixed backlight bleed...

There are also those 27" Korean IPS screens on eBay, if you are a bit of a risk taker. Or if a microcenter is near you, they have that $400 27" IPS panel (assuming they haven't sold out).

I just spoke to Samsung and asked about the difference, apparently the only difference is that the T has an HDMI port added. Not sure how accurate that is but there you go...

I'm also in the UK and looking for a S27A850T, or maybe the 850D. Looks like the T version has basically exchanged one of it's 2 DVI ports for an HDMI, but I'm sure someone mentioned that the T version also includes some 'bug fixes' - back light bleed for instance.

Have you found anywhere yet in the UK stocking the 850T? I can't find anywhere at all, unless some of the places saying they have 850D's in stock actually have 850T's and haven't updated their web pages.

Nope, not found anywhere stocking the T. Even phoned up Samsung UK HQ, but they were clueless, all they could say was that the D had been replaced by the T, but as far as they could tell apart from the ports they were the same, and they did not know who stocked it, or if it was even released in the UK (although its on their website).

But I'll keep my eyes peeled for it....

What a shambles Samsung UK are. I just came off the phone to them - a 30 minute phone call.

First, called their support number on the UK website (there isn't a sales number). The guy told me to call John Lewis, PC World etc. I explained, no, they are not out of stock - they aren't even listed and he finally gave me their head office number.

I called head office and asked for sales. It gave me 6 options, none of which were for monitors or laptops. Finally got to speak to someone who said she'd put me through to the correct department.

Got through to person number 3. She put me on hold for ages and then came back and said she had been told I was not looking on the UK website because the 850T is not for sale in the UK. I told her, no, it's on your website, and the 850D is discontinued, so the 850T must be the new model, or you don't have a 2560x1440 monitor to sell. She said she would put me through to the Executive Office - whatever that means.

Lady number 4 in Exec Office says she doesn't know anything about product availability, but understands my questions and knows who can help. Transfers me to...

Lady number 5. I explain everything again and she says she will put me through to person number 6.

Person number 6 (who is back in sales again) picks up the phone, says "Hello...hello?" and then puts the phone down.

Absolutely completely and utterly USELESS.

Is there a backlight bleeding free version for 24 inch?
Anyone knows how can I make sure I get a blb free S24A850D? Or S24A850DW?
Producing dates or something?

Anyone that have seen the coating on this monitor is able to tell if the small dots are visible or not?
I hope for a "dot"-free coating, as I can live with the slight "foggy" feeling by increasing RGB and/or brightness of the monitor.

Are you sure you didn't accidently call Dell instead? :D

I've had mine for two weeks now. I am very picky as far as AG coating is concerned. I had a U2412 and sent it back after 2 hours. The most horrible thing I've ever seen. Since I work a lot with text, hence with white backgrounds, any grain becomes very apparent.

Since I ordered my S27A850T online, without even having seen it before, I was a bit anxious about dead pixels and AG coating. I had a 19" 4:3 Samsung for 7 years that had a fantastic coating. It reduced glare very effectively without any grain whatsoever. After all I had read about today's AG coatings I wasn't expecting something as good as my old Samsung panel.

Well, the monitor arrived and I can say that I am extremely pleased with it. No grain whatsoever and no reflections! The AG coating on this panel is a thing of beauty. The whole monitor is great: great colours, great AG, sharp. I don't regret having bought it for a single second. I just wish Samsung did a 30" with this panel but unfortunately 30" seem to be getting rarer these days.

I hope I helped.

Where are you based? I can't find s27a850t anywhere. Samsung tell me the D is discontinued, but everywhere in the UK is still selling it as if it's a current model. And no-one has heard of the T.

It's very frustrating. I have been trying to buy a new monitor for ages and no-one seems to want to sell me one. Samsung here in the UK are a complete joke with their communications.

Would also be very curious to learn where you purchased the T version. I can't find it online anywhere.

I'm based in Southern Europe. I got tired of waiting for it to arrive here and I desperately needed a new monitor, since text on my old Samsung was so fuzzy it tired my eyes after a couple of hours. The only place it seemed to be readily available was Austria (go figure...). I found an online seller who had the site in German and English, a decent price and accepted Paypal. I ended up buying from these guys:

http://www.mts-shop.eu/not-categori...192018.html?XTCsid=mnmor3hfb611ajbakvna9u0cn6

All went well. It took them about 5 days to get the monitor but they kept me posted. Shipping was fast and the cost was reasonable considering how heavy the package is.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with these guys. I'm just reporting my experience as a costumer.

Note: the power supply comes with an European type plug (nothing that can't be fixed with a adapter, though).

It is targeted for professional photography only type of person and I tell you what they are worth it.

In Finland there are about 23 of these T models on sale and many more at other computer stores.

Wonder if/when they will be released/available in the US. They look like a great monitor.

I just bought the 850T and was disappointed to find only USB 2.0 on it. Apparently that is one major difference that you lose with the 850T. Does that not bother anybody? Why is it only mentioned on the Australian Cnet and nowhere else, these forums included? I appreciate any insight.
