About
This is the official page of Survarium MMOFPS by Vostok Games studio.

Mission
Create games to broaden the limits of human experience, raising topical questions of our time. These are questions of science, ecology, relations of human and nature, cruelty and inventiveness of modern civilization, and, certainly, spirituality.

Company Overview
Our company appeared in March 2012 in Kiev. Ten years earlier, when at GSC Game World we started developing the renowned S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series and continued working on it until December 2011 when the studio was unexpectedly shut down and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 project – frozen. We did not reach agreement with the rights owner regarding the use of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand, that’s why we made the decision to move forward as an independent studio with a new project. That day became our starting point for Vostok Games.

Not sure if want..

*UPDATE*
Free 2 Play confirmed on official site.

They would have gotten my full support if Survarium was a proper FPS similar to STALKER. The IP thing, that I can understand.

But the jump to MMO? You've got to be kidding me.:(

sounds good to me. i'd play an MMOFPS by the guys that created STALKER.

You can click on English (or English flags) on vostokgames.com and survarium.com to read them if you don't know Russian.

GSC Game World tweeted today:

"despite no official continuation of Stalker 2. it looks like the ideas and spirit will live on in the team's new game – 'Survarium'"

So, apparently, GSC Game World and STALKER 2 is dead but the original team is working on something very similar.

lol Wow, so retarded. In before free to play and pay to win.

Survarium is a free2play MMOFPS game set in the near future.

Another dev fumbles a great series into the abyss...

I hope that someone decides to pickup the IP & be true to the core of it since GSC failed horribly.

don't really understand the whole stalker thing. seemed like they put sequels out fairly fast. I know that the game was heavily pirated in their home region but it did sell well here. A little strange that they ran out of money, I would have thought they had better success. I guess it is consoles or die.

If this is done right it will be badass!

Problem is I dont think it will be even close to being done right.

Sad day

The market has changed, stagnant retail sold RPGs are slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past. Exceptions for every rule of course, but the market has changed. F2P games bring in higher profits for most games these days so its a natural business migration, despite what a few enthusiast consumers think.

This. I would be interested in a primarily PVP post-apocalyptic world MMO. It could be pretty interesting if done right.

So if you guys were there for the development cycle all the back from DirectX 8(I was really obsessed with it.) Stalker was original structured to be a sort of small MMO. 100 person servers where everyone lived this cohesive environment. This is way back when ALife was going to be more robust with migration and reproductive patterns for the animals, seasons, etc. They wanted to build a unscripted eco-system. I remember me and my friends running around in the 30 mile build that was leaked on the nntp a couple years before the finished product being flabbergasted at how huge the whole thing was(may be a bit of nostalgia in there, my bad.).

So anyhoo. fuck it I'm gonna be cautiously optimistic these guys always had a habit of shooting for the moon. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

A-fucking-men. I love MMO's and I love STALKER. I had sort of a wish list of games I would like to see, and a STALKER-esque MMO would be awesome, especially if it's sandbox like the original. Since they don't own the name, they can still make a game similar ;)

Agreed 100%. Too many whiners in this thread :p. MMO doesn't mean a shit game. Whats wrong with a persistent universe? These guys aren't going to make a stupid theme park MMO for the ADHD crowd.

It was the publisher than went belly up. The developers were still working on the game without pay. They tried to gain legal rights to the IP but lawyers said "Nope." And thus Survarium was born.

POSTS FROM FACEBOOK PAGE:

.The reason we cannot continue with the development of Stalker 2 is we and our new investors we unable to come to an agreement with the IP rights onwer. The entire team that was working on Stalker is now working on a new project called Survarium. We are so grateful for the support over the years and despite our best efforts we have to move on from Stalker which is as hard for us as it is for you. However, we feel that our new studio and project will be something unique and fill the void left by Stalker as well as add a lot more! -Your Stalker Team-

Stalkers, while most of you are angry and upset (which we understand) please know that since December 2011 the entire Stalker team (myself included) was working without pay on Stalker 2 while new investors were scouted. That is our dedication. Sadly we could not gain legal rights to the franchise. We are still the same team working now at Vostok Games and on Survarium.

."The concept of Survarium is a next evolution step for the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we’ve been working on for the last ten years. – said Project Lead Ruslan Didenko. – Survarium will go way further forcing mankind to fight for survival not only within the closed area of Chernobyl zone, but also far beyond."

"Technology versus nature, rational versus mystical. Such a confrontation enables us to take a new look at the current happenings in our world, - said Aleksey Sytianov, Lead Game Designer of the project. – Survarium will offer players an atmospheric world of civilization crash, filled with factions and loners, stalkers and hunters surviving in a wild anomalous environment."

It looks like this game won't take place in Chernobyl (to avoid them being sued I guess) but rather the entire world has fallen into a post-apocalyptic state. I don't know about F2P as 90% of F2P anythings tend to bomb hard. I won't count my chickens yet but I do hold hope for these guys but I just don't know...

Agreed. F2P and MMO is going to kill PC gaming entirely. (Edit: if more and more developers start shifting focus to that)

I really don't agree with this at all. F2P = Huge population for a MMO. I'd rather have a bunch of people running around then a paid sub world that was barren. Most FPS players out there refuse to pay for subs as they are unaccustomed to such models having to fork out $15 a month. F2P is probably the best option for a MMO FPS.

If anything look at PlanetSide. Great game, had 133 vs 133 vs 133. Yet largely failed due to the support it received and the monthly sub. No one to shoot at = no one going to sub. SOE learned this and is now going the F2P route with PS2. I hope we actually start seeing MMOFPSs on the market now, since we have the technology do it properly finally.

So apparently Bethesda owns the STALKER IP now.

Oh shit. Not sure what to think of this. Love Bethesda. Love STALKER. But I don't want to see the next STALKER using the game engine that Skyrim and Fallout uses. That just wouldn't be right.

I played Planetside in beta, and while it was fun then, once they started stress testing it got really shitty. So for me Planetside is not a great example. I am looking forward to seeing what Planetside 2 brings, though.

I loved the game due to its huge scale. Really though thats the only thing it had going for the game in the end. There was numerous issues with the game that was never addressed. PS2 will hopefully be a game changer for this genre.

I have faith in this new world post-apocalyptic game becoming successful, as from the Vostok video posted above "we will be updating people with our ideas and we would also be open to people's ideas as to what to do next"....

Don't let me down.....

I'm always annoyed how in this day and age, a developer comes up with the idea and makes the game, yet the publisher has ownership of the IP. Kinda like the music industry actually...

Going from one of the most immersive fps shooters ever about surviving the wasteland as a loner to the least immersive genre ever... a MMO. This wont turn out well.

My feelings exactly. The STALKER series was all about a personal quest to explore and survive in a vast open world,no MMO could duplicate the immersion of these games. They were such a welcome relief from the deluge of consolized, boring linear FPS's. It's a sad comment on the state of gaming these days when titles like STALKER 2 face cancellation while mind numbing titles like Halo,Call of Duty,Crysis, ect. just keep cranking out the sequels.

So wait, who do we blame for this?

Owner of GSC is my guess, though I may be wrong.

GSC had the franchise in their own hands. But now the dev team is saying an agreement was not reachable with the owner of the IP rights. That was the puzzling thing for me. Isn't GSC the owner of the STALKER franchise?

Only reason I can think of is the owner of GSC who was said to wanted to close down GSC at the end of last year, refuses to hand over the franchise to these guys who wanted to continue with the project. So they eventually had to leave anyway, and the owner now is probably looking to sell it to other bigger company, or has already sold it if that Bethesda rumor is true

More than likely, part of the agreement for STALKER to be funded by the publisher was for GSC to give the IP rights to them. It happens sometimes.

I was so bummed when I read this yesterday, I had my hopes up stalker 2 was going to survive. I'm still going to look forward to this new IP and hope they can pull off a winner like they did with stalker. A year ago free to play would have scared me away, but after playing path of exile and seeing hawken, I'm optimistic.

I can't figure out why the hell Bethesda would want the stalker IP though. I mean, stalker and fallout are an awful lot alike (put down your flamethrower) in that they're both post apocalyptic, open world, fps. Put stalker on the gamebryo engine and well...you get the point. From what I read, I thought this had been debunked anyways.

So apparently Bethesda owns the STALKER IP now.

Or not. Last I heard,it's being denied on the "official" Facebook page. Honestly, trying to get any accurate info on all of this is like pulling teeth. As much as I want the game to get released,I'm not sure Bethesda is the best one to handle it. Sure, they have experience with open world FPS,but the Fallout games just don't compare to STALKER,the limitations of being console ports hold them back. And there's no guarantee the game would even get released with Bethesda either, look at the runaround they're giving us with Prey 2.
