Does anyone know if any of the i3 3'rd generation core chips will have HD 4000 graphics or is that only available for i5 and i7?

There is one i3 that has HD 4000 graphics, as lsun22 stated. However, according to that same link, none of the i3s have PCI-e 3.0 support: Add-in cards will simply operate in PCI-e 2.0 mode.

Were the new IB i3 CPUs not meant to be released today? I don't see any news about it..

Interested in the i3-3225 myself (as it has HD4000).

It is being released to computer OEMs. No retail boxed SKUs have been released yet.

Ah damnit :( What's with Intel taking their time with the i3s and AMD taking their time with Trinity desktop. Sucks to be the consumer.

I agree. Why the delay with the i3 line?

Why do they need to rush? It's not like they have any competition or glaring gaps in their present offerings, I guess we need to get used to Intel setting the pace.

So basically the same thing nVidia is doing with the GTX660. It's ready to go, but they have to empty out the inventory of GTX 560 Ti and GTX 570, as the newer part makes the older part pointless. This annoyingly makes sense from a business perspective. I've been pining to upgrade my media PC (from a Phenom II 955 + Radeon 6850) to an Ivy Bridge i3 and GTX660....

Was thinking of waiting to see how the i3 with the 4000 performs, but I got tired of waiting and got a NIB i5 3570k off the forums yesterday for a decent price...well it's not in my possession yet, but soon, soon.

Between the additional time I get to use it and the additional performance of the 3570k I figure it's worth the extra price I paid. It's harder to make the call at the full retail price of $230 though.

And this is news *why*?

I pointed out that even with Sandy Bridge that i3 was getting short shrift - if anything, I expected the dual-core screwing-over to continue with Ivy Bridge - if not get even worse.

As it stands today, while i3-2100 remains at $90USD (MicroCenter), twice that gets you your choice of unlocked quad-core - i5-2500K is $USD170, and i5-3570K is $190.

I would, in fact, be surprised to see dual-core Ivies in retail packaging *at all*.

We'll see them.

It's just that the complete Sandy Bridge dual-core line (i3 + Pentium) has been out less than a year at this point. It would be silly of Intel to release the replacements to the retail market until they sold-off their existing inventory.

Delivering only to OEMs for now allows them to quietly ramp-up product in the channel. They will release it officially when they have enough demand.

That is, in fact, why I doubt we'll see them soon (except *maybe* the Ivy-based Gs).

The retail price gap between i3 and K-series simply is too narrow - even worse for i3, the G series is pressuring it from the other end.

Note that nobody has compared i3 vs. i5-K (bone stock, mind you) or compared i3 to i5 of any sort, even with applications tilted in i3's favor (applications that use HTT). There's a reason for that; I'll let you ruminate on what it is.

i3 (whether Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge) is in poor (and getting poorer) retail field position; if anything, it will get worse before it gets better.
