As an Amazon Associate, HardForum may earn from qualifying purchases.
Hmm, none of those titles stood out to me, and many are already like $5... Sub'd to see what they do anyway, Amazon has done tons of good deals on like year old games lately.

Looks like Amazon is rolling out the prices on these. Meh nothing really that good.

This is the plan I believe so far for sales. Also note they are selling "steam codes" for certain games despite not being steamworks. Some of them also as a steam version or DRM free version.

a lot cheaper than what steam has them on sale for.

Bioshock is one of those games I never got around to playing. I was going to pick up the dual pack until I read this:

Please note: This version of the game utilizes both Steam and Securom DRM to activate and play this game after purchase. We also sell a version that utilizes only Securom DRM, which requires only Securom activation but not Steam.

Total turn off.

Borderlands Game of the Year Edition for $7.49 is not bad.

Requires Steam account for game installation and activation
man when someone post about Securom DRM I freak.
I hope that its only on bioshock

the square enix deal is pretty good.. 7.49$ for 5 pretty decent games.. (well except for the kane and lynch)

Borderlands GOTY comes with all 4 DLC. 2 of the DLC have additional DRM in the form of Securom. The other DLC and Borderlands itself originally actually had no DRM not even steamworks or a cdkey check for multiplayer. Not sure the disc person had a disc check.

I bit on Divinity II. That's exactly the kind of game I like, and the reviews were surprisingly solid given I'd never heard of it.

Besides, it activates on Steam (the version I bought), so even better.

I really enjoyed Divinity 2, cool that there is a DRM free version. $6 is a great price, not sure why anyone would choose Steam DRM (which is my favorite DRM) over DRM free though.

That Square Enix Ultimate Collection is a terrific deal, I own all the games except for Kane and Lynch already though. Amazon really has been hitting the digital games now, I buy as many from Amazon as Steam at this point.

I like it being in my Steam library. I like that it tracks stats like time played etc and I know where to get it if I ever need to redownload for whatever reason, and I've never had any trouble with Steam DRM, so I see no reason to prefer the no-DRM version. In fact, maybe I've drunk the kool-aid but I see Steam as a service and not a DRM service. The DRM is just incidental to the service.

In for Combined Ops, Hitman Triple Pack, and Square Enix.. 10 games.. $29.47.

Yeah, it's funny when people use the DRM bogeyman when it comes to Steam. I know it's shocking to DRM-free fanatics that some people actually want those extra features and services that by necessity involve an internet connection. It's almost as annoying as Linux fanatics who still use "M$" or "Microshaft", and insist that people ditch W7 to use Wine to play their games.

Do you see Steam users jump into GoG threads and start thread crapping about switching to Steam when people there talk about such and such game they want a DRM-free version of?

Not to mention Steam has an offline mode that works pretty effectively for me most of the time.

I can understand why someone would still prefer a DRM free version, but Steam is definitely DRM done right, which unfortunately is a rarity.

except when it wants to turn on and auto update/patches games I set it not to patch. And the annoying "do you want to be offline?" warning.

epic quote yeah auto patching or updates gets really annoying. Reminds me of the psn telling me i need to update to play a game.

LOL seriously? Hard to believe someone doesn't like Steam doing all the work of auto-updating games . That's the whole beauty of it, and probably the biggest selling point for me when I first started using Steam and stopped buying retail discs.

I will not forget the pre-Steam days of having to individually hunt down manual patches for all your games, and having to constantly check back at a site for a fix/patch that was supposed to be released but was delayed. :shudder:

Auto patching's great in general, except when it decides to do it on bootup on a laptop etc.

I find it irritating that I cannot download a game while playing a different game with steam. It's really not much harder to log onto Amazon or GOG to check my games list than steam. Certainly not harder clicking an icon than clicking a steam game. Anyways I really like steam, can see why people prefer that, did not mean to start a debate.

stupid question time...

I already have Arma 2 on Steam, can I get just the Op Arrowhead xpac for $10, and have everything still work together so I can play Day-Z? If there is any doubt I'll just spend the extra $5 and get Combined Ops or whatever its called. I just hate to have to buy a game I already have.

Offline mode never works for me when my internet goes down and I try to switch to it, even unplugging my LAN connection has never worked. The only time it's been of use is when Steam started patching over the unofficial patch in a game and going offline prevented it.

Auto patching would be great if you could turn it off but you can't. Some patches create new problems or break old saves and mods might not be compatible with the latest patch either. I've never had any trouble finding patches on my own and I would rather have control over it myself.

The Steam Orochi DRM that's used in some newer games has caused severe stability and performance issues for some people as well so Steam's DRM(like all drm) is far from perfect. Steam isn't bad and I really like their sales but I will pay extra for a DRM free copy vs a Steam copy. I don't use the Steam overlay or cloud saves either but I can see how some people might really like those features.

On topic:
I just finished Divinity II last week and I was surprised at how solid of a game it was, nothing spectacular but very solid. The flames of Vengeance expansion that came with it was not very good(IMO), I found many parallels between FOV and DA2. Divinity II is easily worth $6 though so it's not a big deal.

is ARMA II worth buying at this point that ARMA III is on the horizon for this year?
Day Z does look pretty cool tho

I'm getting the steam version because Amazon downloads doesn't work on all of my computers. Not sure why. I bought it on amazon before for 10 bucks, after about 10 hours of downloads and redownloads, it wouldn't work. Talked to CS and tried more stuff, and none of it worked.

i didnt say autopatching should be gone just the fact that is sometimes i wanna play a steam just loves redowloading files constantly

dam Im getting an error downloading arma 2 , left the downloader all night just to wake up to an error code.

One of the DLC's require securom.. which is odd because the game doesn't and neither do the other dlc's.

I don't know what world you live in, but DRM is never right.

The real world where DRM never serves its intended purpose but to inconvenience those who actually buy the product.

Yup. Especially when you are forced to use a crack just to play the fucking game that you PAID for. lol

Drm is not the answer. At least not in its current form.
