In 2 Days, Louis C.K. Sells $4.5M In Tickets

The angry white guy bit is played out but i do support his anti Ticketmaster / anti-scalping stance.

Of course LCK made all this money because he got 100% of the ticket money.
He still has to pay the venues, and there may be additional marketing costs he has to deal with. Even if he gets 10% of what he eventually ends up grossing, though, that's very good pay for a stand-up comedian doing what isn't an altogether massive tour, comparatively speaking.

What happens though when 3000 people show up to a 1500 seating show? Considering these tickets are good for "unlimited seating" basically.

Good for him! Louis CK is a class act and actually cares about his fans.

Actually, what he cares about is money. If he had to sell through other outlets the tickets would still only be $45 but the outlets would take a cut.

Instead he generated a social media buzz that he is fucking Ticketmaster when in reality it is all about him making more money per ticket than he would have otherwise. Smart move but not for the reasons you stated.

You sure about that? I tend to think the tickets are about $15 less on average. I went to a Daniel tosh show and regular tickets were $60 each.

So? It's his work, whats wrong with him making what he thinks he deserves off of it?

I got 4 tickets at $45 a piece. They are for a specific seat, row, and section for each ticket. Don't really know what you mean by "unlimited seating." These tickets are linked to venues that have designated seating, not general admission tickets.

Louie is big enough to do this.

Listen to the other standups, and they would only dream of this.

The fact of the matter is, the venue needs a cut to stay in business,
but Ticketmaster is an unnecessary part of the equation.

Owner of building wants to host a show + artist that wants to be there = busines
relationship. Ticketmaster is simply a shill in the middle that does nothing but
drive up prices. Last show I went to was Bob & Tom's Comedy Tour, tickets were
$35 + $11 in fee's per seat. All of which went to Ticketbastard

From what I've heard he had a hell of a time securing the venues, because TM threatened to pull other shows if they ran his act. Sucks when someone pokes a giant hole in your business model. :)

fuck ticketmaster for doing that. that's anticompetitive.

louis ck's cut of this should be a cool $1 million. Not bad for 30 something showings.

Umm wrong. Without Ticketmaster to advertise for him he had to use social media to get out the word , not because he is trying to make money on his own. He posted a break down of how he spread the money he earned from selling his audio performance of a live show he recorded. Seriously doubt Louis is out for a massive money grab from his fans.

You obviously don't understand just how much of a monopoly Ticketmaster has , its so fucking powerful that often enough the mere threat of Ticketmaster blacklisting you will often be enough. Its bullshit , Louis has enough balls to call it that and offer fans a FLAT RATE ticket.

The point remains that he makes more money for himself if he doesn't go with Ticketmaster. He doesn't do it because he loves you. He doesn't do it because he wants to stick it to the man. He does it for money. Nothing wrong with that, I would do the same thing, but don't think he does it because of some consideration other than money.

So he should pay a monopoly instead of himself , the guy who actually does the majority of the work just because he'll get richer from it? Of course he does it for the money. But that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a larger piece of the pie for the lions share of the work. Ticketmaster only acts as a middle man and they take a large cut.

Amazing logic

Ticketmaster did it to themselves. Between Pearl Jam, Louis C.K. and a few others, this is a shot across there bow. I would have loved to see him. Haven't in a long time.

Fans = money. He is a hard working and funny guy, I'm glad to see him do well.

Had you bothered to read my post, or perhaps you were just unable to comprehend what I wrote, then you would have noticed that I at no time said that he should pay TM or that he doesn't deserve the money.

My argument remains that he doesn't do it out of love for you or out of hate for the man, he does it to pocket more money. I specifically stated that there is nothing wrong with that.

So ..., it's a bit unclear how you after reading what I wrote ended up writing what you did because as far as a reply goes yours makes no sense at all.

You nailed it , must have been a lack of comprehension , that's it alright.

No one even implied he did it because he just fucking lives and dies by his fans. Not sure why you are even restating that. He also kind of did it TOO stick it to the man (or in this case ticket monopolies like Ticketmaster) but ultimately yes we get it , he did it for the money as well which was his primary intention and it was all possible because of social media and ultimately the internet.

Confusion cleared up? Great.

Glad to see a performer give a

to Ticketmaster.

I guess I'm a bit unclear as to how you know this. Suffice it to say, I can live as comfortable a life as I like for the most part, and I do stuff all of the time that would be considered non-profitable just because I think it would be interesting. I don't know Louis from a hole in the ground, but I would have to imagine there's a "can I really do this" and "let's see what happens" factor going on here too. Not just a "hey I can make a shitload of money", there are a lot of other motivations out there, particularly when you already have a shitload of money.

If you actually bothered to read up on him, or his recent "test run" with this style of direct-to-the-customer sales you'd see that with his last one (selling his stand up act for just 5 bucks) he ended up donating a LOT of money to charity PLUS giving a huge bonus to the people that work for him. He didn't simply "pocket the money."

Yes he makes more money himself this way, but he ALSO does give a shit about the fans and passes on some of hte savings to them doing it this way, that's why so many people have bought both his stand up special and tickets this way.

I also remember this news. It's too bad that I don't use paypal, I'd join in on this.

Obviously you know nothing about Louie CK, or have cared to go to his website and read some of his reasons.

He wants it to be accessible and affordable to people who want content.

Money is a motivator, but he could care less. As long as he makes enough to live on, pays the people involved in the process, and donates a portion, he's all good!

You don't hear about that from other "popular" comedians.

Damn... I was going to buy tickets for the Saint Louis show... it's on my little brothers wedding day though :(

How the hell is that legal? It fits the textbook definition of anti-competitive business.

I tried getting tickets to the St Louis show, but it said they didn't have that many seats adjacent to each other. All four Chicago shows are sold out too :(

Good for him, I am glad it is working out!

2 seats 5th row in Tampa.

so.. support Louis with this effort! screw the man, I say!
