Crysis (via Steam) says "Please buy a new copy"

Apparently I re-installed my gaming machine too many times? What is this bullcrap? Is there a way to fix this? So much for using my 680 with Crysis?

I had that problem, you have to talk to live chat member on ea site.

How can they do this, when they don't provided an official de-activation tool? Seems fraudulent. I wonder how much money they burn enforcing an install limit on a $19.99 game. Now I lost the activation on my old machine trying to de-auth, and still can't get it to work on the new machine, FML!

Yeah its pretty shit. Just email them and say you have a legitimate copy and have run out of installs and need them replenished. A friend had to do this with Crysis Warhead recently and got back his activations no worries, no need to buy another copy. I had to do it with Wings of Prey which has an extremely annoying install limit and they gave me back my activations quite promptly, though that wasn't through EA.

Deactivation tools are bullshit, like I'm gonna remember which games do and don't have activation limits whenever I install new hardware or have a problem and have to reinstall windows. Activations get eaten surprisingly quickly at times. I think most companies that use activation limits realise this and are happy enough to replenish activations when you run out.

Like anyone is going to buy ANOTHER copy after getting burned the first time! I sent them email, I guess I just wait now. I don't think a person can actually even buy two copies of the same game for the same account on Steam, haha.

It's a grand scheme to get more people to become aware

... aware of places where one can download fixed .exe

Shooting themselves in the foot...

Too funny. Reminds me of having to call Microsoft dozens of times because I kept re-installing Windows XP.
On the plus side - the GTX680 should allow you to completely max out the first Crysis and never drop below 60fps. I came from a 570 and it certainly couldn't do that.

The deactivation done by uninstalling. Of course, no one uninstalls shit before reformatting making it useless. Just some terrible and pointless DRM.

Go to EA live chat. When I reinstalled my OS with my new Sabertooth mobo, Dead Space said I needed to buy a new copy when I tried to install it again. 10 minutes on EA's support chat and I was up and running.

I don't think Steam uninstalls/de-auths Crysis, it just deletes it? Yeah, I'm correct. There is no way to de-auth the Steam version of Crysis. However, one should be able to install Crysis on the same exact machine unlimited times. However if you change memory size or graphics card or hdd ...

BTW, they took care of Crysis and Warhead in one go pretty quickly by email.

Wait, i'm on an SSD. I've been uninstalling games as i'm done with them to make room for more. Does this mean i'm gonna run into this soon?!

Yep! Happened to me with the new Anno game. Took 2 days of email since the first response is automated and they take 24 hours between responses. They being UBISOFT.

You could, but it's easy to resolve.

What upsets me is that they don't tell you anywhere on the Steam page, or on the pop-up message, that you can actually resolve it easily. Steam page says "5 install limit" and the message says "blah blah blah please buy a new key", but the reality is "send an email and you'll be back in business soon".

I ran into this same problem while trying to test out a new computer.

Oddly enough, I could not launch the game through Steam, but could manually navigate to the install folder and launch the 64-bit version just fine. This was for Crysis Warhead.

If you're constantly installing and reinstalling games it's probably worth figuring out which have activation limits and looking for deactivation tools for them. Usually if you're installing a game and it wants to activate first, there's a good chance it has an activation limit.

That's another thing ... Steam doesn't give you the bin64/ folder ...

Crytek's way of selling more copies.......damn pitrates.......ARrrrrrrrgh.:D

And they wonder why people pirate games.

Yeah, pirates. like yourself no doubt. don't buy games. Look for any way to rationalize it. How many people pirated The Witcher 2 when they had the option to buy a DRM free copy at release? Yeah, it was a lot.

That said I see no problem with using a cracked exe with a game that I paid for.

Newsflash....

"PIRATES" BUY SHIT TOO!

Yeah I pirated Witcher 2 for about 4 hours, then I went and bought a copy. Why? After the monumental bug cluster-fuck that was The Witcher (first game) I wanted to make sure it actually worked without me having to invest 8 hours of my time to accomplish that feat.

I always think of Torrents as a try before you buy service since demos are few and far between and there is no return policy on software, if I play if for a few hours, and still want to play it, I'll buy it.. Unfortunately that phenomenon is becoming rare, most just get deleted after a 30 minute try. Quality really has gone to shit. :(

Glad to see im not the only one. I have tons of "demo" downloads for games that i never played more than half an hour (things like bulletstorm lol) but have tons of games ive purchased because they were good (like borderlands and batman AA).

What? No way. Can't be true because if so, you just destroyed all arguments from anti-piracy zealots who believe that all pirates are greedy, entitled cave-dwellers who have never bought a single piece of software in their lives.

I sold my 680 and went back to my 570, and Crysis 2 made me re-activate ...

And they wonder why people pirate games.

While Piracy is illegal and wrong (though I do wish they'd give longer demos that show the REAL game not just the 1 awesome level out of 20 levels of shit) This is a legitimate argument, just like hte "unskipable" trailers on DVD/BD... you annoy people and they look for things less annoying, they may not lose millions but they're still driving away a certain percent of their profit margin...

Offer me a decent game at a decent price, DRM Free and I (as well as a lage number of other ppl) would never even consider piracy (I own every Humble Bundle to date!)
