Network pics thread

it would be 100% useless unless you had what it plugs into :)

ram & cpu's might be usable, but the photo is useless.

And that photo' isn't that from Jason Nash's site ?

http://jasonnash.com/

hah, it does look very similar but no.

Sad thing is, this was a cisco freebie and the company i work for said, we have no use for it throw it in storage. Our production blade servers have something like 296GB of ram each.

@Dash, it was the DL360 G3 iirc.
I had it running on my bed while I was messing around with it, the radiator was on behind it, that couldn't have been helping. I didn't realise at the time lol.

No server yet, they haven't decommissioned it yet. Guess it'll be here next week then. :rolleyes:

Update on my POE thing, made a shorter cable to go from the splitter thing to the AP, working fine. No pics, too lazy to resize and upload atm.

//EDIT~~
OT- How do I know if PM's have sent on here? Meant to ask a while ago :s

SAS is the new server standard, it basically replaced everything (SSD's are slowly becoming more popular, but are not mass yet.)

You can get SAS or SATA SSD's, SAS and SATA are interface types, pin compatible.

i was going to ask if I get a sas raid card if my sAtA drives would be seen and able to be used on the card. this sounds like thats a yes?

You'll have to let me know how this works. We're supposed to be getting some demo units from Verizon. My plan is to move our remote dial in access to 3G/Cell based products. (EDIT: For our Cisco serial devices only)

SATA drives work on SATA and SAS controllers. SAS drives only work on SAS controllers.

my usage is going to be for sending it out to stores if they are having issues with routers so I can troubleshoot the VPN connection if its not up.

I am going to look into setting it up so that it uses the "call home" feature and connects back to one of our ASA's. I see things on the OpenGear site about integrating it into Nagios as well so I need to find out if that option is still available in Nagios XI.

The Verizon units may well be ProSoft units- they're great. We've used a few of them at an engineering client that makes remote monitoring systems for oil wells. The lab is in a container- truck it to the site, give it some power- and instant internet connectivity. We even use SonicWalls to provide tunneling capabilities, and it gives field techs the ability to connect when they visit the sites. Great technology.

I got bored earlier.
So I threw them SAS drives into the ML, that's an extra 900GB-ish space in there now!
I was tired of having the stuff sitting under my desk, so I've put it to use.
The top one is a normal 500GB sata, the other 3 are 15K 147GB SAS.
I'm in the middle of modding one of the blanking plates to fit the drive cage, it's a bit messy just sitting in there, imo.

Mike that need one of the little intel pcie ones?

It has 2 x PCI-E slots, they are in transit; should arrive tomorrow. I actually have two servers, so I ordered 2 cards. However I'm waiting on my 2nd set of rails. :(

for the curious lol

still debating whether to keep this thing or to sell it...

kind of weird how the one heatsink has alternating heatpipes and the other has two and two.

2x E5440, 16gb, 2x73GB 15k disks.

This one is a Cisco Ironport so it has a flip-down metal faceplate.

i see that its a yealink.... how are those working for you?

I only picked up two Yealink video phones, and they work pretty snazzy. The rest of the Yealink phones like the T20P's are working great so far. I only have them doing light duty at the moment. i.e. spare phone in the server rooms, etc. For $70 bucks they are a fantastic phone. The video phones are about $270~

Mike, what are you using for monitoring? I have a spare Precision t3500 and 2x 30" Monitors around here and that looks like something I would like to setup. I have used Nagios before.

Been a while since I've actually posted up anything of mine. Finally got some rack ears installed and retired the midspan hub. Sorry about the terrible lighting.
