Surprised no one has made a thread for this.

Just came out the past couple of days, for those that don't know it's a 9.99 DLC for Mount and Blade Warband that features 200 player online battles set in the Napoleonic era.

I didn't even know about it until an Angry Joe video popped up tonght talking about it, didn't see it advertised really nor on steam.

Here is a good video showing it off:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTnJXZ8LDG8

It even features playable musician classes (Drummers, bagpipes, etc) which is hilarious.

I didn't even know about this. I love the Mount & Blade series, so this is a buy for me.

So I assume if I have all the steam versions their website DLC will work with it? Wish it was just on Steam.

I've never played Mount and Blade... is it like Oblivion?

Yeah if you and everyone else are drunk as hell and swinging like madmen. Pretty chaotic multiplayer but fun if you stick to it and learn how to fight.

nope, far far far far far far far far far far far far far far from it.
I'd probably do a terrible job at explaining it as I don't have too much play time in it, but i'd check out some reviews of it on youtube before purchasing.

Yeah this game takes some serious dedication. If you are ok with working with others, a lot, and enjoy the medieval thing, go for it. Kiddies need not apply. Too much to know and yeah. Great game though.

Mount and Blade is a mix of a real-time strategy game with action game and RPG elements.

Single player wise you are plopped into the world and you have various kingdoms to join (or not join, your choice). You slowly build up your own army, via capturing people, hiring mercs, using a fiefdom, all manner of way. You also coan recruit "hero" units that you can also level up like your character, with a party based system that has skills that affect ht eoverall "party/troops" (IE a faster movement skill on the world map).

You move around the world via the world map. Where you can see the various cities, as well as other armies/bandits and things that move about in the world. You can travel to cities and buy/sell/trade goods (good way to make money) as well as equipment for your hero units and yourself (even horses). You can also fight in arena matches to earn gold.

The main ":meat/gameplay" of the game are the battles. Whenever you fight someone the game switches from the world map into th ebattle maps, where you fight in real time.

The game has hands down the best implementation of mounted combat of any game. You can use lances on horseback, bows on horseback, melee weapons, firearms (for ht elater games).

Multiplayer wise it's all about the combat nad battles.

IP highly recommend the game if you have ever wanted to play a medieval era game and take part in those epic battles. The graphics aren't top notch (the game literally started from just two people) but the gameplay is what makes it so special. IT has a die hard fan base and a TON of great modders that build things for it.

I really loved Mount and Blade: Warband. It really is a great game it just doesn't have a lot of the polish it needs. Some things I didn't like in single player were after I played for a while and had taken over 2 or 3 kingdoms everyone else would just randomly declare war on me and I just spent the rest of the game defending myself. Standing at the top of a ladder and swinging at hoards of NPCs heads gets boring after a while.

Also, I didn't like the fact that it took like 60 days or whatever to build things in your villages...I would start to build something and forget about it because 3 weeks later (in real time) it would finally finish.

That being said though, it has some of the funnest combat of any game I have ever played.

All of these things are moddable. I played vanilla M&B without mods for 2 days before loading it all up the way I liked. Simple things like how long it takes to build something at your village is directly editable in the text files. Cater the game to your style! That's the best aspect of M&B SP.

I do remember getting a diplomacy mod at one point and it added a lot of good features. Does anyone have a list of "must have" mods for it...after thinking about the game I want to load it up and play it again...

Damn you Mount and Blade...

these, exactly, best pre/early gunpowder combat sim yet

So I just did a quick search and it looks like Diplomacy, TweakMB, BattleSizer, and Floris are the top rated single player mods. If anyone has any other mods work checking out let me know.

Floris is almost a must for the SP game.

This is a pretty good game that has arguably some of the best combat mechanics in recent memory, the mounted combat is awesome and you can have some pretty epic battles. That being said it definitely not for everybody, the story telling is questionable at best and you sometimes have to really micromanage your kingdom once it gets big. Mods help some of these issues.

It should be noted that the original game was developed by some guy and his wife, which is why the game has some finish and polish issues.

Holy
Shit

WHY I AM JUST NOW FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS????

OK, 8 more days and I am buying Mount and Blade, I had no fucking clue it was MP-able and had a modding community. And damn, 200 player MP? Who needs MMO's lol?

OK, lets use this thread to link goodies like wikis/mods/forums/active communities, I want to get into this big time.

FEED ME!

Holy shit, just hopped on a Napoleon DLC server and its the best mp i've played in a long time. My new goto game :D

hah had a blast earlier.

Playing on a huge 200 person map and run out of ammo while shooting at another guy (both missing) we fixed bayonets and charged at eachother, only to have at almost the same time two cavalry from each side run into us.

So is the Napoleonic expansion on sale? I hate to buy it when you just know it's going to go on sale before too long. Still, only 10 bucks and it sounds pretty awesome.

I'm sure it will go on sale sometime. It was just released yesterday, so it might be a while?

Yeah, I thought it was somehow tied to the sale Steam was running over the weekend. I'm going to go ahead and get it when I get the chance this evening.

I've always wanted to try a game like this. People have often said that they wouldn't work and would be boring (preWW2 video games), so I guess I'll see first hand.

My first time playing it will be this evening, but Mount and Musket was pretty fun. Anything large scale, ie 200+ MP, is going to have some lulz in it at the very least.

lulz I think I'm gonna buy this just because I wanna be some random bagpiper in the battlefield in the midst of 200 people :D.

BattleSizer is a must for epic battles. TweakMB is very useful for tweaking those simple edits I mentioned earlier (upgrades in a village taking too long? tweak it!)

I usually try to import a wide variety of item mods and consolidate it into one giant item emporium and tweak the stats to my liking.

Quick service announcement involving the recent 1.50 update for MB:Warband. If you are downloanding the game fresh from Steam or did not unchecked the auto-update option, you will not be able to install the Floris Mod pack without some gameplay errors. They are working on it.

You can do two things, go to Tale Worlds website and download the previous version (1.43) for free and dump your Steam CD key and play the game that way, or if you want to use the updated Steam version when in the character creation screen, DO NOT select a noble, it seems that the banners of all things are broken and causes a hard lock, only at that portion of the game.

That being said, I do not know if this will affect the Napoleon add on.

Played around a bit and was completely lost. LOL shooting with the musket is pretty weird.

The people who play sure are well organized. It's a bit intimidating. Still fun, though.

"I strictly tried multiplayer as my friend insisted I play with him online. I was bewildered, confused, got shot by some javelin looking stick through the eye, and completely lost my competitive attitude. Even started to whine about hackers when I realized that everyone playing were nerdier than me and I was outclassed by stick warfare.

Maybe one day I will give the single player a chance and actually grasp the concepts of the game. But for right now I am still emotionally scarred by the geeks with sticks. I will never look at pencils again in the same light.

Getting quoted Shakespeare by someone's wife as the couple dance over my dead body does that to you. "

LOL. I managed to get two kills on one round, but only because I shot a couple of guys while they were busy sword fighting. I got a horse on another round and was promptly dealt with. My most productive round was when I was a fife player. Myself and this drummer really invigorated the troops, I think.

Wow this simply sounds amazing, thanks for posting OP, don't think I would have heard about this otherwise. Am definitely going to give this a shot tomorrow, sounds like something I could get into.

I really wish I hadn't missed the Steam sale this weekend! No idea this existed. Thank you for posting.

Personally I think Warband is worth $20. I can't comment on the Napolean DLC.

Yeah, multiplayer is very competitive, but very rewarding when you get the hang of it. If you just join a game where you just spawn in a deathmatch you get a little more practice as opposed to waiting for the battle to finish. Dueling servers are great for practice too.
