Balloon Popping With Lasers!

Wow, that is way too awesome.. no way my 5mw green would do that.. :)

Such a gorgeous laser. I actually expected the beam to be brighter for a greenie of that power.

Never understood why people get these powerful handheld lasers, and then just use them to do pointless things like pop a balloon or use the focal point to cut duct tape in half. Calibrate it to your telescope for spotting, get a laser animation kit and put on a show, or atleast something semi-useful.

Same could be said for any hobby.

Who's gonna pay for the damage to the wall? (The left it on after the last ballon popped, must be damaging the wall, no?)

It would not damage the white wall. The wall will reflect most of the energy. The red balloons were absorbing it. If the wall were dark, that would be a hazard.

I don't get it.

who needs a 50 cal as a comparison.

a $40 pellet gun from walmart shooting all those ballons in one shot with a slow mow camera would be a cooler video.

Popping them one at a time was sort of anticlimatic.
sort like sea bass when you were expecting sharks with laser beams.

my 40W (or 40,000mW) green burns holes in 2x4's?

Don't believe that's 750mW or at least for long. WL handhelds are the most unstable pieces of crap. They are the bose of the hobby and give laserists a bad name.

Head over to laserpointerforums.net and read up on this.

A good (true) class IV lab laser putting out 1W 532 TEMoo with a 1mm, 0.4mr divergence beam will pop balloons considerably further. Heck a Coherent Compass DPSS doing 300mW out the aperture with a 20X expander will pop a balloon at 100 meters easy.

Laserscope?

That was AWESOME! Did you guys see when they balloons popped...one......by.....one....slowly. If you blinked, you would have missed one balloon popping.

Yeah in my mind I had high tech laser turned on braararararararararara done

What I saw... eh... I can walk by the balloons faster than they were being popped... not so cool. But then again how many tricks can you do on youtube to try and sell your product? Next up, we'll light 100 matches in a row!

In the end, everyone dies. Nothing is useful.

I know! The excitement and suspense of watching the nets finest Darwin Award enablement product pop balloons as fast as a toddler with a fork was stunning!

There has got to be a joke about "99 red balloons going bye" in there somewhere...

So you're saying the laser is racist right? ;) :D

Pretty much. If you painted your hand black, the laser would bite much faster. :)

I accidentally put my finger in front of my 125mW green laser for about a second. (I bumped the power button while my finger was over the aperture.) It hurt worse than any finger prick I've ever received. I've been told lasers burn under the skin, but that may be a myth. Regardless, I'm not about to put my <1W on any living thing.
