Fiat Photo Bombs VW On Street View

Why am I reminded of the coup that Commodore/Amiga scored with their CD32 billboard?

The only reason I have a FB account is the same reason I had any other social networking account...a really hot girl asked if I would be her friend on it.

Now I use it to post pictures from motorcycle rides and let my extended family know what's going on :p

i misread this as fraternity group photo bomb vw. Was so confused for a while.

I'm surprised the Fiat managed to get to the VW building...and more surprised the VW building wasn't on fire after an employee tried to make some coffee.

Shitty, shitty cars all around.

They had me with the Abarth commercial.

My first car was a 1978 X1/9

and I'm 6'5"

lol

Fun fact - I never knew Fiat owned Ferrari and VW owned Lamborghini.

Porsche owns a majority share in VW.

Man, they're all just sleeping together.

That really is incredible. Do you guys think Fiat set it up, or do you think it's a funny coincidence. I don't really know myself.

Here is an article I found that a discussion of the different materials one can use to build speakers. I can NOT vouch for the factual accuracy of the information in the article or the web site.

http://stason.org/TULARC/entertainm...st-material-to-make-speaker-boxes-out-of.html

When you read the article and look at the characteristics of all the materials, MDF, from a performance/cost perspective, seems ideal. It has all the performance qualities (stiff and damped) as well as economies of scale (cheap and machinable).

Wrong thread.

I don't think VW owns Bugatti, but they are allowed to build them. So I think they basically call the shots but Bugatti still gets to feel good about being its "own company" :p

Germans are just buying up all the sports car companies :D

this linkie (I guess the filters don't like goo [93Dtu])

it's too bad google maps doesn't have its own shortened URL.

They must have struck a deal with Google to coordinate parking the car in front of VW HQ and the passing by of the Google Map camera mobile. Wonder how much that costed.

My guess is Fiat knew one of the goggle drivers, and timed it to be their when they knew he was coming though. obviously that driver got a ton of money!

The first "Volkswagen" (people's car) was commissioned by Hitler and Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, hence the connection. And you thought all he did was start wars and kill Jews and gypsies. ;)

From what I understand, VW own the rights to the name "Bugatti automobiles", VW created Bugatti as it stands today, VW opened the factory, employed the people, assigned some of it's engineers, etc.

It's not like Bugatti was already around and running and then VW bought it, VW recreated it from what was basically nothing. Bugatti as its "own company" which manufactured cars hasn't existed for a very long time.

I quite agree, but Im surprised the french had the balls to do that to the germans. Last time they got thier country invaded.

This supposed to be a big deal, or am I simply over-thinking this? My who-gives-a-shit meter is pegging out LOL.

Someone correct me if (when) I'm wrong, but didn't Ford used to own Jaguar, Volvo and a large part of Mazda (which I still think they own).

the Volkswagen Audi Gruppe revived the Bugatti brand as an engineering exercise. Former CEO of VAG Ferdinand Piech boasted that it would be produce 1000hp and achieve speeds over 250mph before any design had been done. VAG also owns Lambo and Bentley along with SEAT and Skoda, and recently acquired Ducati.

Also, anyone slagging FIAT hasn't driven one in the last 10 years. in case you missed it, FIAT kept GM from bankruptcy with an injection of cash, they also own Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo.

Keeping GM alive does not impress me in the least. And buying other makes means little. If I had billions of dollars I could buy all sorts of stuff, it would not mean I was good at manufacturing anything in particular.

where does it say Fiat was intenionally doing this. It looks like someone in a Fiat ust happened to be there when the street map people drove by

Notice the white car that is also there, it has ads on the side, so my guess is that they knew google would pass by there, google used to announce when and where they would be driving around (maybe still does, dunno, image date is aug2010), so they parked there in advance and waited for google to pass by, and then followed them.

See how both the red fiat and the white car with ads drive out simultanously and follow.

So a couple of friends pulling a stunt, which succeeded now 18 months later. :p

...also notice the long shadows in the pic, it's way past closing hours, he had nothing to do there, and would prolly have been told to leave if he had parked there while they had open.

tripplepost FTW

...but it's prolly a sunday as that would be the best day for google to take pics, less traffic on the streets that could ruin the view.

Correct, though the Mazda portion has been greatly reduced over the years.
Also, Astron Martin use to be under Ford for awhile until about five years ago, one reason many newer Ford designs draw from Aston Martin front end.

if you had a billions of dollars to invest as opposed billions of dollars in debt, I think that would be a clear indication of success regardless of whether it impresses some random on a technology forum or not.
