Diablo III Fixes Coming Next Week

My wow password has had a uppercase letter in it for several years (and my Diablo 3 one also has an upper case letter). Are you saying it can't have an uppercase or that the password can have it, but the authentication ignores case?

Correct, the case is ignored. However, it's highly unlikely that a battle.net account would be brute forced, so I don't see the lack of case sensitivity as an issue... it's all about keyloggers and hijacks and no complex password is going to help you there.

I am enjoying the game, but I am not that far in. Act 1 still. I do not enjoy the lag that pops up sometimes. Nothing like single player lag...

Get your money back, what a broken single player experience. This is the 2nd time I haven't bought a blizzard game (1st was SC2).

FYI, two members of the gaming press, both with authenticators, have been hit by the hackers and had their items stripped

And they both had authenticators on their accounts

I heard the login info was cleaned by hackers compromising 3rd party D3 forums via SQL injection. A lot of players used the same login password combo.

the music and atmospherics in D3 are terrible. D2 has such an amazing mood the very second you fired it up. it doesn't help that the game looks 3 years old already. surely they could have done something to make the game look ridiculous.

Most of the popular d3 forums uses vbulletin, phpbb or invision. I don't believe any of them is dumb enough to store the password in plaintext or unsalted. Stealing the db of those forums for the password would be useless for another service.

Just yesterday I think, there was issues with the gold AH which causes Blizzard to disable it temporarily.

They'd better make sure their AH works properly or its going to be a one hell of a mess if the real money AH glitch out and people start losing real money.

People claiming that accounts with authenticators are being hacked please post some links to actual proof. We all keep hearing about how it's happening so much but nobody has provided any proof. It's on the user to provide proof. Especially if two members of the gaming press had it happen. You would think there would be some way they could get the message out with proof. Or are we falling into the trap of unsubstantiated rumors being news now. Check your sources people, it's only good reporting. Until proof is shown it's only rumors. There is no conspiracy going on. Blizzard has admitted security issues in the past, there is no reason to think they are covering now.

so you didn't buy the game and you know about the single player experience? same for SC2. How can you comment on a game if you don't own it. I've never had issues with sc2 in the single player. There is some lag in mutltiplayer sometimes but i've experienced lag in most online multiplayer games before, it's nothing new. Also with the new addition of being able to restart a game from a replay coming up in the next patch lagging out at tournaments won't be an issue any longer. You shouldn't really comment on the full user experience if you don't won something. you wouldn't rate a car based on driving past a dealership so stop commenting on games because they use the internet.

The game is so-so at best, not terrible, but not amazing.

Once you hit Inferno, there aren't builds anymore. It's stack 3-4 defensive skills, have 1-2 active attack skills. Everyone is pretty much reduced to the same build.

Same with items... Does it have + Resist All, + Main Stat, + Vit? If not, throw it away! Same with Gloves without attack speed...

Talk about customization they constantly yammered on about.

This is pretty much my main complaint. There were a fucking massive amount of incredible items and item mods in DII, but in DIII, it's mainly collecting your main stat, vit, and resistances... Possibly IAS on certain items as well.

That and the whole mechanic seems flawed. Yes, this sword that I never swing, makes my wizard's spells stronger. Moronic. I know they wanted all classes to benefit from all item mods, but IMHO, having class and build specific mods was THE number one fun thing about DII.

ALL I can hope for, is that the expansion will bring a whole number of better mods to the table. I want procs. I wouldn't mind auras or spells on equip, etc.

Can somebody please one reliable link of one person hacked AND had an authentication attached BEFORE the hack?

I've read plenty of folks hacked attached the authenticator afterward and that's like installing a house alarm after a break in and then complaining to the police that they didn't do their job.

If you're not doing everything if your power to make sure your accounts are safe (this includes an auth, not using a browser w/o noscript and adblock/flashblock, different and strong passes etc) I don't feel bad when your shit goes missing. I've had a WoW/bnet account for 7 (last 2 with a keyfob) years that has never been compromised. I've seen people hacked multiple times (in WoW) before they smartened up and protected themselves better.

Wait a sec, if I have to do all that to play D3 then it can eat my ass.

http://www.examiner.com/article/accounts-on-diablo-3-hacked

This reporter, after having her own account with authenticator hacked, firmly believes this is a serious security breach on Blizzard’s side, though they either do not want to admit it, or are still unaware of the problem.

It's probably something on their end, there's just too much hack reports.

I might believe it's the users fault if most of the reports were from the bnet forums where it's mostly kids and casuals. But I seen so many reports from tech center sites like [H], anandtech and others that it's hard to imagine it's the user's fault. [H] users builds their own rigs and pushes them to the limit, I doubt they don't have antivirus/antimalware running or fall for phishing mails.

And reports of the Login not being caps aware and no max Login timeout doesn't help either.

People took video of the hack in progress, hackers joined their game, stripped them of items while playing, then left

Or the fact that they actually care about making things right? You people with your conspiracies are just tools. PVP not available yet because it's not where they want it to be. Auction house has some bugs they have been fixing since release. It's a HUGE game with a HUGE playerbase. There are going to be bugs ffs.

People who apologize and make excuses for multimillion dollar corporations that greedingly take peoples preorder money by making promises they can't keep and claiming it won't be released until it's done and then still deliver an inferior broken product are the biggest tools of them all.

Wait a sec, if I have to do all that to play D3 then it can eat my ass.

It's not just D3 but any popular MMO'ish type game.

I've personally examined the MSInfo files of nearly all of the handful of WoW players who have actually been compromised through an authenticator

Way to cut out the rest of that sentence.

I've personally examined the MSInfo files of nearly all of the handful of people who have truly been compromised through an authenticator, and the sheer number of backdoor programs and other malware on their systems has been mind boggling.

Back door programs on a pc gives them full access to a players account with an authenticator? Those are some advanced viruses.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iQoOMJ9n8k Video of said people getting hacked when hacker joins their game, stripping them off all their gear then leaving

Uhhh... it's a video showing the inspection panel of another player, and that player(who is not the one at the computer) taking their gear off. It doesn't show any "hack" at all.

A bunch of people were using the dial-in authenticator, which Blizzard specifically states only works with WoW, and had their accounts grabbed the normal way. Phishing and keyloggers. This is just more trolling by people mad at Blizzard for one reason or another(not bothering to notice the game said on the box that it required being online, not being able to reliably login for the first 3 hours of launch, etc.).

Except two members of the gaming press, gaming press that have authenticators, still got hacked even with them

Blizzard says getting hacked with an authenticator should be outright 100% impossible. Yet its still happening in Diablo 3

allegedly. Still pure anecdotal about the authenticator hacks. I have seen nothing to show that its not just trojans and end-user idiocy.

All signs point to keyloggers, you just logged in and gave all the info they needed so they log in using the same credentials and gank all your shit.

This reporter, after having her own account with authenticator hacked, firmly believes this is a serious security breach on Blizzard’s side, though they either do not want to admit it, or are still unaware of the problem. Many who have had their account on Diablo 3 hacked were logged in at the time of the hack and support staff tells them there was no evidence of their account being hacked. That indicates there is an exploit in the system being taken advantage of.

Not sure what single player game people are asking for, Diablo 3 has only multiplayer states on the box it's only multiplayer (online access required), and the entire thing from the moment you sign on revolves around joining friends. There is no single player, give up and play something else if that bothers you.

I was upset about the SP online only at first too... I figure down the road, officially or unofficially, D3 will be patched for offline use. As of now I have internet and don't care...

No I will not. How about you give up? Funny I remember Diablo I and II nothing on the box there. I refuse to let go of what a cock up Blizz made of this. How does the blue penis taste?

D3 != D1 or D2 .. different games, different times, they might of had single player versions which dropped better loot then the multiplayer versions (I remember first time through D2 SP and all the legendaries that kept dropping... then I went MP and was like oh :( ).

If you care to show me where in the game it says "Singleplayer" or "Start Singleplayer" or "Start Solo Career" anything like that, then hey sure i'll agree it's singleplayer with online required.

How many times have you played a multiplayer game by yourself? How many games is that even possible? The fact that you can play by yourself suggests regardless of how much you want to stomp your feet and screen, that yeah there is a "single player" aspect to the game, and that it's not JUST multiplayer.

Also when you play a game does it have a button that says "Multiplayer" "Start Multiplayer only game" or "Start adventure with friends" if those are the only buttons that get you into the game then sure I'll agree it's a multiplayer only game and that people bitching about always on requirements are silly for bitching about it. However if there's a big button that just says "PLAY" your arguments kind of fall flat.

I don't know of any single player game where your friends can drop in on you at any time just by clicking your name on the Game Start screen thus turning your "single player" into multiplayer no matter how you started it, where you are, or if you want it or not. I wish there was a single player, truly I do since I hate having friends join my game unannounced and increasing the games difficulty, but in this case it's a multiplayer game and I have to live with it.

If anything Blizzard tried to make a hybridization between SP and MP in this game, they still allow SP, but they want it to be on their terms (their servers) it all boils down to additional money they want due to keeping everything in house (Auction House for real money if it ever comes about).

You all know you can make it so your friends can't join your game without confirmation first, right?

Learn something new everyday, thanks.

I do wonder how many of the people being "hacked" were trying one of the 23421 offline enabling fake servers... it actually seems like the perfect scam for getting passwords, and yet another reason they should have offline mode.

Always heard that was a good one... eagerly await it's PC debut.

And if they had the dial-in authenticator setup on their account, Blizzard specifically states that it only works for WoW.

BTW, if you think being a member of the "gaming press" equates to being some moral paragon of the world of gaming, you're kidding yourself.
