In need of a bit more space so I'm upgrading my 128GB M4. I can currently get a 256GB M4 or Samsung 830 within £5 of each other...

Which would the [H]ard community suggest, and why?

M4 - not reliable
830 - MUCH better write speeds

Have both, prefer the Samsung.

What issues have you guys had with the M4? Granted I don't beat on mine (64GB as a boot drive in a vm server) but I haven't had any issues.

TBH, the only SSDs I've had reliability issues with were Intels X25M G2 drives. Never touched sandforce for obvious reasons and I've been very happy with the M4. I heard great things about Samsungs 830 drives when I was shopping for my last one, but they were significantly more then the M4s.

But enough responses for the Samsung above, couple with plenty of glowing reviews... I'll go with that!

Thanks for the responses.

Easy choice if the difference is only £5, Samsung 830.

edit: out of interest where are you buying it from, I'm also thinking of picking up one of those :)

i have two m4's, one in my laptop and one in my gamer. i haven't had one issue with either of them, but i would still buy at 830 if i was buying today. the 830 is faster then the m4.

M4 is £150 at AriaPC with free shipping
830 is £145 at Novatech and I live right around the corner, so no shipping.

99% of us will not notice the speed difference, so would go with the tried and true M4.
