What gaming keyboard are you using and what are some features? I do want a new one.. preferably one with blue backlit keys. :D

You'll get a lot quicker response and have lots to sift through.

Quick tip: If you have the beans, consider going mechanical. :)

wasd all the way

my keyboard isnt backlit and doesnt even have engraving on the keys. I made certain keys a different color so i could easily navigate.

my typing has improved alot since none of the keys are marked/engraved

Indeed, My Das Keyboard Professional (no lettering or anything on the keys) has turned me into a much better typist.

If you wanna save money you could get the Corsair K90. Classy looking keyboard with blue LEDs but only the main keys and numpad are mechanical. Having non mechanical esc/pgup/F keys doesn't bother me at all, and Cherry reds make double taps quick!

I prefer mechanical and backlit. For gaming backlit is a basic necessity for gaming for me because I don't like having lights on late at night when gaming.

oh I touch type already.. All of the lights on my computer and mouse are blue led I just like the looks :p... didn't realize people used it for typing.

Ive been touch typing since I was around 14 or 15.. Im only 23 but still :p

In middle school computer classes were a requirement and they put rubber covers over the keys and made us do typing exercises. Made me an extremely good touch typer :)

Make sure your next keyboard is mechanical. Even NewEgg sells Rosewill (house brand) mechanical keyboards.

I guess I'm the poser of the bunch because I like backlit keys cause they're easier to see and they look cool. Sue me for liking cool looking stuff.

I really love my Logitech G510. The keyboard snobs look down their noses at it but I love it. Its got great software, more macros than you could ever need (bordering too many really) an LCD screen that I like to use with Core Temp to monitor or use it with FRAPS as it gives you a real time graph of your frame rates. Can't live without the volume and mute buttons either. 6KRO isn't the best available but I have yet to need to press more than 6 keys at the same time. Plus the keys are spaced out a little closer together and that works better for me because I've got big hands but stubby fingers so the closer key layout is more comfortable. I even like the feel of the keys. They're not the cool clicky ones but they have a nice smooth and snug feel. Not as nice as mechanical but nice enough that they feel good to type on.

I do agree that mechanical keyboards are more "fun" to type on but the features and play pretties along with the key layout is why I like the G510 best.

I love my razer keyboard. Had it for two years and it's never gave me any problems. I don't know how you guys can stand the mechanical keyboards. All that fucking noise would drive me crazy.

I have a G15v1 keyboard. Its not mechanical. Mechanicals are just to loud for me. I use the backlit keys because i use my computer in the dark.

I stand corrected. This thread blew up in a good way and fast. :)

I'm pretty happy with my Rosewill RK9000. Cherry MX blue. Nothing real fancy but solid and feels great. I'll be mechanical for life.

Rosewill is essentially a rebadged Filco for all intents and purposes or pretty close to it so worth looking at in the mechanical keyboard hunt.

Gaming keyboards are overrated.

Yeah I agree with this. My beloved G510 doesn't have me killing more bad guys than the $30 keyboard I had before it. It just has cooler features and looks better. Nothing wrong with that really as long as you know that going in. You're not getting better performance (aside from a few games where you could benefit from macros), you're just getting more features and cooler looks.

I also forgot to mention Roccat is good as well. It looks like they are expanding to the US market.

My Belkin n52te + G19 + Naga is a good combo, gives a lot of customization options.

The G19 may not be for everyone, but I like it a lot. I use a mechanical keyboard for work, and actually like to use something else to play.

I too like the G510. I like the backlighting, which really helps at night. I also find the LCD screen useful. I have coretemp, evga precision X, and some other apps installed. It's great for viewing you GPU memory usage, heat, and fan speed. The volume slider also works great when using headphones in game or whatever. I also use the headphone port on the keyboard rather then running the cable all the way to the back of my computer

full nkro, must have ps/2 imo!

cmstorm quickfire rapid (cherry mx reds) blows my blackwidow ultimate out of the water. Was worth the wait, and trouble in finding one with mx reds.

You've used one with the wrong switches then.

I have Logitech G19, but im not impressed at all with it. LCD screen is pretty useless. I wanted to get Corsair Vengeance K90 it looks very attractive to me.

I have original Z-boards on both of my computers and have been using them for years. But since I purchased the last one the company was absorbed into something called Steelseries, so I don't know how much they've changed since.

It's a dome membrane style keyboard which I much prefer over mechanical... being MUCH quieter with a very different tactile feel when you're flying over them. At least this one does, lacking that mushy feeling which alot of membrane keyboards have, the keys being perfectly clicky.

Has held up very well under gaming and social networking and paper writing, I bet I've put in over a million keypresses since I purchased them and while the key lettering has started to rub off they still feel as though they're new. You can swap out the keyset for special ones designed for particular games though I only ever used and was perfectly happy with the standard QWERTY one.

You only need 2 things for a gaming keyboard. Nkro and mechanical keys. All the other junk is just flavor of the month crap and pretty colors.

I've been using several for years on both my desktops. I spilt water once and destroyed one, so I found someone clearing out office supplies on Ebay and bought 3 super cheap. Good thing it was 3, because my girlfriend's started missing keystrokes (common problem). These have been rock solid.

I recently borrowed a friend's Filco with browns. I'm love the quality of mechanical keyboards, so I'll be ordering a custom WASDkeyboards.com soon as he switches to PBT later this month.

It's been so nice being back on a simple keyboards, AutoHotkey let's me utilize some media control without wasting space. I've never understood the appeal of gaming keyboards, but then again I've been using a Nostromo n50, n52, or Logitech G13 for FPS or MMOs for over a decade now.

Another vote for the G510. I'll never use anything else. I love the custom colors, I cannot live without the lcd screen now, and I actually think it feels great. The keys are a bit squishy but I've gotten very used to it.

I miss my old Saitek Eclipse 2, exceot for the stupid keys wearing off I love both the ones I owned. Have a Razer Lycosa now, about 8 months, keys are wearing off, good feel to it, but I hate not having a mute key.

Are there any backlit boards whose keys won't wear off on?

logitech g10, g15, g510, sidewinder x4, sidewinder x6 are all lazer etched keyboards

My old roommate had a mechanical keyboard. He also played a ton of Starcraft 2. It woke me up a lot through two closed doors when he spammed APM.

There's also nothing more annoying than someone on voice chat with the incredibly loud clanking of mechanical keys in the background.

^This Mechanical key should be outlaw and ban in 2012 :p

I use a Steelseries 6gV2 on my main computer. I've come to like the black keys, but they were a bit stiff at first. That said, I'd probably skip this particular board as they key lettering wears off incredibly fast and it has the stupid double height enter key which makes typing a pain if you are coming from a standard layout. I constantly end up with | instead of ?.

I upgraded from a G15 which now is hooked up to my spare computer. There is no comparison; the mechanical is just so much better. I did miss the LCD screen as I hate OSD for the rare monitoring I do, so I solved the problem by pulling my G13 out of the closet. A mechanical keyboard with a G13 is the best of both worlds.

i have the Microsoft x6, had it for 3ish years, i like it, i really got it for the back lighting, but i love the flatness to it

Overrated. I have a bunch of keyboards and the one I prefer to use is an apple keyboard. Couple it with a gamepad and it's all you need. I use the logitech G13 but I also have a Belkin N52.

Yup, my Apple Wireless Keyboard is the best keyboard I've ever used, all things considered. I don't think I would like the noisy mechanical keyboards. I combine it with a Logitech VX Revolution.

For games like racing games, I use a Xbox 360 wireless controller.
