Question for Logitech G700 mouse users!

Hello I recently bought and returned to the store a Logitech "G500 gaming Mouse" because even when it is a nice device and works perfectly well it emits a constant and annoying high frecuency buzzing noise as explained in previous cases HERE
and HERE. It happened to my G500 exactly like described there and it was audible all over the room even with ambient noise and the computer running.

The problem seems to be a defective inbuilt component (a ceramic capacitor) and doesnt seem to be repairable (also when asked by customers Logitech doesnt see it like a RMA cause, it looks like they just ignore the issue). Some G500 buzz less, some others more, and not every person is able to notice this high frecuency noise similar to an "electric interference", but it becomes constant and unbearable if you do.

So given that introduction, I would like to ask here in this fine forum to all the owners of the "Logitech G700" mouse if they could please put their ears near the mouse and check if this buzzing noise is present in that model or not. Specially check the laser zone where it should me more noticeable.

Now that I have returned my G500 I have been looking for a replacement and I would like to give Logitech a last chance with this G700 model, only if Im completely sure it doesnt reproduce the same noise problem of course.

Any feedback about this issue would be greatly appreciated, Ive been searching for different brands and mice models and like I said I really liked the G500 it is a solid mouse, and I would not mind paying a bit more for the G700 if it is truly free of that manufacturing defect, but I need to know beforehand with somebody who owns the G700.

Thanks for your help!

I hear nada and my hearing is pretty damn decent. I'm guessing you're referring to like a coil whine or maybe like when you turn on some CRT TV's high pitched sound?

Btw, I went from a G500 to G700, awesome mouse except for the stupidly stiff USB cable. It uses micro USB so if you decide to get it, swap the cable if you'll be using it wired a lot (I do).

Yes yes it is exactly like that, it is not even a noise or a buzz it is in fact worse like a ultra high frecuency signal radio screech. After a few hours it made my head explode.

So I have one G700 with silent feedback thats a good start! do you say you had a G500 before like me? did you ever hear that "high frecuency electric noise with it? people say it is more noticeable in some G500s than others but it is present in all of them because it is a hardware problem from factory.

Anyways thanks for the feedback it gives me hope, but I need more feedbacks please everybody who has the G700 stick it to your ears and check for any buzz or noise!

Thanks for help!

I've had one for about a month now and don't hear anything. Quiet as a mouse....Bazing!

The USB cable is too stiff and pulls down on the mouse and renders it almost unusable. If you have your mouse on a keyboard tray under the desk like I do, screw a hook used for picture hanging under the desk and snake the cable thru it. This holds the cable up and its a total non issue now.

If you liked the G500 you might like the 700 a little better as its a little more ergonomically shaped and a lot more comfortable.

ive got no buzz, but after 2 hours of use my arm aches from the g700.

Just pop open your g500 and swap the capacitor. Ceramic caps are very cheap, to the tune of $0.10

I get this too. My problem is because my desk chair reclines pretty far back and so my arms are kinda raising up to control the mouse and since the 700 weighs about 30 pounds, my wrist starts hurting after a couple hours of gaming. I still love the feel of the mouse and all the buttons so I wont return it and use it as much as I can but I keep my beloved Deathadder close by to switch to it when I need to as that thing is literally perfect for my hand.

First time I've ever heard of cap whine on a mouse... Edit: That's some highly detailed tech info on the issue, on that second link. It seems either you have to have a pretty gifted ear to notice or a large portion of the population that buys high end mice have already destroyed their hearing to some degree. :p

I have MX510 which is on the affected list and I can hear it. But it isn't anywhere near as noticeable to the extent the OP is describing.

Thanks for the feedback people I think Im gonna risk with the G700 and if it still has the buzzing noise defect then I consider even trying to replace that capacitor thingy because like I said I really liked the G500 and I see the G700 like a quality upgrade.

It is also for me the first time (after years using all kind of mice) I encounter this kind of problem, but it is real and incredibly annoying, in fact I was almost 1 hour long searching for the noise source when I started hearing it because the last place I expected it to come from was the brand new mouse...

But this is real and for the little I have investigated it affects several Logitech mice not only the G500, (some buzz more than others to the point you need to put your ear onto the mouse to hear it so I guess I was just unlucky because this is a tornado alarm), however some other models are free from this design flaw so I hope the G700 will be one of them.

Thanks again for the help people it is much appreciated.

EDIT: By the way I forgot to say I will keep this thread updated once I get my new Logitech G700 in the next days. Also thanks for the advice about the problem with the G700 wire, I had in mind buying something like the Razer Mouse Bungee from some time ago because that issue was already annoying me with other mice so I guess this is the perfect occasion to get it. I will keep you updated people.

Saw this thread yesterday and was meaning to do as you asked. I just replaced my g500 a few weeks ago for a g700.

I took my mouse to a quiet room and held it up against my ear. I do hear a slight buzzing noise and, in the best way I can describe it, the noise changes pitch a little when i move the mouse around.

I don't notice it when I'm at my desk but the area tends to be noisy.

love the g700 btw

I see thanks for the info VileSilencer, for your description it looks like the G700 could be affected with the high frecuency noise after all....

The mouse Im using now is an old "Logitech M500 Corded Laser Mouse" after I returned the G500 to the store, and this M500 definitely doesnt emit any kind of noise or whine. As described in the page I linked in first post it is not one of the affected models.

However with my returned G500 the noise was high enough to overlap any other other ambient sounds in the room, running PC included, a pity.

Im still undecided and I will keep investigating, I have always bought Logitech products with blind faith specially their keyboards, but from now on Im gonna check with a magnifying glass every single devide before purchase.

Again thanks for the help and any feedback is appreciated, the more the better.

Hello again I recently got my new Logitech G700 mouse and wanted to update the status about the high frecuency noise/whine caused by the use of a ceramic capacitor in some Logitech mice, a problem that made me return to the store my last Logitech G500.

After a couple of hours using my brand new G700 wired through its microUSB-USB connection, I can confirm it is also affected by this noise.... however in this case it is just a very tiny teeny humming almost imperceptible, absolutely not comparable at any level to the noise in my old G500 which was like a tornado alarm siren. In fact now I can not perceive the noise unless I put my ear onto the mouse and listen quietly.

Also in these days I had the chance to test another Logitech G500 mouse from a friend of mine and it was also showing this noise defect, but also in a very much lower level than my old G500, which makes me believe this problem can show worse or better in different mice of the same affected model series.

In conclusion the problem is present in my G700, but in a minimum, ambient sounds in the room overlap it completely and you need to directly put the ear near the mouse to notice something, however if the thing was worse I can say I would have risked to change that ceramic capacitor by a tantalum capacitor myself because Im very happy with this G700 mouse, I think I have finnaly found the perfect mouse (well almost perfect), this is a high quality device, I dont regret buying it and even with the noise I wouldnt have returned it.

Regards.

Sucks its still got a little whine but at least its not loud enough to bother you. It really is a great mouse. One of my all time favorites.

.

same here, need my g700 to be ~1cm from my ear to hear any noise(with low ambient noise), farther then that and I cant hear anything coming from the g700. I'd dare say that I have great hearing too and I'm usually sensible to these type of noise (hated the coil whine from any "tube" tv, that I could hear from one or 2 room away ...)

My G700 has whining but I can't hear it unless I put it right up to my ear. My left click is double clicking and I have a replacement incoming so I'll see if it happens on that one too when it gets here.

What cable did you swap it with?

Alternatively you can use an external eneloop charger. I use AA's for tons of stuff so it seemed like a good option.

yep, i found out that because of the weight this mouse is almost unusable with the wire and swapping batteries takes the same time as plugging the wire, about 10 seconds once a day.

Maybe some kind of wire bungee or something could work. Like I said above, my mouse sits next to the keyboard on a pull out keyboard tray under the desk. I took one of those hooks that you use to hang up pictures and such with and screwed it under my desk and run the wire thru that. That will take all the tension off the cable and wont pull the mouse down any. This makes it much much more usable and I even use it like that while gaming. Even if your mouse sits on top of the desk, there might be a way to take the tension off it somehow.

I've had the exact same problem on 2 of my G700s. I am now on my 3rd one.

Both of my previous G700s started developing the double click issue after 7-8 months of heavy use. I'm starting to think this is a design flaw and it has something to do with the microswitches they are using.

Guess I'll find out in another year. My mouse gets here on Tuesday but I doubt I'll be around that long.

I just had my G300 replaced for similar issues with the left click. Definitely seems like an overall problem with the microswitches they're using.

Just wanted to post and say I started getting the same double click issue with my G700 about 7 months after purchase as well. Going through the motions with Logitech to get an RMA. They asked for a digital photo with a piece of paper with your ticket number handwritten and the mouse in the photo. Seems weird unless they are going to just send me a new one and not require me to ship it back. Otherwise this seems like an unnecessary hassle. Can anyone comment?

If they do just send me a new one outright, I may try this on the old one.

if they asked for you to do that its because they gonna do exactly that.

Yeah I hear that a lot on other forums. People talk about having a problem with their Logitech mouse and Logitech just sends them a new one! One of the best companies I know of for customer service this side of Corsair. Thats pretty much why I buy so much of their stuff.

Yep, just got an update that they are sending me a new one without me needing to send the other back. Excellent support on Logitech's part, and the support replies were VERY fast.

I guess there's no reason not to attempt that hardware fix at this point, then.

I've had a G700 for some time and it doesn't many any noise at all.

I just had to post on their forum and support page because I found a spring under my mouse when I picked it up.

The people with the double clicking problems must have dropped their mouse a few times. I know this for a fact because I have broken half a dozen Logitech wireless mouses due to dropping them. They will survive a few falls before the double clicking starts to happen. When it does, I buy the latest greatest version.

Im still rolling with mine and its still not giving off any noise or one too many clicks. Still loving it.
