Achieva Shimian QH270| $400 IPS 2560x1440 Korean Monitor

It was wrapped in brown paper, however the monitor itself is basically suspended in foam about two inches from each side of the box. There are 4 layers of bubble wrapping around the monitor horizontally, so if it were to take an impact from the front or sides, it could take a beating and survive.

I've seen much worse packing, and if he didnt bubble wrap the hell out of the monitor inside of the box, I would have more of an issue, but like I said, both of my monitors were wrapped up pretty good in multiple layers and suspended in the center by thick foam pads.

taking from OCN..

Wait so he opened the box, wrapped the monitor in bubble wrap, then resealed it, then wrapped it in brown paper?

There have been a lot of comments about bigclothcraft over on OCN just wrapping the monitor box in brown paper and no additional padding. I take it yall's Davis arrived in similar packaging?

Also, FML @ LED . . .

fwiw, my monitor came in the product box, with no additional packaging or wrap protection.

Got my Davi this afternoon as well. Took less than 48 hours from when it got picked up by DHL in Korea to getting to my door. Ridiculous. I can't find any dead pixels. I can't find any screen "spots" of color or varying brightness. I have two things of minor backlight bleed...very minor. I put some pictures on photobucket http://s1163.photobucket.com/albums/q549/taelen112/Davi 27in IPS/ The pictures aren't great, they are just what I could snap off. The monitor next to it is a 24" Samsung TN panel. You can see the huge difference in "vibrance" between the displays.

Anyways, 110V rated power adapter, it gets warm, I would say its 110F.

Sorry to hear about the above bloke with the issues. that sucks. i got mine from bigclothwhatever as well. Did your boxes say LED MONITOR on them? Mine did, so I'm assuming this thing is LG's LED Panel like the rest, except with their AG layer on it. My box had a HUGE hit to it, torn open, lucky for me it was the stand end of the box.

Speaking of the stand, its very stable, this thing is great, no lean, no offset. Height adjustment would have been nice, but whatever, I don't need it actually.

Yes, box says "Davi display D279SV-VGQ2 LED MONITOR" underlined

It was for a "perfect pixel" but I would say no one looked at the bad one because its hard to miss on black.

I got mine from bigclothcraft as well, but between EBay, Paypal, and my CC company, I'm not too worried, plus I would prefer to give him an opportunity to take care of things before getting upset or jumping to any conclusions.

So what are these Davi's refresh rates? Can you get them up to 70Hz?

Great question, I haven't looked into getting it up above 60. Got any links to play with? I'm using a 680GTX and I have a spare 570 hanging around

This is the question, we're all waiting on you OBWANDO :p

ToastyX posted links, instructions and software dozens of pages back. If i stumble upon it i'll link it for you in a reply.

In the Nvidia control panel where you chose the resolution just click on "create custom resolution" and select a higher refresh rate and test.

So, set up all the jazz, and didn't get over 60. I'm not positive that I did it correctly though because it wouldn't even go to 61 and that's using the manual timing and instructions from here:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1225919/yamakasi-catleap-monitor-club

So, no gold here. I may try again at work, but for now, looks like it doesn't want to budge from 60.

On a side note, bigclothcraft messaged me promptly to get it squared away (Reship another), so i'll keep the community posted on what happens. If he takes care of things, without hassle, i'm sure people will see him as a more 'reliable' vendor.

This guy got his Davi to do 71Hz > http://www.overclock.net/t/1241684/any-reviews-for-davi-d279sv-vgq2-korean-monitor/10#post_16953468

"that guy" is me :) yeah, 71hz is fine, anything past doesn't pass nvidia's test. I tried with both my sli 260's and with sli disabled.

Thanks for the share BababooeyHTJ. Your profile worked pretty good on mine. I did though wind up sticking with the one I created with Calibrize.

my monitor had a heavy green tint out-of-the-box
but it seems to be gone after calibrating with "automatic display control"

can anyone confirm saving color information inside the monitor is actually working?

(and yes i disabled the color profile)

I got a message back from bigclothcraft asking for some pictures before he can help me out. I tried using my phone but I cant seem to capture much at all. anyone have any tips to help me out? I have a friend with a DSLR camera so im going to have him bring it over. what lighting conditions work best?

You just need a good DSLR and no flash.

alright ill try that tomorrow. thanks.

I tried overclocking my davi and the only rate that worked was 61hz. anything above and I would get no display. I was hoping for at least 65 but I guess I can't really complain about that at all.

Until someone rips open their Davi (I haven't yet, and don't have time or really want to right now), we won't know I guess. the box it comes in says clearly "LED Monitor" on it, so I'm guessing its not the CCFL LG panel. The sellers/manufacturers are just confused, because this IS the AG matte finish monitor that Dell uses (assumption), which may make it the same panel in the Dell U27xx...and since the rest are the LG panel with no AG coating...you can see where the confusion would occur on the sellers side of things.

For those trying to overclock, did you load up a custom driver for your monitor? I assume you have, but just wanted to check, as that was essential for mine to OC at all.

any documentation was included ? may be some info there

some power usage mesures can help to find it, but it is not easy to do

can you take a photo (without flash) of black screen (not turned off)

and black screen with a little texts (like film ending scores)

No documentation whatsoever, in any language, was included :(

I Will get better pictures this weekend during the night (I live in a bright condo). Right now, when I try to get things dark enough to show backlight bleed, and text things, it just doesn't work out too well, as seen in the photos i posted.

Just got both of my Davi 27s.. Did a DPT test on it, Panel #1 is 100% perfect, no pixels stuck or dead. And the color looks dramatically better than my dell 30" (which i expected).

Screen is matte, and with VS up, text is clean and crisp at 9 points, very pleased. The power brick sent was a 120 watt Welltronics adapter, and it stays lukewarm at best.

Just don't get too close to the screen looking for pixels, the damn thing will blind you.

Obwando: What dell 30" do you have, is the text readable at 8point? Does the AG coating appear to be about the same or worse in comparison to the dell? Does white look white or dingy/yellow?

I'm really interested in buying one, but the full glossy treatment may not work very well in my setup.

Thanks a bunch.

Dell 3007WFP

Quite readable at 8 point, as I work with very small fonts when coding for hours.
The AG coating looks about the same, maybe slightly better on the Davi.

Side by side comparison, the Dell looks darker and washed out in comparison to the Davi, hands down. Then if you turn the brightness up on both of them, the Davi clearly shines (and blinds) you.

If I could find a 2560x1600 IPS like the Davi for ~$600 and any of my Dell screens had died, I'd replace it with the Davi type IPS without hesitation.

I'm using the Davi right now at work next to another brand new dell 23" 1920x1080 and the Davi is considerably easier on the eyes.

For those wondering what I use (or want to see what I am seeing regarding fonts) you can get it here:
http://proggyfonts.com/index.php?menu=download

The font is "Proggy Clean Slashed Zero Bold" Truetype font. I use it between 8-10 points, occasionally at 11.

Well, my QH270-Lite arrived from dcsamsungmall....

No dead/stuck pixels, that's a plus I suppose. However, well, just look:

http://imgur.com/2oQ34

EDIT: Okay, this picture isn't entirely accurate, as I've found. The monitor's picture shifts around a bit when moving my camera. Basically, I have bleed on the top, upper left, and lower left. Is it possible the bezel is putting pressure on the panel? Is this grounds for a replacement/return?

So what's the general consensus on the monitors available through these Korean Manufactures?

Would someone pick Crossover, Yamakasi, or Shimian over the other?

Also which is more likely to have the A grade panel (or A+ vs A-?)

And last but not least, is it worth looking into 'OCing?' for gaming only?

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on the Crossover just from the looks/build with aluminum, and hopefully removing that awful silkscreen logo on the front.

OH and most importantly, how do returns work, on the ebay listings they offer free shipping but say buyer pays return shipping. How does that work with dead/stuck pixels and how much could that potential cost you?

Some degree of bleed is normal even on $1000+ monitors. Is black screen in a dark room your normal use case? Even if you spent the $100 to send it back, I doubt the replacement would be that much better. If you don't like it, you can probably sell it on Craigslist for the same price you paid for it (maybe more).

If it shifts when you move around that's known as IPS glow/shift. All IPS displays do it. And you're always going to get backlight bleed, these displays are no worse than $1,000 displays I've seen.

Honestly just use the monitor. Hunting for dead/stuck pixels will only lead to disappointment. If you like how it looks when you use it normally then you won't be disappointed. Ignorance is bliss or whatever. This is a steal for the price and the only thing that warrants a return is a damaged display or a significant number of dead/stuck pixels. (like a whole row or something).

Agreed with others, not grounds for a return or even an inquiry to the seller.

Many $700-$1000 monitors can or will have worse bleed than that.

Lowering the backlight to a comfortable level will reduce it. It could be pressure btw.

I received my Crossover monitor yesterday from Dcsamsungmall. I did a dead pixel test and can't find even one :) The stand is very stable and move left, right, up, down and tilt. The case is not aluminum, it's steel. I have light bleed on the lower corner like most ips panel. The only thing i don't like is the 3 buttons (on/off and bright/dim) are on the back of the monitor instead of the front or side.
For $418, i really have nothing to complain about. Would buy another one but my desk is not big enough for 2.

Congrats man! Those monitors are absolutely GREAT!

Who wants to buy other monitors when the koreans are totally superior on giving the most for the money?

When they offer one with scaling inputs (input lag is a non-factor for me) and proper warranty. These are the reasons I would be hesitant to jump on this deal because if I end up with one with multiple dead/stuck pixels, I can't really do anything about it.

The models with scaling inputs are quite expensive and need a VESA stand for height adjust so I might as well pay an extra $150 and pick up a model, locally, that has some good warranty. I've got a 850D and these monitors aren't exactly better than it, especially since I got a model (rock standard Catleap if you care) with a few dead pixels and a strange dimmed streak at the bottom. I'm not complaining though, you are paying $350 for it so you can't expect too much when it comes to panel lottery.

I am ok with being self insured. The monitor was so cheap that I could buy another one if something went wrong. That is how I look at it, and the same for all "warranty" issues. If you look at an individual item you want a warranty because you think oh if this breaks I am out $400. But what people forget is that if you look at everything you bought over a lifetime, then thought about how many of those items failed in warranty you will realize warranties are a waste of money. You could have bought all the items in your life many times over with the increased cost of proper support. If you already have a great monitor I dont think these are for you, but if you want to get your first decent IPS, or if you just want to fill out the kids computers with something nice, these are an amazing deal considering the competition.
