if you could design your own mouse

The mouse is such a basic design that has been built on over the years. I am curious what features people would want on their mouse if they could customize it. What would be your ideal mouse or perfect design?

Oh shoot...it's been done already...

:p

I think I'd like a proper middle mouse button back like they used to have in the 90s... in addition to the scrollwheel doubling as one.

intellimouse 1.1 with braided cable, 1000hz, and a fancy led display on the bottom, owait steelseries.....

Still using the mouse... it's basically perfect. Only problem is that the scroll wheel totally fucks up after a few months of use. Searching on buying / support sites ... tons of people report this.

I need to get on the hunt for a more perfect mouse  :(

There are so many different choices of gaming mice out on the market right now, even the things people want most companies are coming through with while also adding lots of features many may never use.

The Zowie EC2 is the best thing I've put my hands on and really I can't ask for anymore. It has a fantastic optical sensor, lightweight, easily flexible cable, driverless and 1000hz out of the box. But other things that stand out about it are just the feel of the buttons (mainly side buttons even though I never use them really, they are unlike any other mouse I've owned and actually feel like a real click) and also the scroll wheel, while smooth and free flowing, has solid notches giving it just that right feel. I'd buy this over and over again but I'd also welcome try out the same thing but with a slightly changed shape maybe similar to the Steelseries Kinzu to give ambidextrous designs a try.

But most important to me is a good sensor, quick mouse feet (use Teflon if it doesn't already come with it), slightly smaller shape, and death adder design. No weights, or extra gimmicks, just a straight up simple and ready to go mouse!

Really? I've had 3 DA's and none of them have ever had an issue with the scroll wheel.

The Mouseman Wheel M-CW47. This was by far the most comfortable mouse ever made. Logitech needs to bring back that design. All it needs is to be updated to an optical design.

Do you do a lot of middle clicking? Some people use this as a reason for it breaking, but I don't know for sure if it's the real cause.

I open links into new tabs, close tabs, close programs on the taskbar, quickly scroll up and down a page, and use it in some games, all with middle click.

I agree the MX518 is a solid mouse, but it can't even begin to compete with modern gaming mice like the Razer Lachesis, CM Storm Spawn, Steelseries Sensei, etc for precision and control. I'm glad if it works for you, but for those who game extensively it really isn't sufficient if you want to stay competitive anymore.

Pretty much the Logitech G5. It's still the most comfortable I've ever used and I have no intention of replacing it until it finally implodes or there has been a massive paradigm shift in input devices. And, at this rate, it will be the second that will happen first.

I'd like a good corded Logitec mouse like the MX518 I had, the G400 or something I have now, etc. with three buttons plus a wheel. Yeah, I'm a UNIX user.

I want an Avago 3090 sensor but with non-interpolated C.P.I. settings, such as the Razer Lachesis.
I am not sure about the body . . .
