Video Games and Porn Creating the ‘Demise of Guys’?

Porn creates unrealistic expectations about sex and video games distract men from doing tasks x, y, and z on the chores list....whatever. :rolleyes: Wanking it is a good thing. There are fewer babies around because more goo ends up on the sheets, in the curtains, or going down bathroom drains. Plus men pester women less frequently for sex if they're busy flogging the log or playing a video game until 3 AM so women can, in turn, save resources by having to bathe less frequently or even not at all. There are already a lot of people on the planet so tipping the births to deaths ratio a little in favor of deaths is a good way to keep us from figuring out if our population follows the same S curve as most other organic life.
 
I just think it's hilarious that as the video game generation gets older, women have to figure out ways to incorporate video games into their own daily lives. Like doing WoW raids with their husband, or otherwise playing the same game as him. Funny stuff

Sharing interests, quite the novelty. As video games have become more enveloping, their interest has become more universal.
 
Did anyone here actually read the articles?

No one is saying that society is not treating men as second class citizens or that men shouldn't have the same cultural standing that woman do. What Zimbardo is saying is that porn, video games, and (you can probably include) high calorie, fat/sugar rich foods are all an evolutionary novelty to us. We were never designed to encounter stunning models who took off their clothes everyday, video games that seemed on some levels very real and that activated our reward circuitry in very specific ways (the feeling of seeing that epic drop on WoW AND showing it off.....), or food that contains an insane amount of sugar/fat/calories very cheaply and readily accessible.

As a society we are facing this problem of over consumption of a hell of a lot of things. I wouldn't say porn is necessarily a bad thing, especially the light, tasteful stuff. The problem is most men cannot just stop at that. They keep needing more stimulation until before they know it they are looking at bestiality and all sorts of crazy stuff and spending more and more time on it. The same goes for food and video games.

It's hard though, because with 12 million people playing WoW it is a large society. If you do get the epic in the game, people "respect" you and it does mean something. It's impossible for your brain to tell the difference between the woman on the screen and the woman in your bed, and fatty foods, these days especially, seem the norm. So while this whole story may be true, as a society we have made these actions acceptable and even gave the credence in some ways. Men look for power and respect, and I guarantee you if WoW became a single player game no one would play it anymore. Our biology is behind our environment in many drastic ways, and that is why we are seeing the "demise" of guys.

If end result is all you are after, why not endorse war? That can change population numbers in a hurry. If you're looking for a how to guide, I advise watching some old historical movies from the 1940's, the only drawback is they're a bit hard to understand because most of them are in German.

The problem here isn't that video games are addicting or anything like that. It's that you women are upset that we'd rather play games than spend time with you. Most of you are so boring and petty. This book is just more BS from the man hating feminist movement, it's gone far beyond equal rights.

There's nothing to clear up. Rhetorical question: Why aren't young men volunteering for the human bondage of low-quality wage slavery and servitude to a woman in marriage? I won't be some woman's mangina. I view the current environment as a battleground for male sovereignty. Enough is enough, its time to extricate this leech.

i agree, good that worked out for you man. i escaped marriage by the sheer massive luck of not being able to stay faithful with a single woman, it doesnt work with me no matter what. now that im 30, i look at all my friends that married (all of them married lol) and to me they all look like old people, its like some "fuse" blown inside of them and they all turned into half dead old people. that spooks the hell out of me, they all look like some "xerox" of one another, i dont wanna be like that, im too fucking young so i decided to stay single until the end of the fucking days.. but it was mostly luck i guess, i didnt plan for this when i was young.. and oh, all of their wives think im a bad example and they shoul avoid me! it sucks! i also dont like fucking children, ugh! :D
 
oh, i forgot to add that almost half of them are already separated, second wife, children everywhere.. lives ruined from my point of view, and for what? no way bro :(

Except for the fat/suger rich foods, everything else is none sense. Even then, it's not fat but the sugar in goods that's really bad. This is probably the most addictive legal substance in the world. They put sugar in everything. By sugar I mean glucose/fructose, the stuff from corn.

Bestiality? I've fixed a lot of peoples computers but bestiality isn't something I've found yet. I have found foot porn though. Though I wouldn't know why people would get off to feet.

It's funny because every time I hear this about video games, I'm always remembering High School sports. Playing WoW is indeed a waste of time, but then what isn't?

Poker night, drugs, alcohol, religion, sports, and even watching TV. Nearly everything recreational is a waste of time. Yet video games is a problem? I'm not saying video games are evil free, but what isn't. Look at the automobile. America lives off the automobile, but obesity accidents and pollution are some things that come along with it. I personally believe that video games could be a great thing for human beings. The government sure things so. The US government sure thinks so, if they built a game like America's Army. There's no undening truth that video games can rewire a persons brain. Much like the automobile, we have to be careful with some of the evils it can bring.

BTW, I was never involved in High School sports. At least nothing beyond gym class. No back or joint problems what so ever. Never regretting it. :cool:

Same, most of my friends are married, I'm not. Their wives also don't like them in my company. It's like I'm an escaped slave bringing news of freedom in the North, can't have that around.

You know why so many marriages end in divorce today? Both parties are too selfish, its all "ME ME ME" in a relationship. Wife wants her stupid shit, Husband wants his $10K worth of electronics and computer equipment, and they refuse to compromise on it.

The whole idea of marriage is an act of service, you serve each other, either by being the main bread winner, or taking care of the kids, and home.

This country has forgotten that, and some women decided they could do it alone, and fucked up a whole generation of kids. :(

It's not even worth serious discussion, you know. People have a fairly common set of reasons for doing the things they do and, despite technological advance, none of those reasons are new ones. The basics of what it means to be human are no different now than at any other point in documented history. Worrying about it outside of your own individual relationship (or hopping on a soap box to declare your views on the Internet of all places) does nothing to change anything.

I suggest having a laugh about it these kinds of things and leaving the serious concerns for real life. Forums, after all, aren't the best places to meet people that are effective at making life decisions or making recommendations about someone else's decisions.

Now, let's get back to what this place is all about - making fun of people who buy Apple products and lamenting about how consoles have made gaming on a PC unfashionable. :p

here's a tip, fellahs, if you want to be treated like a man - act like one. make your wife/girlfriend the absolute center of your attention, it's amazing what happens when you do. unless you're married to/living with another sex/porn/vg addict - chances are, if she does know about your porn viewing habits / excessive gaming habits - they bother her. also, if after 6+ months of ignoring her she decided to become a gaming girl - it probably won't take much longer before she leaves you.

Many of these feminist women want to be "more equal" then men. Now, they expect equality and also chivalry (preferential treatment) at the same time. The old standards are OK only when it benefits them, and if you disagree you are a pig. You hear these woman say things like, "I take care of myself, I don't need a man", as they cry about being unable to find a mate. A question they never seem to answer is "Why is it OK for you not to need us, but it's not OK for us not to need you?".

Bottom line, men and women aren't equals per. I'm not saying one is more important than they other, but we aren't equals. Men and women are biologically designed to be complementary, not equal. As a man I'm not interested in my equal, I'm interested in the yin to my yang. Modern society has perverted and twisted expectations of gender roles, that is what is leading to the 'Demise of Guys'.

Yes, it is. The conditional surrender that you give to your spouse is a two-way street. It means sacrificing of yourself as you would have one do for you.

I never said anything about making them happy. I'm talking about making the sacrifice of your time and attention. There is a distinction when it comes to selflessness and surrender. Giving your sex drive or 'quality' time away to women on a computer screen or a generated world that only exists to invade your pocketbook is going to affect any relationship you have - whether it be with your family, kids, wife, or whatever you choose to call 'higher power' or lack thereof.

I understand that these problems pre-date the mass deliverance of pornography or video games, but in the past 20 years these two things have manifested themselves in forms which are more accessible than ever before. You can't deny that.

While I am not in the military and have no intention of that changing, I can attest that video games do not push you away from women than any other hobby can. My wife is hot in my opinion, and she plays games along with me.

Personally, however, I am irritated when people respond to these kinds of articles by shaking their fists, beating their chests and belittling women or being just as stupid in return. (Not talking about you, quoted guy. Just wanted to quote you because of similar woman situations).

Here's a quote that I've seen work well when it comes to these articles: "Don't argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Well, being in a relationship or being married and having children is full of sacrifices, otherwise expect that relationship to come to an end very soon. However, It's not a one sided thing, it's something everyone has to engage in. In these kinds of relationships, everyone has responsibilities and they need to be fulfilled, period. You have responsibilities to the household, to your significant other/children, and finally, responsibilities to yourself. If your relationship is revolving around simply making one person happy to a detriment to yourself, you need to re-evaluate your situation and at least open up a line of dialogue about it. The best thing you can do with a relationship, especially if you think there's a problem, is to talk about it.
 
At my age, meeting a woman that has never had kids or has been married is rare. My issue is I won't settle for a woman who has.

This illustrates the problem better than anything. Women and their sycophants are pissed that we've withdrawn. Porn and video games are a symptom. The disease is Feminism. Now their bitching that we took them at their word and withdrew to pursuits that bring us more satisfaction. Why screw with having kids, a mortgage and the neighbor's dog that craps on your lawn when your can learn Game, date an endless stream of 24 year olds, and still keep you weekends free.

I'm 37. My girlfriend is 23. She treats me well because she knows how quickly she can be replaced. In the first 6 months we dated, I spent a total of $35 and that was while seeing her once or twice a week. It's the power of Game. Roissy is a good place to start. Man up, learn it, and live the dream.

Not everyone is wired in that way. As much as I think I'd enjoy doing that, I'd put that aside for my woman any day. She'll drink beer, play video games, listen to metal, hike the forest, race a car, and produce a child with me. Any flaw I have she fixes, any flaw she has I fix. Video games and computers among other things make me happy and she doesn't dare interfere with that.
