[Newegg] OZC Vertex 4 128GB $153 + $20 GC

Looks like 9/10 customers have gave it 5 stars.. Hmmmmmm... I wouldn't buy one..

OCZ has used there customers as beta testers way to many times..

An OCZ SSD with an OCZ developed controller and OCZ firmware. Maybe OCZ cleaned up its quality control issues this time?

I doubt it. They had a lot of problems back when they used Indilinix controllers and as far as I know those controllers were actually solid (no firmware bugs that I can recall). Yet I had to RMA so many of them it wasn't even funny. Later SSDs weren't much better though you can argue SandForce had a hand in that.

It uses a Marvell controller, not an OCZ one (though there is some speculation OCZ had a hand in its development). Quite frankly I don't care. OCZ has been caught using lower cost NAND in the past in an attempt to reduce cost / improve profits (see 25nm switchover), shown an obsession with performance statistics at all cost, and reading OCZ's forums do not inspire a whole lot of confidence in them either. That combined with my previous experiences? Never trusting them again.

OCZ blows. Corsair, Samsung, Adata or Sandisk FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe Corsair's Performance Pro, but Adata? Anyway, the Plextor M3 is way hotter than this Vertex deal imo.

Yea, I'm not sure I'd list Adata as go-to drives. They show up cheap some times, but with SSD prices dropping more consistently to the $1/GB mark, I'm not quite as willing to recommend them for the minor savings when you look at some of the great quality drives that can be had.

In any case, ocz just burned too many people too often, and have a track record of poor support. This makes me avoid them like the plague, regardless of performance statistics. Give me crucial, intel, corsair etc. any day over them.

I have not had many ocz drives but I am aware of the issues in the past, but I don't hold those against them anymore. I have heard nothing but good things about this drive and it is probably the fastest yet.
