diablo 3 accounts hacked

I think Banks accepted the fact that they will be hacked and your info will be stolen and used. Which is why the Federal Gov as increased the old 100K to 250K protection.
If some one steals you info a purchases a bunch of shit..Well thats a Federal Crime.
The victim will get all of his money back of course will need to jump some hoops but you will get all of your stolen money.

A Federal Crime will have a shit storm of consenquenses which will make
your head spin faster than the wheels of your schwinn bicycle.

When is comes to the AH, well read the agreement!
You are giving up all of your rights and if that info is stolen
well it becomes your problem, which becomes the bank's problem.

Check out the agreement! You will need about 12 lawyers to full
understand it. Besically they own you and your information and
you can't do shit about it!

The "protection" you are talking is FDIC insurance which has nothing to do with your information getting stolen. That only applies if the bank goes under.

I don't know why people are acting like Blizzard is doing anything crazy with an authenticator. I've had 2-step verification on my bank account for two years now.

But an issue does arise when they now have CC and Bank/PP accounts linked to 'game' accounts.

The issue is, Blizzard should step up security as hacking has been an issue since WoW. Adding a RMAH is only going to make it worse.

Agreed. I hope they require an authenticator to use this feature.

It amazes me how Blizzard fans think their servers are not susceptible to hacking when banks and big companies get hacked all the time. The constant can't be Blizzard must be you is getting pathetic...just look around on the Internet, jeeezz....in these forums alone your getting new people posting daily about being hacked and everything stolen?

I'm not saying who is @ fault here. If my posts have come across like that... Sorry. What i'm trying to say is that people should go the route of an authenticator. Also.. Not everything is being taken on the diablo accounts where everything is being taken on WoW. It's different.

Also unlike the banks.. Blizzard is fully aware and publicly admits to the fact that accounts are getting hacked but to this date there is no evidence that suggest the comprise was on blizzard's end. The fact that the company has moved in the direction of offering more security features for the customer might help with the line of thinking "its on the customers end".

Again.. Nothing is hack proof. But i do trust what the company is saying here. There the one with the logs. And when do you as they suggest (like i have and many others) by adding an authenticator and setting it to ask every time for the code... You don't have issues.

Definitely get an authenticator. Prompting for the code at every login is like peace of mind. You would be fine if you decided to just do it once a week. But I only say that because if it recognizes the login from another computer it will request a code.

My GF has it like that and has never been hacked. She's had a physical authenticator since they were released.

Everybody says those who claim to have been hacked with authenticators are lying, so it's possible we don't really know if they stop all attacks or not. Blizzard says no accounts with authenticators have been compromised, but if your stuff was stolen the same way mine was Blizzard will tell you no one illegitimately accessed your account at all. If there is no evidence you were hacked and you have an authenticator, would they say the authenticator failed (something 10 million people might have) or that you were never hacked? They basically told me I wasn't hacked at all, and that someone I lived with must have turned my machine on minutes after I shut down, and stolen all my stuff. I sleep 6 feet from my computer... and I was easily awake for 20 minutes after I turned my machine off.

Since they didn't have to log in to hijack my stuff I'm not sure if the keyfob would have worked or not. You mentioned it, they don't seem to have access to everything. Only your last played char, and your first stash page. It's very Bizarre. If Blizzard can't see that the access happened, and they didn't actually log in to hijack my stuff, would the authenticator have had a chance to stop it?

I wish I'd had one so I could provide an answer but honestly I haven't played WoW or anything so I didn't know they existed until I visited the tech support page. It's really dumb they don't have an IP e-mail authentication like banking sites do so everyone without a huge cell phone bill could have one instantly.

I don't know if the problem is on their "end". It sorta seems like someone might be intercepting the client communication and taking over for you while you play or when you log out, which might indicate the client software is where the hole is, not the server. Still Blizzards stuff, but not on their end of the communication. It's entirely possible authenticators prevent whatever it is from happening, but that doesn't mean Blizzard shouldn't be fixing it.

Wouldn't the transmission of your login data/auth code be encrypted?

Clearly... You deleted your stuff while asleep. :p

Do you let your computer on 24/7?

My original thought was ninjas, but I can't sleep while it's running so that theory went out the window. I always have to shut it off unless I drug myself with benadryl or something.

well your theory of ninjas might still stand. Your stuff was ninja-ed after all... right? :D

Never got hacked in any other MMO game I've played. Never got hacked in any other DRM online required game I've played.

Clearly I'm lying about using an authenticator because I love slandering Blizzard

The usual response for people who've been hacked with authenticators is just sad.

Sorry I'm confused. Are you saying you've been hacked while having an authenticator?

and if so... What type of authenticator were you using?

Does anyone know how long Blizztard takes to respond to tickets created on their website. I just want my refund and my account deleted.

Should I just call them up...I'm afraid they might accuse me of being keylogged and I'm gonna have to go beast mode on em.

Why be an asshole to some poor guy/girl just working phones? Why not just polite and ask for what you want?

I never understood this. I would be way less likely to help an asshole. I might even hang up if they were belligerent. I think that's a policy most places have too.

I know the Android App is free.

I think the others are not free!

Apps for mobile phones are free and available for both Android and Apple.

There is a separate token hardware that you can buy if you can'/choose not to use the free phone app.

At best, I would bet they are using some kind of public/private key combo and the hackers have figured out the keys. At worst, no and they are relying on RSA via the authenticator.

Took them about 8hrs to get back to me after initially sending in the ticket. That was on 5/25 that the ticket was acknowledged. I accidently hit "Ticket Resolved" in my rush to finish packing for camping and didn't realize it until last night when I went to get on and nothing had happened. So reopened the ticket last night around 7ish and still have not seen that the rollback has completed.

There is likely no connection; but a few days after my account was hacked the same credit card that was on file was also used to by 2 $800 escorts...... Luckily wellsfargo flagged the purchase and locked the credit card.

But just imagine if they were connected....That dude would have a ton of Diablo 3 gold and Items and some high class prostitutes.....ok maybe 800 bucks is about mid range in the whore world but still he is living the life.

can someone please make something clear to me?

has anyone been hacked with the authenticator on?

I would like to know so that I can determine if i'm going to continue playing this game or not.

too our's and blizzard's knowledge. No

There seem to be random reports of accounts with authenticators being hacked, but they are VERY few and far between.

The guys tried access my account the day after they hacked it as every time I would go to log into the Battlenet website I would get a "to many failed attempts" error, then log in with my password and authenticator and be good to go. That has since stopped.

"Currently our phone queue is full. Please try your call again at a later time." <click>

42 minute wait time now...

Well, the truth is that blizzard says there haven't been, and you don't believe any of the people that say they have.

What complicates it a bit is that a majority of the people that say they have lost stuff with an authenticator(that I've seen) claim that blizzard says the account wasn't accessed by anyone else. So either all those people are making it up, there's another issue(db/server), or they are getting hacked by some undetected means.

I lean toward their being something else strange going on, but I don't think everyone is making it up.

People will believe if credible evidence is provided.

And that's a completely different scenario. That's not what's happening here.

Someone still got enough information by other means to be able to do that. I don't know exactly what they need however. I've never done extensive testing or much to see what is needed to login. I can't even remember off the top of my head if it prompts you for an authenticator when you log into the battle.net website. I bet it does though.

The only thing on your scenario that I can say is it would be nice if Blizzard kept ticket records so they could see "okay so and so called in on may 15th and had the authenticator removed/changed/etc."

Not sure if they do or not as I've never asked or hear either way.

Also, Wrath came out almost 4 years ago. So a lot could've changed in Blizz security. Looks like the token was released about June of 2008, Wrath in Nov of that year. So it's very possible that in the year or so following that, even shorter, they could've made a bunch of changes to their systems and security policies. Know what I mean?

Actually, I went back and looked through my email and it was after cataclysm came out that it was accessed. It seemed like a lot longer since I played it.

I'm not sure if today/tonight would be the best day to call their support team. It seems that most of battle.net game logins are down after the patches/maintenance today. So you are fighting for time with probably thousands of unhappy customers.

Yea I don't know...the automated message on the queue said 42 minutes wait time ..it's now over an hour. Fucking Blizztard sucks at everything....about 20 minutes ago their support website was even down.

Finally on the phone with someone.

Hahahahaha predictably he tried to sell me the whole it's my fault/my pc must be compromised thing....I said NO this has gotten to serious for me...so now the 5-10 business day wait for the refund to process.

Grats on getting your refund started, but given that you didn't have an authenticator it's hardly surprising they brought that pc compromise topic up.

I have had 3 friends so far that have been compromised WITH an authenticator in the last 2 days. I added the mobile authenticator for mine, but I feel the authenticator is just putting the speed bump in front of the truck. It wont stop it, only make it wince as it runs over it.

Well.. Every Tuesday is a patch / update day for everything blizzard. They have been doing this for years and is by no means a new business practice.

It's funny (kinda sad really) that you feel a phone system's predicated wait time, there site being down (even though it was advertised it was going down), means they suck at everything. Way to have a very narrow view on a company. Perhaps we should all forget about start craft and world of Warcraft.

I would like to try and point out a positive though. If you think about it... You just got paid close to $60.00 for an hour worth of "work".

LOL...yeah, phone wait times are their only issues.

With all that's going on I still see Blizzardites defending one craptastic issue after another...wow

I need more detail. I need know how long they've had it. What kind of losses did they experience? What did Blizzard say in regard to their claims?

You people keep leaving out important details like it doesn't matter. And I'm meant to sit here and believe your every word.

I'm not really in a defensive position. I'm just a reasonable person.

That makes no sense. Have you never returned a product before? Never asked for a refund? If you aren't happy with a purchase, you should have the right to return. I don't consider returning something as in $/hour. I consider it being unhappy with the product so I don't want it.

Sitting on hold isn't really a difficult thing to do. Put phone on speaker, place on desk, go about your business until rep picks up.

I wouldn't call it having a narrow mind. Forget about it being just a game and think of it from the business end of things, this is a DISASTER and a public relations nightmare that Blizzard is trying very hard to down play. While I never had any issue or complaints about the server going down for administrative duties, I do take offense to the lack of security, and nonchalant responses to everything by Blizzard.

I know I know it's not Blizzard's fault, all our computers were compromised and it is all our fault.

I'm having a very hard time believing that as savvy as most of us are on this particular forum, that this would be the case with the number of members here that have had their accounts compromised.

For the record I changed all my passwords to every account I have and ran every spyware/malware/antivirus software installed on my computer and I came up clean. Not surprised...I will never ever buy anything made by Blizzard again and I made my point clear that this is unacceptable by getting a refund, I would suggest you guys do this as well.

Sorry, but all this authenticator spiel ...sounds like fucking a girl with aids, but wearing 2 condoms.

The hilarity of all of this is that if this was EA, they would be raked over the coals and lambasted by everyone, but since this is the high and mighty Blizzard they get a free pass by many people.
