Achieva Shimian QH270| $400 IPS 2560x1440 Korean Monitor

Well I ordered a new Achieva IPSB 27"...

Although came someone clarify this and correct me if I was mistaken all along. The IPSB model I thought was suppose to have some sort of edge to edge glossy glass over the front of the panel like the Apple displays. (Dad has Imac, and I was under the impression it would be like that).

All the Shimian Achievas use the same bezel. Yours looks like mine (ie. exactly as it should). If you got one with glass, the glass is between the bezel and the panel, I believe.

Well, I'm convinced otherwise... This looks like the IPSI model and not IPSB... Every picture from earlier shows a glass that from edge to edge in this thread and from other forums, anyone else?

I think you should just try it out. I got one and thought I was getting model with glass and speakers but the model with speakers does not have glass. Anyway I'm glad mine doesn't have the glass. It has significantly less glare than the imac 21.5 I just sold. I used the imac for the last several months without the glass because the glare was so bad. It is perfect without the glass. This monitor is exactly the same as the imac without the glass. You still get the gloss without the excessive glare.

Yes, there is a model with glass. It's what I got. As for if it's IPSB I'm not certain. That said, I wouldn't recommend getting the glass anyway, as it just adds more glare (the panel itself is glossy but the glass adds even more) and many have reported dust stuck between the glass and panel. I had some dust but it fell down to the bottom after a little jostling. Others have not been so lucky.

Well, first off I paid extra for the glass. If I wasn't sent the right monitor can I complain without having to pay a $120 or whatever shipping return fee?

Also as for all those mentioning about the dust behind the glass. I looked up ways to open the monitor incase that ever became a problem. But really in the end I had my heart set on one thing and I was sent another from the looks of it. Does anyone know if I'm correct or am I completely mistaken and making a fuss about nothing?

If I buy this monitor. Would it work in the us? Do I need to buy an adapter for the power brick? If so, which one? Thanks. Been reading for the last hour and cannot find the answer.

Can you possibly link the direct link to the ebay auction?
Here I forgot to link it.
I asked if they have a model with only the single input and they said no, I don't need a OSD or another input so I would rather not pay for it.

Huh, the UK Hazro rebrand just had smooth cheap plastic.

Oh well. Looks the best in pictures, not so much in person.

Did you buy the IPSB model? You received the newer IPSI model and not the IPSB model. The IPSB model does indeed have a glass sheet OVER the bezel.

That's what the IPSB is supposed to look like, so it seems you didn't get that one. You probably got the IPSI, which still has glass, but it's inside the bezel, closer to the actual screen, leaving less room for dust to get stuck inside.

Another sign that you have the IPSI is the fact that the bezel has that brushed metal texture, which I believe is only on the IPSI models at the moment.

You don't want the IPSB anyway, with the Hazro brand, the glass started slipping off a few months later.

Update:

dream-seller has accepted my request for a return but I can't find any shipping companies to ship it back at a reasonable price in the UK.

I originally asked for a replacement and asked whether or not it would be checked and dream-seller said they can check the monitor before sending if I want a replacement, but now I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle as I'll need to pay customs again, may have to wait 3 weeks ago and face the risk of getting a bad monitor again...

What do you guys reckon?

Try contacting dreamseller and telling him you will pay for shipping with his account. He might be able to get much better rates for shipping. It is definitely unfair that there can be such a huge difference in shipping rates between people.

Other than that you should contact ebay or someone and state that you are extremely unhappy and they might tell dream seller he needs to do more. Basically file a dispute and say the guys sent you garbage that clearly was not functioning and is essentially DOA and he needs to fix it.

The final option to try would be to tell dream seller your situation and state you are willing to do something about having him ship you another monitor at a discounted price.

Well dream-seller has already offered to pay for shipping back, so I think he's done enough. I've asked him for recommendations but clearly he's unable to pick up the monitor from me himself, otherwise he wouldn't have asked for me to find the cheapest courier myself.

Thanks for your help though but it really seems I'm stuck on this one.

Guess I just lost out on the monitor lottery. Whilst the gains from the lottery are great, I'm not much of a gambler and after losing I prefer to give up and call quits.

Which monoprice mount are you referring to exactly?

This one which I'm returning. Also this one which I'm only keeping since I don't feel like pulling the display apart to put the stock stand back in. Neither one can really handle the weight of the display and I doubt that they would do that much better with a 23". The articulating mount will only sit level in one spot as soon as you move it it'll go right out of whack.

Yes I bought the IPSB model specifically, it shows even on the box and the back of the screen that it is called an IPSB... So I don't know what happened there?

Also the sticker was ripped like that and everything out of the box- super fishy...

I think there may have been too many returns due to dust problems so they made this newer model to replace the older IPSB and didn't make new boxes for it and just reused the same labels? Pure speculation here though.

Well, whatever the case, is there any sort of complaint I can make? Since this isn't technically the order I set, could I ask for some small partial refund or something? I'm also worried that since it may not be labeled correctly that my warranty I bought through square-trade could be void...

You could email the seller and see what they say but it looks like you got the new updated model.

QH270-IPSB model and QH270-IPSI model has a tempered glass.

QH270-IPSB : outside glass model.
QH270-IPSI : Inside glass model.

I guess I missed the point, if he offered to pay return shipping then ship it back. It seems like your problem is more with import duties. In which case I would think you should be able to get those back if you can show you are returning something. I highly doubt you will get another bad one so I would definitely send it back, dream seller has been moving many of these units without problem.

Yup I also noticed I can claim back for import duties for defective goods. I'm still deciding if it's worth the risk because the monitor does look awesome! But shipping it back and waiting for some more time isn't.

I just ordered 2 of these, with the glass. Plan on mounting them on a sturdy VESA arm. Also ordered a GTX670 to drive them. Happy Father's Day to me!

I've been scouring this thread for pics of setup monitors, has no one posted any yet? Just want to get an idea of what they really look like, and not just their generic promo shots..

Just go to overclock.net for pics of various monitors.

I think I asked this before but I didn't get an answer. What is the different between Achieva Shimian and Yamkasi monitors? Is it the 120Hz overclock? Any differences in panel quality?

2B Catleaps sold on 120hz.net can go to 120hz. The only difference between eBay catleaps (non-2B) and shimians is price, bezel, and stand. They use the same panel. Shimians are usually cheaper, and are thought to have a slightly better stand and offer a tempered glass option if that is your fancy.

same internal panel.
outside casing different.

unless you specifically buy a second hand panel listed as 120hz capable, or buy one from 120hz.net, your panel will NOT hit 120hz no matter what you get.

100% you get "IPSI" model inside tempered glass not "IPSB" outside tempered glass like apple cinema display.you must complaint to seller about it
my opinion:This is the fault of ACHIEVA why give "IPSI" model with "IPSB" box and sticker

this sampel "IPSB" model outside tempered glass have notice GLASS BY ASAHI lower left corner

I saw the Auria version today at MicroCenter. It looked blah to me, with the other diplay monitors having better colors etc. Maybe this was becaue it was in a lower resolution - the PC hooked to it could do no higher than 1920X1080.

You need to see it at 2560x1440. The lower resolutions don't it do justice. the glossy 1440p LG panels are awesome.

Ya that has always been a huge complaint I have of B&M shops. They love to supply monitors with the wrong resolution and let the scalers butcher it. It essentially makes them useless for checking things out. I used to like my local compusa because they would let me hook up monitors to a computer and set the correct resolution and mess with it.

The other thing you need to watch out for is the fact alot of cheapo TN and other displays come default with unreal settings in brightness and contrast and that looks better in a highly lit public place but will fall apart when you bring it home.

I must state I have not seen this display in person yet, still need to get over to my semi local MC.

This. Depending what you were comparing it too, the other monitors probably just have the brightness/contrast/saturation jacked up out of the box. With an IPS monitor having "more accurate" colors, it could certainly appear less vivid in comparison. Spend some time with it and the difference should be obvious, or maybe it depends on one's definition of "better..."

As others mentioned, you can't judge a monitor's value when you're looking at it outside of its native res.
