If you are running the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you can now download and try out free beta versions of three Symantec Norton security products. Betanews.com reports that the 2013 public betas versions of Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 have been released and can be downloaded at Symantec's website.

Or just use MSE which is eternally free? :p

/thread?

Surprised there isn't free AV with clean up micro transactions or something yet...

...you poor bastagers...;)

So this is actually a win32 program. Since metro apps run in a sandbox and can't access anything outside of it?

There are better products than both of those choices, though that will be sufficient for many.

The more I hear about Windows 8 the more I agree. With them not supporting DVD or Blu-ray playback I'm sure software that does is going to go up in price. They had better get their act together. I had planned on running it. And if I end up not running it, neither will a lot of other people.

Windows 8 comes with AV built in - Windows Defender (which is MSE renamed to the older anti-malware product of the same name). So, you're protected from the get-go.

I don't trust, nor do I like, Norton products. McAfee, either. I think MSE or the other free products do just fine. For better stuff, there's ESET, Kaspersky, etc...

Shhhhhh!!!!! if MSE gets to popular it will go away with anti-trust suits or virus makers target it more.

No, everyone. MSE sucks, you all shouldn't use it.

Nah, since they dont have it pre installed there won't be any anti trust issues. Although it should be included and become part of the OS.

MSE blows away Norton and is Free. Resource usage is way better on MSE, some family members have older computers and took off norton and replaced it with MCE and they say it's like they upgraded their computer. Norton will give you ok protection but has a ton of false positives and will take a lot of system resources.

Last time I checked mse was a waste of space and Norton and kapersky were the way to go. Good to see Norton is on 8!

It will be preinstalled in 8 (this is why 4.0 won't install on the preview) If you install another AV it will get out of it's way, and only be active during boot, or if the user specifically asks for it. One of them will try to complain, but Microsoft has been very accommodating throughout the process. This isn't 1999 anymore.
