New Silverstone FT02

All the parts for my new build have arrived :p

Gotta say the case was bigger than I expected. I knew it would be big but it dwarfs my old NZXT Lexa and 23" monitor. Can't wait to finish work so I can start playing with all the new kit, it's going to be a fun weekend.

Looks like the Phanteks PH-TC14PE will be a tight fit but I'm sure I saw one in an FT02 somewhere so should be ok.

Case: Silverstone SST-FT02B-W
PSU: Corsair HX 850W
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Fatal1ty Pro
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K
Graphics: EVGA Nvidia 680 GTX
Memory: Samsung Green 16GB (4x4GB)
CPU: Cooler Phanteks PH-TC14PE Red
Hard Drive: 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 Barracuda
SSD: 256GB Crucial RealSSD M4

Will post some pic's up once I've got it all assembled.

finally got the cable clamps for the backside management!

That's the way to do it.
Since my FT02, I've reused my clamps for many other builds.

Hey guys, I'm new here. Just thought I'd pass by with some pics of my new build using the Silverstone FT02. Beautiful case. If anybody is hesitating about getting one and can stretch for one then don't. I can see this bad boy lasting me a very long time, as it is hands down the best case I have ever owned. Seriously, everything about it is almost perfect, and the unique internal design makes it that much more special.

Well here are the pics. Let me know what you think!

I apologise for the poor quality.

I am awaiting the arrival of a GTX 680 to finish it off. I'm liking the look of the new ASUS Z77 Sabertooth MB in this - I think the black on black works well.

Here is the full list of my components:

Silverstone FT02B-W
Corsair AX850
Asus Z77 Sabertooth
Intel i5 3570K
Noctua NH-D14
128Gb Samsung 830 SSD
2x4Gb Samsung Green DDR3

Looking through this thread, I'm now thinking of going for the 3x180 rad custom loop in the future. Those really look great.

Got it up and running now, albeit with a load of wires hanging out the back. Everything fitted and is working (except my red case lights which were green so had to rma).

Very impresed by the cooling. Seem to have my 3770K prime stable @ 4.6ghz 1.210v and temps staying under 70C and thats with only 1 cpu fan and everything set to low.

Wait where did you get those clamps! Did you fabricate them? Im using duct tape... lol would love to sort out the rats nest behind the mobo tray!

You can usually pick them up at the hardware store. They're just little plastic clamps. Look over in the wiring / electrical section, then find some spare motherboard standoffs / screws to mount them to the back of the motherboard tray.

nice! thanks for the tip!

They are plastic clamps, widely available on electrical online stores or Ebay and used leftover motherboard screws to fasten

the sizes you see used are 3/4" and 3/8"....but I would recommend some slightly smaller than 3/4" (except in the area where the SSD mount goes - good to use the large size here for a large bundles of cables)

Also added some 10mm flexible conduit for the header cables and fan controller cables

Here's a few shots of my first build.:D

Probably not. I don't know what socket that hole was supposed to line up with, but P67/Z68 doesn't seem to work either.

That's kinda weird. So does it make it a pain to change coolers if you needed to?

No more than it ever was in any other case before people started deciding they needed that hole there. Honestly, when is the last time you changed cooling without changing motherboards or otherwise performing a major overhaul? It almost never happens. This is one of those features that's widely tauted as "necessary" and many people look for in a case, but I suspect it's very rarely used.

not to be a smart ass...but I did recently :) I bought a new mobo, cpu, fan, installed everything..then realized i wanted a new cooler which had a back plate.

Would it line up with a P8Z68V-Pro board?

even if it doesn't it will still fit - there is space between the board and back plate - makes no difference if you are installing into the case first time. Only becomes a pain when changing a CPU cooler on an existing build in the FT02 as you'll have to also pull out the mobo

if you use a corsair H80/60 - then you can still install the cooler without removing motherboard

Last few finishing touches finally arrived :)

I run the 3 bottom intake fans and the H80 pump off the NZXT Sentry Mesh fan controller for a silent rig
(the CPU fans are run off the CPU PWM header)

That's clean. I might go for one myself. Looks like the bay covers on your unit are made much better than mine. If I move my FT02 around and I accidentally put my hands on the left edge of the bay covers, they instantly get depressed into the case....

tighten up the screws that hold them in position - should fix that for you

What ODD is that? In the photo it looks like it matches the color of the blank bay cover?

Does anybody know if the ft02 will fit a 170mm tall heatsink like the archon or ts140?

I searched and saw that someone here posted pics of the archon fitting bit the picture is gone, and another person on another forum said it would touch the window

Can anyone speak to how much of a noise difference there is between the window and windowless cases? Is it noticeable?

Thanks!

Almost all noise in this kind of configuration comes out of the top of the case, not through the sides. It shouldn't make much if any difference. (I only have first hand experience with the windowed version, however)

I would agree with silent-circuit on this. I too only have expereince with the windowed version, however, the noise path is directly out the top. I had removed some of the drive covers for something and even sitting directly in front of the case noticed the noise still came from the top of the case despite 2 drive bay covers being absent.

I would say that noise difference between the two would be imperceptable, but this is not backed by any empirical evidence.

So i've had this case for about 2 weeks now and my top 120mm silverstone fan has developed a tick/knock type deal coming from the motor. Anyone else had this fan give them issues? Do you think silverstone would replace it for me? I've only had the case a couple weeks but I doubt amazon would help me with it.

I have had mine for 2 years and have not had any problems with the case/fans. Very solid. It would be worth asking, the worst they can say is 'no', right?. There are plenty of stories about manufacturers wanting to make it right, but you never know.

Some people would complain just to get a free 120mm fan regardless if they were having trouble or not. Probably depends on who you get a hold of and what kind of day they are having.

Has anyone removed the window in the side panel before on the FT02? I need to know what size tool it takes to install it because Silverstone sent me a replacement windowed side panel without the window so I'm going to have to swap over my old one.

Pretty sure it just uses a standard hex drive bolt. You can get one of those hex multi-tools for $10-15. Very good thing to have around.

how is that 120mm fan in the bays secured??
i used zip ties to secure that 120 mm fan in the bay area, just one day was on the computer and looking at my case i thought.. hmm i have all this room in there, lets throw a fan in there, and since i had a few of the stock fans from the case lying around i decided to throw it in there using black zip ties to secure it through the holes between the bay drives and hard drive bay.
