I have a 55" HDTV i bought back in 2008. In order for audio to work fom HTPC via HDMI i have to turn on the computer with the TV on and set up in the HTPC input or i will not have any sound.
Old TV or problematic mobo?

You have to set it up on the tv every time? If so, sounds like an old tv not auto detecting input source.

That's what I am thinking because I have a newer one in the bedroom with another HTPC and I don't have that problem.

Yes, there is a handshake signal on HDMI. If you are not receiving a signal, some devices will default to another input (say component or antenna). My 2010 Samsung 3D LED does the same thing occasionally. My only saving grace is that I use a Logitech Harmony One remote and all I have to do is press the help button and it re-syncs the signals and inputs...
