Skyrim Modding Megathread

have to limit it somewhat to make sure people can't create a successful multiplayer mod. That would get in the way of the MMO. ;)

(btw, I have zero or less interest in a multiplayer mod anyways)

I've seen a ton of mods that had potential just fall by the wayside. Seems like a lot of the modding community just is giving up on the game. I've had it with all the bugs and problems...I'm enjoying Skyrim but I won't be buying another Elder Scrolls game that has 1000's of bugs baked in. There was a really good mod of Breezehome that had me interested but the developer stopped working on it months ago.

My mind is still processing the impact of a "Bethesda developed MMO" and what an all time glitchy and buggy monstrosity that concept is assuredly going to be.

It's a damned shame if the modders are getting discouraged with Skyrim because there's such a canvas there to work with. I don't know if Bethesda is still even trying to work on fixing the game or not and I'm sure Dawnguard is going to create even more problems.

I repeat: It's death has been overdue. I shouldn't have seen it used on this game but this needs to be the last Gamebryo based game that's ever made. Enough already.

It's just really sad. They need to be working their asses off to fix the Creation Kit so that the modding scene lives on. I haven't heard shit about it though, so they've probably moved on to making the next fallout or w/e the fuck they're going to use the 'creation' engine on next = /

They'd better not be. Honestly? It's going to be a hard as hell bluff for me to call but I'm inching towards the idea of not buying a Gamebryo based game ever again. They really need to stop using it.

As it is, their next priority is getting that MMO thing out of their system like some of the other developers have and then we can move on.

Fallout 4 is probably a good two years off give or take. Fine. The more time goes by, maybe the more likely they finally move on a NEW engine from the ground up? Or just pick better engines already in existence. Look at Batman Arkham City (Unreal Engine still right? Look how mileage they've gotten out of it. Stable. Does what you want. Lots of eye candy).

Look at Just Cause 2. I love that engine. That engine needs to be used in a lot more games.

Just get away from Gamebryo already. It's not worth it.

the way i heard it, Zenimax is handling the MMO, so the ppl who made skyrim should not be working on that project. It's going to be a themepark mmo anyway, so i doubt it will have many of the bugs which bethesda games tend to have.

If they DO use the Gamebryo engine again (for the next Fallout), it'll be because of the releases on PS3 and XBOX360.

So, I've applied the HD texture mods, but honestly things still look pretty awful. Is there a way I can see where textures are being loaded from?

How'd you apply them, and which ones?

If you just let steam apply the one from blizzard, you still have work to do! (the blizzard one improved some things, but not to a large degree).

I really liked Skyrim Realistic Overhaul, but i think Skyrim 2K or Skyrim HD is the popular choice. Also, don't forget "WATER" mod (continuation from Realistic Water Textures), and either a FXAA injector or an ENB thing, or my favorite--the more simple Realistic Lighting with Customization.

Just those alone will make your game look sexy. You can still go beyond with individual snow textures, ice textures, insect and animal textures, etc.

Unfortunately true unless some devs all of a sudden have an epiphany or something.

I installed the full ones, and wood still looks pretty unimpressive, for example. I'll post a screenshot tonight with a total list of mods. I used nexus mod manager, when installed the HD mods, I did an upgrade install.

The improved NPC clothing mod however is working.

Finally, Sky UI broke last night. In the inventory, it warned me it wasn't running. Was skyrim patched in the last day or two?

Are you looking at the right wood? If i recall correctly, there's a HD Furniture/barrel mod which combined with 2k HD textures covers most of the wood in the game. I believe there's a separate "stump" mod which really makes those stumps look like they were felled trees.

Some 4 months ago, i did have the intermittent problem of NMM not installing mods correctly. You can quickly check whether the textures mods installed correctly by just looking at the paths in your data\textures folder. It should be obvious when looking in there if something didn't install right. If there's a texture in the folder for the game to use, it uses it. Else, it uses what's built into the game.

So, have there been any good, new mods since my last update? I've been a bit busy as of late so I haven't had time to look.

Those look good but I'm looking for more complete mods. :)

Here are some I picked up along the way:
SKSE -Elys- AltF4

Project Parallax
Why did Bethesda not use parallax in Skyrim? It was one of the best features in Oblivion when it came to graphics.

I haven't decided if I like the parallax stuff or not. On one hand it looks cool at a glance; on the other it looks pretty nasty upon close inspection.

I've been messing with the Skyrim Visuals mods. While they in no way look better than ENB they do give an interesting look to the game. I've been trying to find an alternative to ENB since my unlocked 6950 chokes big time with it whether SSAO and AA are on or not.

Have you tried the new version of ENB to see if it helps solve your performance problem?

Lol sorry, i'm not as pro at finding good ones as you >_<

What method do you use to comb skyrimnexus? often, there's just too much stuff.

I spend about two minutes browsing through the Latest Files section every one or two days and then track any mods that sound promising so I can look into them later in the week/month. Otherwise it just becomes too difficult to find the good stuff.

Yeah, it helps a bit but not a lot. If fast SSAO is on it runs anywhere from 17 to 30 fps outside (Riverwood and Falkreath are pretty much stuck at 16fps, other towns are around 24fps) . Without SSAO it bumps it up about 5fps. It doesn't matter what I set AA at; anywhere from off to 8xAA gives the same results. I tried different drivers but it didn't make a difference either.

If I run without ENB I hold a steady 60fps with 8xAA + FXAA + SMAA with the 100+ mods I'm running.

I just got Skyrim...enjoying it quite a bit. I've got a few visual mods with SSAO on. I'm not seeing a lot of bugs myself. I didn't get SkyUI. It's like anything...once you get used to something it's like second nature.

thread subbed... let's see if there are some interesting mods you guys might find.

How about disabling ENB's DoF?

Are there any mods based off ENB that are not super bright? I tried kage but even on the lowest setting (DoF only), it was still way too bright. In some areas it looked really good, but it really ruined the cold feel that Skyrim is supposed to have. It went from cold and partly cloudy to very hot summer day. I wouldn't mind it if there weren't pine trees and patches of snow around me.

I haven't tried an ENB in a long time, but this has been my experience whenever i try to turn SSAO on :(

The screenshots on that page make me yearn to be in Skyrim again. People complained about the graphics when Skyrim came out, but with the mods out now I find it to be the best looking game i've ever seen. Immersion to a whole new level.

Stunning.

Looks great! I'll definitely give it a try when I get home. Thanks!

It's freaking amazing! Even the DoF works great. I remembering hating it in Oblivion, but it's been really, really improved since then.

Is it safe to use adaptive vsync instead of Skyrim's vsync or would it still produce those problems that occur when vsync is turned off? Is there a way I can easily test to see if it works correctly?

All my items now fly across my house, including myself. I do not know what is causing it nor do I know how to fix it. I thought it was because of adaptive vsync but turning that off, putting Skyrim's vsync back on, and reverting to an old save (pre-adaptive) didn't help any. All other interiors seem to be fine. :(

You're going to have to backtrack your actions.

Even with THIS game engine...and yeah, I know this is a reach...there's no reason that sort of thing should "just happen" without some cause.

Think back to the last time you saw that game working right. What was different vs now?
