This story is rather amusing. Apparently Anonymous is all pissy over the new CoD: Black Ops 2 trailer because it shows a Guy Fawkes mask. I can't believe I am going to agree with Anonymous but they are not terrorists. Hell, at best they are vandals (and not very good ones) but not "terrorists." :rolleyes:

The Guy Fawkes mask flashes briefly on the screen, twice. While the icon first entered pop culture in the graphic novel V for Vendetta, it has since been re-appropriated by the hacktivist group Anonymous. At least one Anonymous member decided to hit back with a counter video. In it, Anonymous supposedly threatens to hack Activision, deface the company’s website, and disrupt its online servers.

And since when did Anonymous own the Guy Fawkes mask? It's comedy because every time they buy one of those things it puts more and more money into Warner Bro. Entertainment's pocket. Yeah, that'll show em'!

Ummm, what's not trademarked, patented, or copyrighted (miss the point behind the mask much?)? I'm pretty sure people have made claim to the Moon and Mars as well. The practice of exposing the illegal practices of corporations has already been deemed a terrorist act in this country. Pretty much anything activists do that negatively impacts a corporations bottom line is considered terrorism.

Don't take his bait. Note his forum name and how long he's been here. He's obviously going to support them until the cows come home, and even after.

Anonymous is nothing but a bunch of basement dwellers who does nothing but make things worse when politicians genuinely believe them to be a threat (or use them as an excuse) to make laws for tighter control of the internet. They all need to DIAF.

How the fuck are we sheeples when we're clearly against government intervention in our personal lives and corporations lobbying to create laws that benefit them and hurt us? Anonymous isn't doing jack shit but breaking the law and causing politicians to find excuse to make stricter laws. You might as well ask gun nuts to shoot people in order to voice out their concerns of politicians wanting more gun control.

It's called a subliminal message. You don't just accidentally put that there in the game. It's also pretty obvious to the government that Anonymous has a very high acceptance in the young. Why better way to reprogram them by doing it through their favorite game. Sorry CoD fans but you're prime real estate.

I'm just curious. Is Anonymous still interested in transforming Britain into a Catholic theocracy via the usage of copious amounts of gunpowder? I mean, the have the whole part of getting caught down pat at this point.

I didn't think it was associated with any group. If they choose to don Hulk masks, it doesn't mean that it's "their" thing and anyone that wears a hulk mask is now supporting their organization. If so, I say Obama masks are mine. Anyone wearing one supports the right of free beer.

Not Anonymous. They have yet to hack anything. They are just a bunch of script kiddies running around trying to DDOS the stupid websites. Last time I checked, that wasn't really called hacking.

^This. They haven't done anything particularly impressive or even meaningful. The drama and lulz are appreciated, but if they actually managed to do something that mattered it'd be nice. Protests and damages can only do so much and as others have noted the politicians are so damn clueless about technology that their only response is to increase restrictions which will do far more harm than good.

Maybe they're counting on that. Maybe they're counting on that because they think that more will join their legion as an outlet of protest due to retarded measures put into bills like SOPA/etc. Perhaps I'm giving them too much credit.

EA has some serious problems if they think people wearing Guy Fawkes masks should be portrayed as terrorists. The movie "V for Vendetta" popularized the use of the mask as a symbol of democracy and anti-dictatorship and any attempt to demonize it is just insulting and stupid; regardless of how the misguided anonymous script kiddies have handled the symbol.

I would be mad as well at being called a terrorist. Have you seen what the US does to terrorists? All they have to do is accuse you of terrorism in some form and your rights as a citizen and as a human being are removed and since you no longer hail from a country nor do you represent another country's standing army you are somehow no longer subject to the protections afforded by international law and the Geneva Convention. The US also rewrote the legal US definition of torture so technically it is allowed so long as they don't maim you. :eek:

Ah, Guy Fawkes, the first example that comes to my mind when I think of a right wing nut job.

I guess the V for Vendetta or whatever guy and the anonymous people seemed to be forgetting that Guy Fawkes wanted Britian to switch to Roman Catholocism and he failed spectacularly. What a great representation for a movement, a failure.
