Alright guys I'm gonna be working quite a bit this summer and I plan on getting a ZR30W or similar monitor and then some card that will run this beast @60 FPS for games like BF3 Crysis 2 and Metro 2033

While I will likely only play Metro, BF3 and Diablo I would like to have peace of mind for the other titles like Witcher 2.
I think the hardest title to run will be Metro hands down, but the benchmark is considerably harder to run then the real game is.

Does anyone know what kind of power I will need to push these titles to the max @2560x1600? I was hoping that SLI 670s would do the trick but if not I can think bigger!
EDIT: I'm thinking about 3 screens instead.

Depends on what you consider "good enough". I have a 680 at 2560x1440 and it runs most games at max settings fine. BF3, I have to turn off MSAA and in Multiplayer, I have to turn HBAO to SSAO, which honestly, I can't tell a difference. Crysis 2 to me is unplayable with all the DX11 and Ultra.. you only get 38 avg frames and it feels a lil slow and honestly, until I get a second 680, will not be playing. [H] did a Witcher 2 benchmark and the 680 couldn't handle Ultra settings at 1600p.. had to set it to high to get smooth gameplay. All in all, if you want max settings with 60 fps at 1600p, then get either a 690, or 2 680s. I say that because of some of the problems regarding heat and fan issues, unless you go non-reference, which I heard is even worse for SLi because those cards dump heat into the case.

I think of good enough as 45+ or what feels fluent in game, I don't have an interest in the 690 because the price makes no sense to me, I can fit 3 cards in SLI if I need to so I don't see why I would pay extra to have less.

I don't mind turning down some settings depending on the title, but as an example I do enjoy advanced DOF on Metro and most people turn that off...

For BF3 and diablo, hell, a 7950 OC'd would do the trick( that was my previous card btw) but metro, the only way your going to get respectable frames is to disable DoF. Unless you go the sli route

I didn't think BF3 was all that easy to run, I hardly max it with my 6970 @1080
I plan on SLI for sure no worries there.

I am on the same boat as you, looking to max out the titles you listed at 25 x 16. From the research ive done 670 sli should do the trick, I personally am leaning towards 670 3 way sli.

I was looking at the 3rd card a well but I only saw an worthwhile increase in about two titles.
Them being Metro and Crysis 2

670 SLI is probably the best "value" solution, and has the benefit of drawing significantly less power/heat (stock and especially OC'd) compared to the 7950/7970. Also, SLI is less headaches on the config side than AMD.

Well I think that 3 way sli has been scaling pretty well with the 600 series. The gains that you get from adding a 3rd card is seen when gaming at 2560 and up or when upping the AA settings.

I'm using a stock 7950 and I am happy with it @ 1600p. But yeah it won't get anywhere near running metro at the highest settings

I played Metro last year on my ZR30w using trifire 6990+6970 and it ran great. So I would assume something like SLI 670's or CF 7950's would be required for a similar experience.

Just as a side note, I switched from my ZR30w to a 27" 1080p 120Hz monitor and for gaming, IMO the 120Hz is better than the 1600p.... still using my HP for other tasks but for gaming I find 120Hz just rocks... just throwing that in there for consideration.

Alright guys this is kinda changing the subject but what would I need to run BF3 and Crysis 2 on High (not max)

@4320x2560
Talking about 3 1440p screens in portrait.

Patience.

You need 3 GTX670 4GB cards. Oh, and a board and case that can support that.

Damn, I get slowdown in some games with 1 U2711 in some games with SLI GTX680s. Most run fine, but there's always that oddball that just drops below 60fps. They were already mentioned.

Oh and some games, looking at you Dirt 2, don't seem to like SLI for whatever the f**k reason and I have to turn it down to High or turn off SLI for the game, but then I still get a little drop to 55 and it pains me to see that. Bleh.

Announced with the GTX670's, though it may take a little while. It's a niche product considering the memory efficiency of the 600-series.

Yeah I just saw EVGA has it on their product page but I don't see it coming for a while, which is fine.

I guess I can grab a single 1440 for now and see if I like it, I really wanted to go with 16:10 but I can get 3 of these panels for the price of one 1600

Get a Sapphire HD 7970 OC. With sapphire trixx you can reach 1250 Mhz speeds. you could run any game at 1600p maxed out. except metro 2033 which you will have to play with DOF turned off. :D

You cant play witcher 2 at ultra without sli 680s (or probably 670s), and really the run it on high solution doesn't feel all that great to me in fights with a 680 with a great overclock.

Metro is the same situation or worse.

How many times will you really play through those games though compared to the popular multiplayer titles...

680 SLI is just enough to max out 1600p for Crysis 2 and BF3 (i.e. max settings, 60 FPS most of the time with some dips to 50's and 40's), and STILL CANNOT max out metro 2033 (you will get 30 fps a lot). When people say they've "maxed out" at 1600p with a single card they're talking about getting barely playable framerates (30-40ish average) with max settings.

I don't think any combination of cards exist yet to run those games on high settings at 7680x1440, without dipping to 30 FPS.

are you a sapphire rep? seems like you only recommend sapphire cards.

the sapphire dual x is one of the best cooling solutions. thats one reason and the other being there is no restriction on voltage OC. :)

I just wish they made more 16:10 screens at higher resolutions that didn't cost over 1k so I could get more than one xD
