NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Video Card Review @ [H]

New chart including stock. (All numbers taken from [H] reviews)

Skyrim gives some wacky results.

Will you guys also test GTX 670 version from Gigabyte (custom pcb) the one that has a 8 pin + 6 pin setup?

*waiting for EVGA 670s to arrive in Canada*

Is there any reason to think a 4GB card will someday benefit a single 30" monitor? Ever? In life? I assume not. I reckon I'd be better served by a 2GB OC'd variant?

It will if you run Skyrim with all the texture mods and some ridiculous AA like 8x SGSSAA

Yes. 2GB is relatively easy to exceed at 6048x1080 these days (even with only SMAA in Arma 2 (no MSAA)). Granted that's more pixels total, but still...

I believe it will have certain benefits, BF3 for example but can you justify to pay the extra over the 2GB to make it worth is another story.

Welp, I may opt for a 4GB. Assuming scenarios already exist to (potentially) saturate that much VRAM, regardless of how outlandish or unlikely, who's to say what a year or two will bring? The cost doesn't really bother me. I'll prob just go all out and get a 4GB SC with a backplate. Whereas I often pinch pennies and consider price/performance with all other components, I tend to have deep pockets where my GPUs are concerned. :) Peace of mind, "future proofing", platitudes, justicifactions, all that crap.

... and who's to say I won't someday get bit by the multi-monitor bug? I'm tempted.

They are already available and instock at NCIX. The Gigabyte SOC is going for the 670 GTX reference MSRP of $399 too.

It is mighty tempting to buy 2 of those, but I am going on vacation to Asia soon so I would not be here to accept the package, and I would like to see the stutter bug resolved first.

Wow, these look excellent.

I have a pair of vanilla EVGA 570s (sequential serial numbers with backplates and high flow brackets) and have been hoping to get rid of them both in favor of a single card solution.

I wonder how a single 670 compares to 570s in SLI.

Can you do any 670 OC vs. 680 OC charts? The 670 can beat the stock 680, but how does the 680 OC do against it?

Thanks, great review!

Check my previous post. I made a chart using the 680 OC review. Shouldn't vary too much with drivers.

Thanks, I see it now. I wasn't down that far in the thread yet.

So it seems the 680 OC can do 60+ FPS in BF3 and the 670 can't quite make it. Also I am running a cool 60C whereas the 670 has to run at 82C. That reinforces my 680 purchase for me.

This is what I got when I pressed the check stock button. Looks like they have plenty in their BC and ON warehouses, though that can change fast if this goes like the 680s.

Are they showing up as in stock for you? I'm seeing a 5-10 day wait.

This is an exciting release, what performance! Very very tempting at $400. Will probably go very well with Borderlands 2 :D

Amazon had them up for literally 10 minutes.. I ordered mine overnight and made the cut.. Keep checking.
Killer deal - 680 PCB, tri-fan setup, overclocking beast.. Don't know why someone would select the EVGA reference design over the Gigabyte or Asus design.

O rly?

Hmm. Makes me wonder if I should opt for a stock 680 instead of a 670 OC with all the bells and whistles and backplates ...

Wow very impressive. The only question for me is whether I buy one of these or spend the extra $100 for the 680. I really need to figure out what I'm going to do monitor wise. I doubt I will ever seriously consider doing multi-monitor gaming again, but I wouldn't mind buying a new 3D monitor or just a higher resolution one. Decisions decisions.

Wonder WHEN and WHO will be the first to insert a 1920x1080 3D benchmark in all of their reviews. It's not like 3D is available since 3 months ago only.

Really? Wth? I'm getting zeros across the board ...?

So.. Here is the dilemma.

Game at 1080P for now, not sure if I will ever upgrade to a dual monitor solution.

Asus OC 670 or Sapphire 7970OC ?

I'm really on the fence. Primarily play BF3 and will probably play Max Payne 3 and anything Valve unleashes that is an FPS..

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/04/10/sapphire_hd_7970_oc_edition_video_card_review/7

Sapphire HD 7970 OC (1280 Mhz)

BF3 2560 x 1600 Ultra 4X MSAA avg 50.7 fps avg 34

So if you are going to OC and want max performance get the Sapphire HD 7970 OC.

The Gigabyte is available and in stock for me, atm ... I just can't decide. I always buy EVGA for build quality, warranty, and customer service. But that non-ref Gigabyte for $399 is mighty hard to resist.

Wow. what a card. excellent review as always guys, thanks a lot! i originally planned to pull the trigger on a 680, but this...is just so much better value. hopefully they'll be i stock soon here. saw a few going around for 391€.

Fixed, thanks for the extra eyes. - Kyle

Sell em on eBay.. I got more for my used reference 6870 XFX than Newegg was selling it for new...

Actually I just need to sell 1 since I know someone who wanna get one from me. What I don't like about Ebay is the wait, don't know if the extra money is enough to make it worth.

Couldn't resist the non reference 670 Gigabyte.. Too much horsepower for $80 less.. Let's hope this puppy overclocks as well as some of the early reviews have claimed.

I'm with you. It's just too good for $399. Trigger pulled. This is my first Gigabyte GPU purchase ... a bit apprehensive ... but if I trust 'em with my mobo, I suppose I should give them a chance.

I hope that other manufacturers make smaller cards to take advantage of the smaller PCB.
It would be nice to be able to put one of these 670 cards in a mini-itx case like the silverstone SG05.

good luck and enjoy your purchase :)

My order for the Gigabyte (non reference) model on Amazon changed to backorder for some reason. Tempted to pull the trigger at another vendor if I can find it in stock at a reasonable price.

On eBay you have to remember the eBay + PayPal fees are awful so make sure you get enough for them to make it worthwhile.

I have always gone EVGA in the past too. But the Gigabyte in this instance does have the 680 PCB, and higher boost. I am not entirely sold on the wind force 3X design. Although it is quiet, I have a Lian Li A05B, and the case ventilation is not the best on those cases. I much prefer my video cards to vent the hot air out the back.

There is a lot of winning going on with this series of cards. I may have to make the switch for my next build.

The next question to ask yourself is this: In a year or two wouldnt you be looking to buy the latest and greatest anyway? What is the average amount of time you keep your GPU's between upgrades? When you get that answer, I think the decision will be made easier for you.

Just off my personal experience, I find their support for GPU's lacking. I had a less than pleasant experience dealing with a SuperClocked 560ti that keep crashing due to low volltage settings (stock). It took a great effort from the community for me to even find a fix. The fix for me ended up downloading MSI Afterburner to manually change the voltage settings.

Did you have to adjust your fan speed to get 60c?
