Just out of curiosity what makes these so expensive? I mean, you can get an Intel 330 60GB off of Newegg right now for like $70...25nm synchronous storage with 500MB read/write...reviews point to it being true Intel quality through and through as well.

Not trying to thread crap or anything, just interested how a 3 year old SSD can be so expensive!

Synchronous vs asynchronous only determines one aspect of performance. Every consumer drive you can think of, and about half of all enterprise drives, use MLC (multi level cell) flash, meaning each cell in the die has four or more possible states. It's slightly lower performance, but more importantly, it's orders of magnitude less durable than SLC (single-level, meaning single cell=single bit: 0/1), which these drives use.
 
Agreed--best description I've heard yet (had some questions PMed as well).
