Browser Based Wolfenstein 3D

Very nice! Already running it via DOSBox, courtesy of myabandonware.com, but this is nice when I'm bored at work. Shh, don't tell!

How are most of you not sick of this game already? Nostalgic sure but damn...been what, 20 years now? Definitely have had my fill of Wolfenstein 3D!

Probably because that was the last time any of us have played it.

That is way too cool. Thank you! I used to play this in the basement with all the lights out as a kid.

Mouse doesn't seem to do anything for me. Only works with arrow keys.

I played this when it came out... ahhhhh fond memories!!
The web browser version isn't that great imo ...
specialy since u gotta run along the walls to find secrets and zoomed 150% the type of
clipping that goes on is quite distracting to nauseating. Don't remember it being so bad on the original version or dosbox.
Also the mouse control is horrbile... i'd rather not use it at all.

2nd episode zombies are bad ass.

God, I'm glad I didn't graduate to PC gaming until 1999. This may have been king in 1992, but I can't stand trying to play it now.
The same thing happened after hearing how great System Shock was years after the fact. I fired it up on dosbox, played it for like 30 min, and deleted it with a "this sucks".

I never originally played it, so I guess I can't relate to the nostalgia.

Yeah, it's hard for me too, even though I played it back when. I remember getting Doom 2 and thinking how awesome the graphics were, lol. :p

Have the entire id Soft collection on Steam, only games I'm missing are Rage and Quake 4 .

Man I remember how long it takes to clear the later levels...

Still need to get around to playing Spear of Destiny.

Ditto here.. Picked up that package for like 33 bucks about 4 years ago.. Heck of a deal. Doom is still fun now, and of course the quake games are still amazing, especially with updated graphics. Did play quake 2 online not too long ago. The dm maps still are fun as hell!

Awesome!!
I remembered having dreams looking for the secret wall after playing this for hours :)

Quake 2 was a stable for a long time at impromptu work LAN parties; plays on anything, no installation needed and not even half a GB.

Haha, this did bring back some memories. I started on the first level, and before I knew it I was on the last floor. I remember the first time I saw that end guy with the BFG- I was about 10, and I thought he was scary.

i cant do these things anymore

its like i forgot how to write or something

If you wanted to use the cheats in the classic, you needed to launch the game in goobers mode ("C:\wolf3d\wolf3d -goobers"), on the PC that is.

I remember that. My dad had a DoS machine back then and that woulda been how you'd do it from DoS as well. though I think it was ~ instead of -.

Your dad had a denial of service machine? The bastard. :D

DOS is all capitalized. There's no adjective in it. Diskette Operating System. ;)

My bad. Been forever since I've even said or typed those three letters together! How'd we go from DOS to Windows? Disk Operating System to Windows.!? Windows? There is no window on computers. Computers do have Disks in them though, but no windows. *my case does, but that is beside the point*.

...

The "windows" are why Windows is called Windows. :p

How did he get the name Windows though? There is nothing about a computer that I woulda gotten that name from if I was trying to think of a name for an OS! I woulda named it "Processor Operating System" :p or something that would have to do with a computer.

The original name for Windows was Interface Manager. Bill Gate's marketing manager Rowland Hanson persuaded him to change the name to Windows because it was more consumer-friendly.

At the time, Apple had already released Apple Lisa and shortly afterwards, Apple Macintosh with MacOS. PC-DOS and MS-DOS geeks would refer to Apple's MacOS as WIMP - Windows, Icons, Mice and Pointers Interface.

Perhaps that's where Rowland Hanson picked up the word Windows from.

Yeah, it's likely they wanted to accentuate the GUI aspect since before that it had been command prompt stuff.
