Sandisk Ultra 120GB $99 @ egg

These don't seem to last very long.

I was thinking bad hard drives. It seems like every other review says it died after 3-6 months. Probably about what to expect with the Sandforce 1222 drives.

Last gen controller. The Corsair Force 3 deal is much better if you can foot the bill.

In general I don't worry too much about SSD's. They are small/fast enough to do full backups on raided sata storage all the time...

I don't even necessarily mind a last gen controller as long as its reliable. I'd take a Intel G2 drive anytime.

I almost started crying after i just bought two off buy.com when they had there sale for $109. But then just noticed the ones i bought were sandisk extremes.

A15G are you happy with the extremes? lol $140 at newegg atm.

Yes best bang/buck part in my system. Glad I jumped on em when they were $109.

Though the price on these are quite decent too.

Are the extremes better than ultras?

If you lay down the numbers side by side, its a no brainer the extreme takes it.

The extremes have the newer SF-2281 controller. This Ultra has the SF-1222 controller.

I bit. My HTPC is only SATA II and has a 40GB Intel SSD. It's just not enough for my liking.

It's awesome to see SSD's under $1/GB... can't wait to see how things look in another year or two.

I bit.

Looks like a good deal, and a heck of a lot better than running a HDD.

out the loop with PC hardware....higher numbers dont mean its better...what makes the extreme better than ultra?

the Extreme's new SF-2281 controller is less troublesome on average, and the memory is a newer type which is more wear resistant.

This doesn't mean that everyone with the Ultra will have problems though. And it also doesn't mean that you won't have a problem with the Extreme, but the deck is more stacked in your favor.

Dead at amazon too now.....$137.79..I still have no SSD!!!

There are 3 good deals a week if you keep looking. Personally, I wouldn't have bought one of these anyway with the SF-1222 controller. Too high of a failure rate (I had one fail on me already).

Yup, the Extreme is the version to get, especially since it's been a similar price lately. It's got a newer controller and 24nm toggle-mode NAND. =)
