Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

^ This.Sustained fire, controlled bursts, single shot, doesn't matter. Even when firiing first by a substantial margin, I still get popped by returned aimed fire. Yet, if someone sneezes in my general direction I loose the ability to have any accuracy at all.

I assume it is because I have not figured out how to defeat suppression, aim while being suppressed or whatever it is that the other player is doing. I just dont understand the metrics involved so am forced to accept that I will die, even when firing first.

Yo Joe! Knowing is half the battle... er something.

This lead to my next finding, as I turned on the hack when I suspected someone of hacking. There are many, many more people using some feature or form of this hack(or a similar one) on almost every server than I thought possible.
What I mean by that Is I found that on nearly every 64 man server, during the course of a two round span, it's almost a certainty that someone is hacking - and most times more.
Here's how I was able to know (not surmise) that people were hacking.
The hack can be set so that when you aim near someone (whether you have line of sight or not), it will show you how close they are aiming to you - in a percentage.
100% means that they are aiming at you, perfectly. Running around, watching people, I could instantly see some issues.
As you would imagine, holding a 100% aim on a moving target is nearly impossible. But I found people, time and again, who, once they 'took notice' of me - Could hold that 100% as long as they wanted.
In other words, they were seeing me (in many cases across the map from spawn, through buildings and the like) as soon as I spawned - and they had me dialed in, even as I ran, and changed directions.
They were using their own hack to hold an aim on my head, as they got into range/line of sight.

Possible explanation. Also worth noting is the fact that the massive spread factor a suppressed player experiences is random, and you're only noticing when you suppress someone and they pull off a flukey shot because of the improbability of it, and that when you successfully suppress and kill someone who doesn't pull it off, that you simply don't think anything of it?

Interesting read. I think your text is more likely the explanation though. Combination of code, 'predictive' hit detection and the fluke factor, but it sucks that skill is being phased out of the equation. I dont think that many people are haxors, just feels like it some days.

10K, that insane. How long does a round take? Might have to try the German servers, been seeing tons of people rocking out with 200-300 pings. I use to think a low ping was the way to go, but being seeing lots that would lead me to believe otherwise.

depends on when you join. if you go all-out in a fresh round and the teams are balanced it might very well go on for a good 3 to 4 hours plus. just finished a round that was 3k / 8k when i joined and it took almost 2 hours, netting me 48k points. map looked like a wasteland at the end, as usual :D no trees or anything left.

Played on a Team Death Match server this morning that was quite the experience. Been looking for a decent way to level up my weapons and not feel lame (Metro).

I went from not understanding the Engineer weapons at all to feeling like they were an attachment of my arm. To top it off i got my second 1MvP ribbon. It was one of the HOSTILE TAKEOVER 2000 ticket servers.

I can see myself unlocking almost all my scopes / guns in <10 hours.

How bit of a problem are the hackers? I want to buy the game but if it's going to be hard to find a server without hackers it's hard to justify.

So today I was kinda annoyed.

I play almost exclusively engineer. Mostly because I feel useless when a tank is around and theres just nothing I can do about it.

I also play almost exclusively air/vehicle outdoorsy maps. No Sieng, Bazhaar, or Metro.

I rely heavily on soflams. I dont understand how other people dont know that soflams can instantly turn the tide of a game. It upsets me to no end when I'm playing and I have no lazed targets. Nevermind that theres snipers on the mountain or roof on Firestorm.

So I started unlocking the sniper class solely to get the soflam today. I unlocked it... managed to get to the first platform on the crane on Firestorm, setup my Soflam, found a safe place to camp and proceeded to laze me some targets. I figured there were just as many people with javi's running around that were as annoyed as me.

I'm in the soflam and lock on a tank................................................................ no rockets. This happens again and again....

So this time I start to count. Here I see a chopper hovering over A and capping the flag. I lock it and start counting.... 1... 2... 3...............................................10... 11... 12..............................................20....21....

OMFG someone shoot the damn thing!

I feel like unless I'm playing with people I know there is absolutely 0 team work between people. Simple common sense can easily win you a match.

Honestly, I wouldn't know unless I read about it. It may just be that a lot of hackers are more subtle and won't make it that obvious.

No in game voice, let alone squad voice, prevents this. Typing is a pain, and no one notices it.

EA failed big time in this regard.

Probably should announce that SOFLAM is up.

I did, and i also beg for them when I'm an Engineer. Just seems like sometimes you get on a team that just has its head up its ass.

Though I'm specifically relying on Snipers, the most obvious selfish players in the game.

Judging by the reddit link a few posts up the majority of hackers are subtle. After reading that thread I got a little depressed.

Something i've also noticed about recons, they don't even put out MAV's. Especially on Rush? The goals for that game mode are obvious, it should be easy to figure out where to hide an MAV.

When i was fulltime recon? MAV always out, if it got destroyed, i'd find ammo. And don't get me started on ammo.

EDIT: 50% of the time, im getting ammo from an enemies kit, lol.

I've only ever seen cheaters a handful of times in my ~180 hours and almost always on Metro anyways (crappiest map in the game).

I played support a little bit last week..its just like medics with their revive. The amount of points you get from throwing ammo everywhere, its just insane. Everyone always needs ammo, so I don't get why no one throws it out, gives you so much points.

I wonder if they could somehow pull of threatening to sue players who hack, and then just make an example out of an obvious hacker every once in a while, i can guarantee that'd get rid of 90% of them.

Yes, we should ruin people's lives because they cheat at a video game.

I tried to play again for the first time since they introduced PTW. Couldn't do it. Just the thought of people being able to buy all the weapons I enjoyed unlocking ruined it for me. Guess I could reinstall BC2 and see it I could get back into that.

Nah just do it black mail style, and send out an obviously authentic notification of impending legal action. Probably like $1,000 or something. Again it would have to be verified and done to someone who obviously hacks. Not some mass-mail sue your grandma crap. Also they would give out a one month notification before they started, so no one has an excuse. Maybe they could even do a warning system / 3 strikes thinger. IMHO hackers deserve what they would get in this situation.

Why would this ruin it for YOU? It anything it ruins it for THEM. People who do this suck at this game. The guns they get will be a slight advantage. but overall, they will still suck.

Agreed. They aren't unlocking anything that is so game changing and ridiculously powerful as to sway the balance of a game. In fact, the default weapons for most of the classes are some of the best. All the other weapons in this game aren't pay to win. If anything, they have different stats and playstyles that help everyone play their own way. The only real gamechangers to be had are the countermeasures for the vehicles.

The only thing PTW about this game are those scum that cheat. If you are so terrible that you have to pay for cheats, you should re-consider what games you are playing or switch to consoles where there isn't so much cheating.

Anyone down to play some co-op sometime? I've never played the co-op campaign. I've got a mic, not sure how that works for co-op, but here is my soldier name:

It's obvious some people don't know what P2W actually means. You have those exact same unlocks available if you level them up yourself. That's not pay-to-win. P2W would be if there were guns/attachments you could only unlock by buying them, not playing to earn them.

Of all the many valid complaints about the current state of the game, this is not one. At all.

Quoted for emphasis.

I spent almost an entire round today sitting in the CITV seat of a tank being driven by someone who happened to be using the guided shell. It was AMAZING. Between that and all the other javelin missiles I saw going off, I dare say that if it weren't for laser designation the outcome of the match would not have been in my team's favor.

This is one of the dumbest comments ever. While I put my 100+ hours in, I work a full time job, married with 4 kids...I have to mow a lawn, take out the garbage, take the kids to baseball games and gymnastics, etc, etc... I can see where people that want to enjoy the game would rather pay for the kits. 1.) it takes a lot of time to unlock them 2.) the game is no fun when you are level 1 with a sling shot and the 13 year olds all have everything unlocked cause they don't have anything to do in their life.

..and yea... BC2 has PTW too... nice, derp.

You're lucky that worked for you. Most tank drivers are dumb as bricks.
Whenever I jump in the CITV station and try to laser designate aircraft and ground vehicles.
The beeping that happens makes the tank driver think that HE is being locked on by a jav or something and they always Pop smoke and floor it in reverse. So frustrating. People need to learn the different beep tones.

Anyone else think there should be a patch for the spawn beacon. I'm sick of everyone parachuting to the tops of buildings to sit there and snipe unsuspecting victims, because they didnt expect them to be up there. Like the crane on Norshar etc. They patched the MAV and I think they should do something about the parachute glitchers, because that is not what the spawn beacon was intended for.

... but why have the parachute drop to begin with? If it's not what it was there for?

The real fix for any area they don't "want" people to be is to add an "out of combat area" trigger for those areas/rooftops. As soon as someone lands on that platform, or within that area they get flagged and get 10seconds to vacate.

I'm with Dnottis on this one. My life is busy as heck as well and I get very little "me" time. It's not a game changer to buy the packs, it just makes it so that you can enjoy different parts of the game. If you are a mediocre player to begin with, you will still be a mediocre player but you'll have different toys to play with. You still have to earn all of the upgrades so there is still work to put in even if you pay.

i've been guilty of that :D

So i hopped in an empty server to test out something yesterday.... this was in the afternoon.

Just got something in my battlelog saying I lost a round on that server 4 hours ago. Thats kinda lame.

Coming up on 200 hours in this game. I've gotten a lot better since my earlier posts in this thread but my opinion has solidified that Battlefield 3 is at best, a mediocre Battlefield game at worst, a Call of Duty clone with vehicles. There's so much about it that pisses me off, that even when I'm enjoying it (read:winning) I'm irked about something. The only reason I still play at this point is to feel like I got my $60 worth.

if you are at 200 hours and dont feel like you 'got your $60' worth I think you are a bit.......entitled

I think you mean "self-entitled", and I am admittedly very much so. If I could get my money back for this game, I would take it without hesitation.
