There is no such thing as the best Android, or best phone, or best anything.

What is best depends on your individual needs. everything involves a tradeoff.

If you get a larger screen, or faster processor, you'll likely have shorter battery life. while this may be better for some, it's going to be worse for others.

"best" is a too generic and pretty much meaningless word. There is never a best.

There is a fastest, or a smallest or a largest screen, or a lightest, or a longest battery life, etc. etc.

For me my priorities were:
- as few as possible carrier/handset modifications to the OS
- rootable
- fast

For me thus the Galaxy nexus is probably still the best device, but for you, this might be something completely different.

So what are your needs?

meh...i don't read too much into that, the community at large will do what they want regardless

We'll see. Samsung has been one of the few to pretty easy on us when it comes to customizing our phones and I'm hoping they stay that way.

Now if Apple would just get off their fucking high horse and realize iOS ain't shit anymore.

Also, I did call Verizon. I didn't push for the SGS3 yet because of what I was told for the second time. According to the techs on the phone Verizon's website is wrong and those with grandfathered plans will not lose them if you buy a subsidized phone in the future. Need to make a few more calls to see who's misinformed or lying.

If you're waiting for 6/30 the HTC EVO 4G just came out for sprint. Not sure if/when it's coming out for Verizon.

I just noticed that VM is offering the Evo 4G as well on their $35-$55 (300min/unlimited minutes) "unlimited" data plans as well.

The "unlimited" data is 2.5GB at full 4G for normal plans, $15 extra gives you an extra GB at full speed plus tethering ability.

Being that I don't use a ton of video or other high bandwith apps, I'm not worried about the data limits. $35/mo is almost too good to pass up.

Well, what is important to you?

If battery life is very important to you, I hear good things about the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, but then modding will be more limited, as Motorola locks their boot loaders.

If having a HUGE screen is important to you, look at the Samsung Galaxy Note

If modding and software freedom is your main concern, it's tough to beat the Samsung Galaxy Nexus

If having the latest, greatest hardware is more important, then the Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X should be on your list.

If you are in a market where it is available, and you want to try something different, Orange's Intel Medfield based phone looks interesting. It seems to score particularly well in web Browsing, and that's even before its ICS upgrade which should boost that score a lot.

Personally I am torn between the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3. I feel the GNexus will be easier to mod and play with, but that the S3 is faster, has a bigger screen, longer battery life, sim card slot and replaceable battery. I'm thinking I can probably do most if not all of the modding I am interested in with the S3 as well, it just may be a more convoluted process. because of this I am leaning towards the S3, but I am not sure yet. I have a few weeks to make up my mind.

Most importantly, go to a store and test them out an play with them to make sure you like what you are getting.

Thanks for your information, After reading your information I am very happy because I have decided to buy the Galaxy S3 but I have one problem. I don't know its net price? So Please would you give me the its net price? I am waiting for your reply on this thread.

The unlocked GSM version is around $750. With contract they are around $200-$250.

I'm not sure where you found on Verizon's site that we would lose our grandfathered plan by pre-ordering. When I pre-ordered, I was given the option to keep mine.

Not sure how you haven't heard about this yet since it was a huge deal back in mid-May when it was announced.

It's quite easy to explain why you had the option to keep your unlimited data: the new data plans are not in effect yet. It goes into effect sometime this summer and I would not be surprised to see it happen with the actual release of the SGS3.

Just did the GSIII upgrade myself and keeping unlimited was a non-issue. I even asked the rep about the shared data plans and they said basically yes shared data is coming but that the part about losing unlimited data is still up in the air.

On a side note, I would like to see the preorder numbers for the US launch of the GSIII. It was already crazy big in Europe.

Nexus-Four running Android 5.0 Jellybean, due out Nov 5th.

End of thread now :)

If you in market for a new phone, no reason to buy anything right now, just wait a few short months for the best Android device of 2012, it will be well worth the wait, especially if you keep your phone for 2yrs. I rather be stuck with a Jellybean phone for 2yrs, than an old ICS

I hear ya, but I've been waiting to upgrade since December (when I was eligible for an AT&T equipment upgrade) so my 2 year commitment would expire and I could ditch AT&T.

At this point, November 5th might as well be 12 years away...

I guess my point is, there is always going to be something new on the horizon. When November 5th comes along, why not wait for the next thing after that? The logical conclusion of this mindset is that you just keep waiting forever, and never wind up getting anything.

A few weeks to a month, I would wait. Maybe even two months, but above that, its just not worth it.

Especially since the only way to get the most for your money out of the cellphone carriers is to upgrade as soon as you are eligible and sell your old handset.

I may wind up with a Galaxy S3, but you can be assured that there will be no running of obsolete software on it. As soon as 3rd party ROM's are available, it will be going to custom software, and be kept up to date whether Samsung decides to upgrade it or not.

I was under the impression that Jellybean was 4.1 and would be released over the summer with the Nexus Tablet. And let's face it...with the Nexus, you're never "stuck" with any ROM if you have basic computer skills.

Another case of Zorachus crying wolf? :p

Personally, I don't see the "big" difference between the Nexus and the GS3 at this point, especially since the US version of the GS3 is dual core instead of quad. I have a Nexus and don't see any reason to move right away. I'm thinking that Nexus 4 that Zorachus will tell us about for the next 6 months is probably my next phone.

Meh, by the time that's a viable option I'll be well into my upgrade cycle and by the time I want one the bugs will have had time to work themselves out and development will be in full swing.

The processor architecture is much improved in the S4

Ok if you need a new Android phone right now today, I would recommend #1 the Unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus from the Play/Market store, and activate on a pre-paid no commitment no contract plan.

Or #2 the HTC -One X, that is a very nice phone too.

The Galaxy S III is not officially available yet for the U.S.

Important caveat for the Galaxy Nexus: it has a tiny 16GB of non-expandable storage, shared between the ROM, downloaded apps, and any files the user puts on the phone, so if you have a decent set of media you want to take with you, you're basically SOL.

Unless you have the Verizon Nexus which is 32GB.

Not sure what the other US carriers are using. Not sure if it is an LTE issue or not. Might be a battery issue with LTE.

True, what can I say... I'm still furious over the 32GB GSM version being cancelled..... why Google didn't want my money (and many other GSM users in the US and around the world), I'll never know....

LTE issue.

Verizon version is the dual-core S4 with 2GB RAM. quad-core Exynos version is 1GB RAM.

Feels like the US for once didn't get the shaft and actually has the superior models, with the next gen CPU cores and the double RAM.... color me shocked...

I had heard of it, sorry, missed the future bit in your comment. From the rumors I've heard, they are planning to make that switch 7/7, 2 days prior to the SGS3; but if you pre-order it before then, you will be fine to be grandfathered in.

For the time being, I wouldn't be surprised if this dual core significantly outperforms the quad core version, AND has longer battery life...

The GS3 is obviously the "latest" in terms of release date.

I'd say it was a toss up between the Galaxy Nexus, the Galaxy S3, and the Razr Maxx.

I have a Galaxy Nexus on verizon - highly modified with my own roms/tweaks/charging system (yay induction) It's a huge upgrade from my Evo4G on sprint - but despite the latest updates I still feel sometimes the radio issues with this phone will never be solved.

I'm locked into a contract with Verizon till 2014 - so I can't really upgrade or sidegrade on the cheap. If the Razr Maxx had official ice cream sammich support from google i'd be UBER tempted to change phones.

Battery life and signal issues knock the Galaxy Nexus down a peg or two in the grand scheme of things. I'm still overall happy though.

Droid Razr HD appears to be using the same package as the GSIII

http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/09/droid-razr-hd-shows-off-snapdragon-s4/

but the GSIII is far more valuable to me. development should be multitudes stronger than on a Motorola device, plus I much prefer the capacitive buttons on the GSIII to the on screen buttons on phones like the Nexus.....don't waste valuable screen real-estate on a black background and shapes for buttons....that's screen abuse

I'm not familiar. What are the signal issues on the Galaxy Nexus?

There was a lot of talk about the 4.0.3 rom and firmware giving odd behavior or dropping out anytime you would transition from 3g<->4G or things like that.

I get great 4G reception when out on the road - but I've found the phones overall reception to be lackluster when indoors even when close to verizon towers.

Supposedly the 4.0.4 and 4.0.5 rollouts resolved this signal issue -- personally I've noticed no difference. If I had money to burn I'd love to pick up a Razr Maxx and test side by side in my area (DFW, TX)

Summing it up - Verizon said it was a software problem, but who knows. I tend to not trust excuses from any major company as it's always been spun one way or another.

The software updates haven't fixed my problem- on LTE the radio (not the phone) randomly crashes and reboots, and tends to do so when you're actively consuming data. Switching to 3G only is a partial fix, but the phone is still not without signal and drop issues even while in this mode. It's really really annoying. I'm getting either the S3 or Razr HD when it comes out. Clearly the CDMA version of the Nexus was the redheaded stepchild of the Google progeny.

Is this with stock firmware, or 3rd party?

Ok thanks for your information, I have read your deal. I really like it very much and I really want to buy the unlock GSM version. I am agree with your deal. I go to the contract deal but I don't know it's contract deal. So would you tell me it's contract details?
