Crucial M4 256GB or Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 240GB???

Thank you for making this! I've read countless threads on determining which one to keep. Currently, I have two brand new, sealed SSDs. One being the Crucial M4 256GB ($189.99), and the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe 240GB ($238). I have a friend that wants to buy either one, so it's a win/win for me. I just don't know which one to keep! Crucial has more memory, and would save me $50, but it supposedly has less read/write times or something like that for longevity. The Mushkin is blazing fast, and has a much better lifespan (again, supposedly) and also blows away the M4, but would cost me $50 more to keep, and offers less space..........

HELP!

HELP!

the 240GB Mushkin was $199 a few days back on newegg

The Chronos Deluxe is pretty awesome, the standard Chronos uses asynchronous flash from IMFT, the Deluxe uses 32nm Toshiba Toggle.

If the choices are the M4 or standard chronos, I'd keep the M4 is money wasn't an issue.

It was the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos, not the Deluxe that was $199. The Deluxe performs a bit better.

I would say the Crucial m4 has the edge in reliablity, but the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe has the edge in performance. Personally I decided on the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe even though it was $40 extra.

If you are into performance, then the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe is the clear choice. More so when you consider that it is MUCH cheaper than any other SSD that uses toggle NAND. That being said, you may not even notice the performance advantage unless you are benchmarking!

Any of the mentioned SSDs (Crucial m4, Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe, Samsung 830) will have a very large and very noticable advantage over a traditional harddrive. And the difference between them by comparison is really quite small.

So in the end, the best REAL value is whichever is the cheapest.

But if you are willing to spend a little extra to have a top performing SSD (measureable, but maybe not all that noticeable in normal use), then the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe deserves consideration.

Right now the crucial m4 is the better choice for you, the chronos deluxe is 16gb less and the m4 is $50 cheaper...

This. The Deluxe is faster than the M4, the standard "Enhanced Chronos" is not.

However, in real world usage, you will not be able to tell the difference between the Deluxe and the M4 (unless you are copying large files from one SSD to another).

That m4 is looking pretty sweet with the deals they have going on.

The string of $99 for 128gb M4 and $199 for 256gb m4 are definitely good deals. Apparentl this will be the "normal" price for these in the next few months. It might be a good idea to wait it out and see what the new deal prices will be.

I have several Crucial M4's and a couple of the C300 series. I've had OCZ as well. All of the ones I'm buying now are the M4's. I haven't had any issues with any of them in desktops, PC laptops or my macbooks.

The M4 is the way I would go.

M4 or bust.

Absolutely blazing random IO. WHo cares about sequential. I couldcare less about copying a file at 500MB when games take forever to load and OS is slow because of crappy random IO.

I just bought an M4 (the 512 GB model) and it's pretty amazing. No more hitching in games while things load, instant access to files/programs, and a 3-year warranty.
M4's have been on sale pretty regularly on NewEgg, Amazon, and Buy.com so you might keep an eye on 'em.
