Deny uTorrent upgrade, seems to be malware.

My uTorrent upgrade today contained many background processes flagged by my firewall and forced a lame toolbar.

If you get an upgrade message from uTorrent be careful.

Edit: I should say adware, and perhaps I missed the opt out screen.

Either way I am done with uTorrent when there are free, open source alternative without the lurking adware minefield.

Other than using an older version of uT (which is obviously a possibility)....
I think I'm going to give Tixati a shot.
uT has certainly gotten a little fat with the add-ons and extras since going to v3.

I went with qbittorrent . FOSS, seems just as good as uTorrent and no adware.

Tixati was the other client most mentioned, but I stumbled on qbittorrent first and was happy with it.

Yeah I uninstalled uTorrent a while back. I now just use my Synology NAS to download torrents. uTorrent has been getting bloated for a while now.

Perhaps how it slipped by me.

I was wondering how I missed adware screen. I did a reinstall, and it is pretty freaking obvious:

Next I installed an old version and waited for an upgrade. On an upgrade, instead of obvious, I got this:

Now I guess I could have missed this, it is much more stealthy. Conditioning from years of upgrades to no longer pay a lot of scrutiny to uTorrent as I trusted them.

IMO it is purposeful bit of stealth to try and sucker more people into accepting the adware. Even if it was my mistake, I am still done with these guys.

Yea...vendors doing this kinda crap get an immediate uninstall....especially the TOS can'e agreed to without the bloatware browser bar being installed. Jerks.

Any time I see *anything* asking to install that kind of crap it immediately gets uninstalled or refused. BTW, torrents are like the kiddie pool. ;)

Tixati is excellent and Tribler is also good.

I gave up on Utorrent a long time ago. It had its time but now its full of bloat that I don't want.

Nonsense. The TOS checkbox there is for the browser bar, not for UT itself.

Tixati is great, everyone should try it
