Tropico 4 is 13.59 this weekend on steam with a play all weekend for free. I bought 3 on a whim and had a blast, so I feel it's necessary to make a mention.

Steam seems to be doing 2 specials per weekend and the other is CoH. The entire franchise is 80% off.

EDIT: Portal 2 maintains the sale this weekend for 6.79 and Skyrim is 40.19 (lowest I've seen).

anyone try Tropico 4: Modern Times yet ? just not sure i want to spend money on it.

Just played about 30 minutes of the tutorial right now, seems like a fun lil strategy game, but don't think I will have time for this after Diablo drops. Also I believe PoE (Path of Exile) is free open beta this weekend also. I've put about 8 hours into it so far and it's pretty good, but still far from finished.

Tropico 4 is fun, but doesn't have many changes from 3. It's really more of an expansion pack/money grab than a new game.

This, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this. I'm a massive fan of the series, but Tropico 4 should never have been released as a new game. It should have been an expansion pack to Tropico 3 and it should have been 10 dollars at most.

$10 really? Expansion pack perhaps, but they did a hell of a lot more than than $10 worth.

So, you're saying this deal isn't hot? I'm still downloading my free copy so I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

It's still a fun game but if you've played the hell out of Tropico 3 it really doesn't feel like they've done enough to warrant it being a sequel. It feels more like an expansion pack.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere, but Tropico Trilogy pack is also on sale for $6.79. Contains:

Tropico Reloaded
Tropico 2: Pirate Cove
Tropico 3 SSE
Tropico 3: Absolute Power

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll probably just get that bundle, and wait for a Tropico 4 "complete" edition to come out later with all of the DLCs and mini-DLCs.

Smart move. That's what I'm waiting for. Tropico 4 is fun, don't get me wrong, but what they did with the pricing and claiming it was a new Tropico game was totally wrong and I do not support it, even being one of the biggest Tropico fans you will ever see. I'm whistling a tune from one of the songs from Tropico 2 as I write this ffs.

Tropico 3 was really Tropico 1 HD anyway, it was identical gameplay with most of the buildings and concepts copied verbatim. To then make Tropico 3.1 and call it Tropico 4, charge full price, and add a bunch of hugely overpriced add-nothing DLC is just insulting to people that have followed the series this far.

It looks like they added some cool stuff with Modern Times but the full price for it is what Tropico 4 should have cost in the first place.

As a long time player of Tropico 3, I don't like 4 very much. It lost its flavor and modern times is just broken once you get biofarms.

I just started Tropico 3, and boy is it giving me flashbacks to playing Caesar III as a kid. Also, I was cracking up at the descriptions of the avatar options.

I can't for the life of me figure out to knock down a few of these ugly looking shacks to make room for nicer housing though.

The shanties? Just put a building on top of them.

Hey and let's not forgot, for those who haven't played CoH series.... it's freaking awesome. $2 gets you entry and... bonus since it's an older title you can max out all options on mid-range rigs. (When the title was new it brought systems to their knees...)

Ah my bad, I meant the next step up from shack -- the "permanent" hovels. I did figure it out though ([delete] to demolish them). But damn if running this island isn't kicking my ass. Why is it so hard to be a third world country dictator without everyone getting on your back :(.

The economy is #1. Either export or tourism. Strong economy (and the benefits of a strong economy) keeps all classes happy (if you are the benevolent type), whereas play that does not keep economy up front will fail to appease all factions and classes. When in doubt, spend money on it. If you don't have money to spend on it, make more money. It seems simple but you can easily demolish just about every scenario in all the Tropico games by following this basic principle. Make sure lots of jobs are available. Pay everyone well. Don't make them work ridiculous hours. Give them plenty of things to entertain themselves.

Even if you want to play the game as a power hungry dictator you still should have a strong economy to plug chinks in your armor and to have the capital to institute all the necessary police state type measures you'll need to maintain your grip on power.

Regardless of your play style, it should always revolve around your economy.

I'd suggest for anyone just to buy the expansions too unless you're really unsure if you'll like it. The way multiplayer works in the game is expansion owners still play against non expansion players and get to use the kick ass new armies against you. Totally worth $10, $2 it is unquestionable, anyoen should buy it.

I ended up switching from playing Juan Peron to playing Fidel Castro and oddly enough, that made things much easier because he has balanced relations with the US and Soviets. I think I had barely played as Juan Peron for 20 min before the US was threatening to invade my country . But yeah, in general, focusing on making sure economy is solid seemed to do the trick for me -- more money available to fix the other issues.

I play with Eva Peron, her gambling problem isn't a big deal to me. It just cost you some money every year. One thing I still don't get in the game is why some buildings never get built by the construction workers. I often have to force them to build it (up the priority). I try to build a second construction office relatively soon too.

YES! The construction workers are the laziest sumbitches ever. I try to have only one building at high priority and send El Presidente over to the construction site to "motivate" the builders. Don't ever build multiple buildings without prioritizing one, because the builders will get confused and randomly work and nothing will ever get done.

I really shouldn't buy anymore games. I really shouldn't buy anymore games. I really shouldn't buy anymore games. Please, me, don't buy anymore games.

Is this a typo, or intentionally tongue-in-cheek (police brutality and corruption and all that)

It should say "lower crime level", because it does. Perhaps the wording is a joke since it has never been patched out? I always took it to mean "raise crime safety" which is essentially the same thing as lowering crime.

I quick build almost everything because of this.

I quick build almost everything because of this.

I also quickbuild almost everything because of lazy do-nothing workers, but lets be fair, they're more functionally broken than they are actually lazy. When workers work, it's fine. They just totally stop working utterly at random.
